Filmmaker Prakash Jha has shared an exciting update for fans of his political drama Raajneeti. The director recently revealed that the long-discussed sequel is finally moving forward and is currently in its early development stage. While details about casting and filming remain under wraps, the filmmaker confirmed that work on the script and planning has already begun.

The 2010 film, which starred Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in pivotal roles, became one of the most talked-about political dramas of its time. With the sequel now in the works, fans are curious whether the original cast might return for another chapter of the intense power struggle.

Prakash Jha Shares Fresh Update On The Sequel

During a recent conversation with Screen, Prakash Jha confirmed that the sequel is actively being developed. According to him, the project is presently in the pre-production phase, which means the groundwork for the film is underway.

The filmmaker also spoke about Ranbir Kapoor’s earlier remark that he was not fully satisfied with his performance in the first film. Jha responded warmly to the actor’s reflection, explaining that it is natural for artists to reassess their work with time. In his view, the fact that an actor revisits their performance with a critical eye shows maturity and dedication to the craft.

Jha praised Ranbir’s work in the original film and added that while creative professionals often feel they could have done more when looking back, the performance was still strong and impactful.

The Sequel Plan Was Revealed Earlier

Interestingly, this is not the first time Jha has spoken about continuing the story. Back in June 2025, while marking fifteen years of Raajneeti, he had hinted that a sequel had always been part of the plan.

At the time, he mentioned that politics is a journey that never really ends, making it a theme that can always be revisited through new stories and conflicts. While nothing had been finalized then in terms of casting or schedules, he confirmed that he had started shaping ideas for the next chapter.

Raajneeti Still Holds A Strong Legacy

Released in 2010, Raajneeti stood out for blending modern politics with themes inspired by the epic Mahabharata. The film featured a powerful ensemble including Ajay Devgn, Nana Patekar, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee and Naseeruddin Shah.

Audiences praised the film for its layered storytelling, intense performances and its sharp look at ambition, loyalty and betrayal in politics.
