I noticed the title song once, and there, I did catch 'Swami Ananda' as one of the sources of this, which would be Khalrika-di's Ananda Ramayan. Although addressing as 'Swami' someone who wrote that Rama asked for Sita's arm to be severed and given to him bas***dizes the term.

Yup, Ananya & Chen2, I second that. In fact, there are 2 things they are doing here which serve to strengthen that impression of it being a fictional monster thriller:

  • Showing ahistorical events even in the main serial, (such as Indrajit's severed hand writing the note to Sulochana,) making the Ramayan a lot more fanciful than it actually is, and sometimes more grizzly🤢
  • Replacing the completely normal train of events in Valmiki with a whole bunch of make-believe stories from elsewhere. In fact, if one takes out Ravan's 10 heads, Ahalya's revival, and a few other things, the Ramayan is perfectly logical to allow as a historical document: in fact, historians have used Ramayan as a source for the history of that era (although they don't go by the treta-yuga and dwapar-yuga timelines of thousands of years).

The only silver lining to this is that TRPs are in the toilet. It's therefore a good thing that nobody is publicly protesting this, or else, the publicity they'd get would only drive up ratings. I hope that they continue to fall like a rock, (or like Luv would have had today's rakshasha guards let him drop).

The other good thing is that NDTV Imagine is just one of some 100 channels, and that too with a very low rating, with the result that the coverage that Ramanand Sagar's serial had in 1987 is not there with this serial today. Not too many people know about it, and even if they do, not everyone has it - one has to specifically order this channel with some TV carriers.

And yes, I hate the serial being called Ramayan anymore. In fact, unless a serial is pure Valmiki, it should be banned from being called Ramayan. Let them call it any of the suggestions we had, or something else. The past can, and normally affects, the present and the future. The present cannot alter the past, as the government would like to do.

Chandra bhaiya, it is not my Ananda Ramayan. 😆😆😆
😕😕😕 I would never write such fanciful stories like Swami Ananda or whoever who wrote this "other" Ramayan in Sanskrit. I hope I have more intelligence than that! 😕😕😕

The more you see it as Ramayan, the more your blood boils..... honestly mine does!!!

True Chen, They could have better stopped the serial after Ram's Rajyabhishek. Or else they could have started these tales with other name . Any how I have already stopped watching serial, following only written updates. I only start watching when they come into correct story line🥱🥱🥱. Till then, I will only watch you tube videos of previous episodes in my free time.

It would have been better if they had created a separate show for the Jataka tales. They are quite interesting on their own but combining them with Valmiki and Tulsidas versions is not a sound creative decision. They don't go together very well. This is especially problematic on a show that has been presented as an adaptation in the same vein as the earlier Ramanand Sagar version.Or they should have been honest from the very beginning that they were going to stretch the show by any means necessary even if the script doesn't hold up. I remember the show Raavan. That was quite different (and very interesting during the child and teenage stages of Ravan's story) but, regardless of whether the script worked or not, at least they made it clear from the very beginning that it was going to be a different take on the story.

agree with you kal El( sorry duunw ur name), this is just insul of our Epic. By doing this sagar has lost evry fame he gaine by recreating Ramayan. Their is lot of issues stories of uttar ramayan Not only from Valmiki versions but from different puranas and versions too which they could use but ignoring all they mixed jataka tale whatever with Ramayana. Its not their epic or story which they twist in thier own way. Why din't they made different serial on these stories. If they wanted different approach they could have shown from scriptures which has a lot to say. Just starting Ramayana and moving to Jataka tales an dada dadi story they betrayed their audians😡. If he would have copied from older Ramayan we wud have appereciated a lot but he even could not done. Shame om them🤢

Rupali

The only way we should protest is by not watching the show, and bitching about it here. If we publicly protest this, it will play into the hands of NDTV Imagine, and provide them the publicity they need to invoke public curiousity - thereby backfiring on us.

Are Gurmina the public spokespeople for this serial? If yes, they have serious trouble on their hands if on their TV appearances, they get asked about the source of all this. For his sake, I hope that they're familiar with what Valmiki says, and which portions are from which sources, rather than just saying that they are taking it from plenty of sources, and not just Valmiki.

Khalrika

I know Ananda Ramayan is not yours - I just said 'Khalrika's Ananda Ramayan' to credit you with its discovery on I-F. I know you wouldn't write any crap of that sort.😆😆😆

In today's episode, Bhayasura collapsing on Chakrasura and killing him reminded me of Scott Adams' Dilbert cartoon where Dilbert's ego and insecurity are both personified by 2 giant sized Dilberts, and when Dilbert's ego grows too big and threatens the peace of the house, Dilbert or Dogbert - I forget which - ask the ego to confront the personified Mr Insecurity, who is far bigger than the ego. Mr Ego is crushed by Mr Insecurity falling on him - similar to how Bhayasura fell on Chakrasura. If any of you are unfamiliar with Dilbert, I apologize, but this parallel was just too glaring to go un-noticed.

But hey Khalrika & Chen2, I don't mind if Ramayan stories are now derived from Dilbert, since they are already importing stuff from the jataka tales, folk stories and the like - why not Dilbert? Mr Vidhi is Dogbert, Kush-Luv are Dilbert, the rakshashas and the meanies who confront them are Catbert, et al. Certainly, Dilbert would be a lot less grotesque than Sinbad, Ali Baba, Hatim Tai, et al🤣🤣🤣

Oh.......... Haven't watched the episode yet....... Didn't think I was missing something as opposed to say till 2 months back. I would be waiting for the episode to be uploaded and would watch it immediately, but now its like, aah.......
I agree with you on this point, Sagar Puran can have any number and type of sources.... Why not Dilbert? Honestly, if only they would change the name of the serial, I have no problems with all the crap they show.
