Questions on Ram for asking Sita to give AgniPareeksha is often raised. Why Ram asked Sita to give AgniPareeksha? Some people say that Ram didn't have trust on her that's why he asked her to do so.

What make someone great n unforgotable? Sacrifices n great deeds make some great. Why Ram, Laxman, Sita, Urmila, Bharat, Hanumaan etc r great? Why people worship them? Because of their Tyaga, virtuous nature, great deeds.

Every Raghuvanshi is known for some Tyaga be it Harishchandra or Raghu or Aja or Iksvaku or Dasrath, Sumitra etc. Was Sita the first women to give Agni Pareeksha? No. Was Sita first in Raghuvansh to give Pareeksha. No. Every celebrated Raghuvanshi gave some kind of tough Pareeksha in their life time n successfully cleared it. That's why they became unforgettable. Had they spend their entire life in pleasure n luxury they wouldn't have become unforgettable. Actually it's those pareekshas which made them great.

Before Sita celebrated Queen of Raghuvansh- Harishchandra's wife Chandramati(other name Taramati) gave AgniPareeksha n successfully cleared it. Hope all of u know the story of Harishchandra n his wife, her greatness, her sacrifice. I have posted the story under the topic started by Rajnish ' ascendants n descendants of Ram'. Those who r higher in virtue doesn't get burned by Fire. By their virtue they can cool down Agni. Chandramati was asked to give Agnipareeksha because she was queen not a commoner. Common people shud have full trust on their King n queen. King is regarded as mouthpiece of God. Being a queen it was her duty to so. They r ideal of Praja they shud establish high ideals by their deeds. Wife is called 'SahaDharmini' means one who helps in every step to fulfill all duty under Dharma. Chandrmati too did so. If she were a commoner not queen there was no need to give any AgniPareeksha. Before AgniPareeksha in one more occasion Sita made fire coolant. When Hanumaan caught fire in Lanka Sita gave him boon that fire will be coolant to him.

Ram knew that when they will return Ayodhya they will be made King n Queen by going through various rituals. People must have full trust on them. See Bharat was faultless but he was shunned by people of Ayodhya when he retuned Ayodhya after Dasrath's death. Moreover Ram knew the mentality of people for womenfolk that's why he her asked to give AgniPaareeksha. After her abduction so many gossips or apwaad took place abt her. In that one year many people raised so many questions. When people of Ayodhya came to know about that they too started gossiping n doubting her without making any attempt to know the actual truth. There was no information technology, no nationwide circulating news paper in that era. Common people didn't have any facility to know that actual truth. They didn't know abt Ravan's curse, where Sita in kept n who r her guards etc.

The fact that Ram had full trust on her is established by the fact that Ram asked her to give AgniPareeksh in front of all. If he had slightest doubt on her he would have never asked her to give AgniPareeksh in front of all. If he had slightest fear in her mind abt Sita he would have never asked her to give Agnipareeksha. Because if Sita failed in AgniPareeksha this wud have caused great public shame to Ram n his dynasty. But he didn't hav slightest fear for Sita when he asked her to give AgniPareeksha in public because he knew her strength. If he had slightest doubt on her would have asked her to give Pareeksha in private first then in front of all.

Sita n Laxman were Ram's alter ego. For Ram they were someone more pious then himself, faultless, purer than purest.

Great post, Purvi.
Yes, it is correct that Ram had full faith in Sita. As Ram himself said, he asked Sita to undergo agni pariksha to prove to people that she was faultless.

well tht's a grave issue !!!

really cannot say anything abt what was there in ramji & sitaji's mind at tht time 😕 .

by the way i am not in favour of agni-pariksha ,sum ppl say tht ramji wanted to take back real sitaji from agni dev ,so he asked for agnipariksha (as real sitaji was safe wid agnidev & only the shadow of sitaji or a replica of sitaji was abducted by ravan ) .

but one thing i know tht RAMJI & SITAJI loved each other soooooooooo much !! 😳

all celebrated Raghuvanshis gave some sort of Pareeksha. Braves never fear Pareeksha. Sita was much much greater than AgniDev. That is clear from her boon that she gave to Hanumaan that fire will be coolant to him.

Sita was Ram's ego. He fought the entire war for her even killed Baali for her. If he had slightest doubt on her he wud hav never asked her to give Agnipareeksha in public. He didn't feared that sita might get burned this shows what was in his mind at that time- full trust n respect

i meant to say tht dunno what was running in ramji's mind wen he asked sitaji for agni pariksha ??? ramji might b forced in his mind & heart to ask sitaji to give her pariksha !!!😭 ramji wud b feeling terrible & utterly confused ,whether to ask sitaji for pariksha or not??😕

in his heart RAMJI always knew tht SITAJI is purest of pure, pativrata & ramji trusted sitaji more than anything in the whole world, just to give a proof to others ,RAMJI might b compelled to ask SITAJI to give her pariksha !!!😭😭

but even after agni pareeksha sita had been made to leave palace and go to valmiki ashram and dobhi had made some comment on sita
main raja ram nahi hun jo apni patni ko ghar bithao something like that

but i also heard or rather read in some books ram knew all as vishnu incarnate and he had called agni dev and gave sita to him for safety while he kept her chhaya with him that happend in private without lakshman knowledge

so agni pariksha was for world to know that he is testin his wife's purity i guess but real purpose was to get back his real sita

It was shown in the previous Ramayana...
Laxman got upset when Ram had mentioned about Sita's agnipareeksha. Then Ram explained to him....
Just before Sita's abduction by Ravan, one day when Laxman was out in the forest, Ram and Sita had a discussion that it was almost time for the cause for which they have reincarnated. Then actual Sitaji was handed over to Agnidev, and what remained for Ravan to abduct was merely a shadow of Sita. Ram even explained to Laxman, if Ravan had touched the actual Sita, he would have been burnt. So, when Ram was asking for Sita's agnipariksha, actually it was to bring back the real Sita from Agnidev, although it'ld appear to other people that Sitaji was giving a test of her chastity.I hope it is shown again in the new version of Ramayana.

@ chatterbox n Omshanti11111

Chhaya Sita is in RamCharitManas. In Ram Charit Manas Ram knew everything abt his future that's why there is mention of Chahaya Sita in it. But in Valmiki Ramayan Ram didn't knew abt his future so no chhaya Sita. That is clear from the way he lamented for Sita till the end of the epic, the way he lamented for Dasrath, Bharat, Laxman, Kausalya, Jataayu etc. n even sometime held his misfortune responsible for the sufferings of his loved ones. Ramayan of 1986 was based on Ram Charit Maanas so they showed Chhaya Sita
