I just saw the episodes after a long time. The titles say that Luv-Kush stories are based on...drum roll...

Jataka kathayein and popular folk tales!!!!!!!!!!😲

What were the Sagars thinking?????? Popular folk tales like what??? Popular folk tales of Luv Kush or popular folk tales of Sindabad, Alibaba aur chalise chor, Vikram aur Vetal, Dada dadi ki Kahani, or tales of our favorite guy Mr. Vidi ka Vidhan???????

😭 laughing and crying at the same time. Weird emotions Mr. Vidi bring out in one. 😆
😭🤣🤣

Actually I was thinking on the same lines...my feeling is:"So what if our folk tales are rich in tradition, how do they really contribute to the histrocity of Ramayan ? Not to sound too much political but our 'secular' gov'ts in north n south are bent upon in proving that Ram and Ramayan are a pure fiction (the serial just goes to vent this feeling🤢)the govt even produced false verses saying that Rama broke the Ramsetu before returning to ayodhya with Sita n others😡 . which is not at all true, infact our (ancient) Purans always mention as Ram-setu as sacred and appeals to all citizens that it should be a protected site .
On the lighter note: 'All popular folk tales does mean :
arabian nights, Vikram -betal , Vidhi ka vidhan et all
all these have been included much to our dismay and screwing up Ramayan 😡

And for heaven's sake, stop referring to this serial as "Ramayan". We have a load of other options to use.
The more you see it as Ramayan, the more your blood boils..... honestly mine does!!!

And all this while, they do a perfect job in promoting the charade that they are really devout Rama-bhakts😡 - all while making it look like fatalism (Vidhi ka Vidhan) is what rules ones destiny.

I noticed the title song once, and there, I did catch 'Swami Ananda' as one of the sources of this, which would be Khalrika-di's Ananda Ramayan. Although addressing as 'Swami' someone who wrote that Rama asked for Sita's arm to be severed and given to him bas***dizes the term.

Yup, Ananya & Chen2, I second that. In fact, there are 2 things they are doing here which serve to strengthen that impression of it being a fictional monster thriller:

  • Showing ahistorical events even in the main serial, (such as Indrajit's severed hand writing the note to Sulochana,) making the Ramayan a lot more fanciful than it actually is, and sometimes more grizzly🤢
  • Replacing the completely normal train of events in Valmiki with a whole bunch of make-believe stories from elsewhere. In fact, if one takes out Ravan's 10 heads, Ahalya's revival, and a few other things, the Ramayan is perfectly logical to allow as a historical document: in fact, historians have used Ramayan as a source for the history of that era (although they don't go by the treta-yuga and dwapar-yuga timelines of thousands of years).

The only silver lining to this is that TRPs are in the toilet. It's therefore a good thing that nobody is publicly protesting this, or else, the publicity they'd get would only drive up ratings. I hope that they continue to fall like a rock, (or like Luv would have had today's rakshasha guards let him drop).

The other good thing is that NDTV Imagine is just one of some 100 channels, and that too with a very low rating, with the result that the coverage that Ramanand Sagar's serial had in 1987 is not there with this serial today. Not too many people know about it, and even if they do, not everyone has it - one has to specifically order this channel with some TV carriers.

And yes, I hate the serial being called Ramayan anymore. In fact, unless a serial is pure Valmiki, it should be banned from being called Ramayan. Let them call it any of the suggestions we had, or something else. The past can, and normally affects, the present and the future. The present cannot alter the past, as the government would like to do.

Oh oh, these Sagars are actually putting that on the titles, about jataka tales?! Sheesh,I didn't know that. No wonder your blood is boiling Chen! They are making a mockery out of this whole epic!
Chandra, NDTV Imagine is one of those low rated channels among all these other channels and no wonder! I do love my fav show though, Bandini! I came on to it by accident, because the so called "Ramayan" is so boring. I do read the updates but even if updates are done perfectly by Avinash or Chandra, I can't even read the updates fully bec my attention starts to wander, hehehee! Booooooorrrrrrriiiiiiinnnnngggg!😡

I want to let my stem out too. Something should be done.

Can we protest publicly now?
Oh, btw, I think, I may have list of "Ramayans", used in serial. At list I posted it in my blog, but alas, not in English.
But I can post it here in English too, I just need some time.
