Hi guys 😊 I am dedicating this part to Jessica who used to read Partial Amnesia and who had complete faith in me for being able to do justice to it even when I thought I'd not do a very good job. When I had started this FF Jessica had said this to me (when I had called my attempt "lame":

Mitul walked over towards Dr.Modi whose expression had now turned ugly. Giving him a cold stare, he turned to Shaan and firmly pulled the papers away from his hand "You don't need these Shaan " he said folding the papers and keeping them in the pocket of his coat. Shaan looked at Mitul with an expression of mingled confusion and relief. Mitul turned and began to stride towards the ICU. Geeta matched his footsteps and walked along with him. "Dr.Geeta---- is Gehna on duty?" Shaan heard him ask before he flung open the door of the ICU and disappeared from sight.
Dr. Modi's expression remained ugly as he gathered himself and strode into his office. Sunil gave a satisfied smile. Shaan saw Natasha sitting with Khanak's mother trying to calm her down. He had only just noticed that she was there.He went up to her. "Natasha? Yay----yay sub-----tum dono wapis kaisay?----" he asked confused.
Natasha got up and faced Shaan givng him a small smile. "Mitul came back for his sister Shaan----" she said dazedly yet confidently.
Shaan shook his head as he felt himself choke. "He---he shouldn't have----" he managed with difficulty as his eyes began to water again. "I'm sorry Natasha---"
"Don't be such an idiot----"Natasha said in a croaky voice. "Khanak needed him----and---and he needs her----"she added. Shaan nodded.

"Gehna----show me the reports-----"Mitul said urgently as he busied himself with the oxygen mask and checked Khanak'spulse. "I need to get new tests done----right now!" he said loudly. Gehna bustled across to fulfill her responsibiltities. Mitul lifted Khanak's eyelids and checked her eyes with a torch. "She's been heavily sedated Geeta-----she's been given heavy sedatives I am sure of it-----" Mitul said to Geeta importantly. Then he looked at her meaningfully. "You know what to do---" he breathed and for the first time ever since he had entered the hospital he felt he heard fear in his voice. Geeta nodded confidently and moved to the side room connected to the ICU.
Ten minutes later Mitul was comparing the reports of the tests taken prior to Khanak been treated upon and the most recent ones. The analysis said what Mitul had feared ever since he had checked Khanak's pulse. "She's been given an overdose of sedatives----"he said. "The son of a bitch Modi----" he swore as he got to work with the drips and injections, not taking Gehna's help anymore.

The Khandelwal family waited with baited breath for the next 1 hour hoping that the next second Mitul would come out and announce to them cheerfully that Khanak had gained consciousness and was in perfect health. But the door of the ICU remained closed. Shaan's restlessness brought him within inches of the door, hoping to see inside through the circular glass but he felt a stab of disappointment when he saw that that was covered with a curtain too. Khanak's mother prayed silently andMadhvi had her hand on her forehead the whole time, a somber expression on her face. When Mitul finally came out Shaan grabbed his shoulders as though he had been ready to take off.
"Mitul----Khanak-----" Shaan asked fearfully. Mitul's expressionless face in the hospital always used to annoy Shaan. One of the reasons why Shaan was holding Mitul so aggressively was because he felt like shaking Mitul into giving some expression; any expression that would make him decipher how his wife was. But there was no need as Mitul finally raised his eyebrows and gave a nod.
"She's okay Shaan----" he said and saw Shaan give the biggest sigh of relief and joining his hands together and raising them as though thanking God. This was it. This is what he wanted to hear. The Khanadelwal family gave each other smiles. " She still hasn't gained consciousness----however--" he added making Shaan do a double take. "There is nothing to worry about Shaan----" Mitul said quickly seeing Shaan panick. "She was heavily sedated----I've given her an antidote-----it's working----" he said keeping his hand on Shaan's shoulder.Shaan nodded, not being aware of the feeling of warmth he got as a result of it
"When is she going to gain consciousness---Mitul beta?" Sunil asked and Shaan looked at Mitul sharply too.
"An hour----two hours-----six----I can't say at this stage uncle----"Mitul said. He paused, thinking of the best possible way to phrase what he was going to say next.. "Uncle---Bhabhi's nervous system has been through a horrible state----the knowledge of the baby----" he turned his head towards Shaan and looked at him----" ---was a terrible shock for her-----" he paused.
"Tum kya kahna chah rahay ho Mitul----" Sunil asked as Shaan looked deep into his friend's eyes, hoping against hope that he would not say what he thought hewas going to say next.
"Uncle----jub tuk bhabhi ko hosh nahi ajata kuch kah nahi saktay-----laikin aisay cases main-----kabhi kabhi----when things don't go in order----some treatements have a reverse effect----" Mitul said contiously and paused.
"Reverse effect?" Shaan breathed, just seconds away from his worst fears being confirmed.
"It means Shaan that Bhabhi may----MAY just MAY go back to square one----she MAY forget again what she had recalled----" Mitul said trying to be composed while clearly seeing the pain in his friend's eyes.
"Meaning she may forget who I am----again----" Shaan said numby staring into space now as Mitul's words slashed through his heart. "It's all my fault----all my fault----had I told her----had I not been such a coward-----" his throat burnt as he spoked
"Shaan!" Mitul said holding his shoulders. " You're not a coward-----it's just a possibility Shaan----it may not happen----but I need you to be prepared----you understand that right?" he forced Shaan to look in his eyes as he continued to shake him. "Let her gain consciousness---please----"

