Kapil Sharma’s Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 will not return to theatres as planned, with the makers cancelling its proposed re release scheduled for January 9. The decision comes weeks after the film’s initial theatrical outing and has brought attention back to the challenges faced during its box office run.

The comedy sequel, directed by Anukalp Goswami, originally released in cinemas on December 12. It stars Kapil Sharma along with Manjot Singh, Ayesha Khan, Tridha Choudhury, Govardhan Asrani and Vipin Sharma. Despite the familiarity of the franchise, the film struggled to attract audiences during its first run.

Industry tracking suggested that the film faced stiff competition at the box office. Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, which released on December 5, dominated screens and footfalls during the same period. As a result, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 failed to secure strong collections and was gradually pushed out of theatres.

In an attempt to give the film another chance, the makers planned a re release once competing titles slowed down. The film was scheduled to return to cinemas on Friday, January 9, with hopes of improved visibility and better show allocation across key centres.

However, the plan did not materialise. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Star Studio18, the studio partner and distributor of Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, had assured of releasing the film in 500 screens in its second run. But they were able to secure only around 200 250 screens. Also, most of the shows were at odd times. Venus, the producers of Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, were not satisfied with such a release. As a result, a decision was taken on the evening of Thursday, January 8, to not re release the film at all.”

The source added that the film was earlier withdrawn from cinemas as Dhurandhar and Avatar Fire And Ash continued to dominate screen allocation. According to the production house, the limited screens offered did not justify a fresh theatrical push.

With the promised screen count not met, the makers decided to cancel the re release. It remains unclear if the film will return to theatres at a later date or opt for a release strategy later.