"Asha----Asha----itna taiz bhag rahee ho----gir jao gee" Khanak yelled after her 2 year old daughter who had squealed at the sight of her father and ran towards him. Shaan had his arms spread out as he sat hunched on the lush green grass seeing his daughter rushing excitedly to get into his lap.
"Ajao! Ajao Asha----Ajao----" Shaan said smiling broadly beckoning his daughter. Finally Asha reached Shaan and Shaan picked her up and threw her in the air as Asha laughed heartily. "Papa's girl----" Shaan said.
'Girl? Shaantanu yay girl nahi hain----it's a boy----Yay Sushant hain----Sushant" Khanak said, coming over and hugging Shaan.
Shaan looked at his daughter in his arms. It was not Asha. It was Sushant.
Shaan woke up with a start and jerked at Madhvi's touch. Harassed, he looked around. He had dozed off on the sofa of the corridor in the hospital. He had dreamt. Dreamt about his daughter and his son. His daughter Asha who was not his daughter but was his son. And Khanak had been happy. Sha had hugged him. They were a happy family, however bizarre the dream was.
"Shaan? Khanak!!" Madhvi said happily. "Khanak ko hosh agaya hain beta!!"
Shaan looked at his mother shocked. His mind was still reeling with the memories of the dream he had. "Khanak?---"
"Haan beta----Khanak ko hosh agaya hain----Mitul uss kay saath hain----he's calling you----jao beta jao! He wants you to meet her first----" Madhvi said beckoning Shaan to get up. Shaan got up distractedly still stunned. He went to the ICU in a daze and saw Khanak lying on the bed her eyes closed and Mitul standing next to her checking her pulse. He saw Shaan and signaled him to come inside.
Trembling a bit, Shaan made his way towards Khanak, remembering the last time he had done it and earned a "Yay meray pati kay kaatil hain!" from her. He gulped and looked at Mitul questioningly. "Go ahead---hold her hand----so that she knows you're here----" Mitul said smiling warmly. Mitul's expressions showed immense happiness; something that was not normal for him to display even at the happiest of time. Shaan looked at Mitul surprised. Mitul nodded in acknowledgement and smiled again. "Go on----" he said to Shaan
Shaan bent down to touch Khanak's hand but before he could reach it Khanak had opened her eyes weakly, raised her hand and held Shaan's palm instead. "Aap paas hotay ho----toh waisay hee pata chal jaata hain----choonay ki----zarroorat nahi----"Khanak said slowly and croakily. Shaan half smiled, half cried. Tears were flowing from his eyes but his face showed happiness. It was a bizarre combination yet it was so true.
Shaan glanced at Mitul after taking his eyes off Khanak's face with difficulty. He was smiling broadly. "She called me 'Bha' Shaan-----she called me 'Bha'----she remembers-----" Mitul said estatically as he made his way out of the ICU. "Gehna---make sure no visitors enter----"

"Shaantanu----"Khanak breathed. She was lying on the bed and Shaan was bent over her.
Shaan held Khanak's hands tightly as he continued to drink in Khanak's face. He bent down and kissed her nose, then her lips. Keeping his face in level with hers for the next minute he said crokily "Khanak---I'm sorry----mujhay maaf kardo Khanak----I'm sorry----"
"Nahi----Shaantanu----" Khanak breathed trying to hold Shaan's face when he freed her hands. But her hands were too weak.
"Tum nay toh apnay burthal ko dara hee diya tha-----" Shaan said miserably.
Khanak smiled. "Burthal----" she managed to whisper. "Shaantanu----humara bacha-----"
Shaan looked into Khanak's eyes. "Soh jao Khanak----tumhay neend arahee hain na----" Shaan said. He didn't want to talk about the baby as soon as Khanak had gained consciousness. What if something happened to her again.
"Shaantanu----mujhay humaray bachay kay---kay baaray main baat karni hain----tub hee main----main chane say so paoo gee----" Khanak said in broken sentences but with a finality in her tone that Shaan understood. He nodded, now holding Khanak's hands tightly again as he bent over her and readied himself to tell her their story.
" Hum November main---saheen mano main pati patni banay thay----hum dono buhat khush thay----buhat khush----Mom aur Khushboo bhabhi bhee tumhay pasand karnay lagee thee----main singer bun gaya tha----sub theek jar aha tha----" he paused. "Tum mujh say naraz hokar Dhulwadi bhee chalee gaee thee----" Shaan smiled and Khanak gave a faint smile too. "Mainay tumhay mana liya tha----Hum honey moon kay liyay bhee gayay thay-May main humnay bacha plan start kiya tha----In June you got pregnant---It was like a dream----"Shaan's eyes went into a dreamy mode as he saw Khanak drinking in every word that he spoke. He paused remembering the time when he had found out that he was going to be a father' how he had immediately told Khanak that he wanted a girl who he would name Asha.
"Phir?" Khanak whispered. "Phir kya hua?" she asked knowing the answer yet fearing it.
"Geeta tumharee gynachologist thee----your pregnancy was going perfect----October kay beginning main Geeta nay humay bataya kay----kay humara beta honay wala hain----" Shaan tightened the hold on Khanak's hands and let his thumbs caress her palms. Gulping as he relived the memories he went on, thinking that if he would stop now, he would never be able to complete. " Tum buhat khush thee----tumhay beta hee chahiyay tha-----"
Khanak closed her eyes bitterly as Shaan saw two tear drops flow over her cheeks from each eye and make their way into her ears.
"Hmmm----" Khanak managed. She would have indeed wanted a son, she thought smiling in her head yet crying in her heart.
"I wanted a daughter----" Shaan gave a small laugh and realized he was crying too. Hot tears from his eyes rolled over his cheeks and fell on Khanak's hands, making her heart bleed even more. "Humnay USG karaya----tum humaray betay ka scan apnay purse main rakhtee thee----phir----phir----" Shaan could not complete the sentence but he had to. He had to. He owed Khanak the truth. But more than that he owed himself the right to grieve with his wife; grieve for their son together finally. "Phir---October main----October kay end main-----tumhara accident hua----humnay apna beta kho diya---"
There. He had said it. He hadtold Khanak what he had been battling with himself not to tell her since months. And just as he had expected it was painful. But he even felt a huge sense of relief. Like some great burden ahd been lifted off his chest. Khanak's face was screwed up in pain. Shaan looked at her but he knew nothing woul happen to her. There was no brain in this conversation. It was a talk purely from one heart to another. How right he was, for Khanak's tears had begun to flow on their own accord as though they had a mind of their own. Shaan kept his head on Khanak's stomach sideways. Khanak felt his hot tears on her stomach oozing through the sheet that Khanak was covered with.
"Humaray betay----betay ka naam----?"Khanak breathed
"Sushant----"Shaan answered, his head still kept sideways on Khanak's stomach.
Khanak smiled between her tears. "Sushant ----kyun----" she asked.
Shaan lifted his head and looked into Khanak's eys again. "Sushant----Suraj aur Shaantanu ka milaap----" he whispered. "S and U that came in Suraj's name-----'Shant' that came in mine----" he said. More tears flowed blurring Khanak's vision. Shaan wiped Khanak's face with his hands. Khanak lifted her hands and wiped Shaan's face. And then they both cried. They cried bitterly, holding each other's face and hands. Toegther they grieved for their loss, together they cried not knowing whether minutes had passed, or hours, or days.
"Ub main chane say so sakti hoon Shaantanu----" Khanak said weakly as her eye lids drooped.
"When you wake up---we'll start all over again----"Shaan whispered in her ear through a sob and a smile.
