HOW DARE THEY? 😡
I never watch the title song, so never got to notice this...
And all this while, they do a perfect job in promoting the charade that they are really devout Rama-bhakts😡 - all while making it look like fatalism (Vidhi ka Vidhan) is what rules ones destiny.
I noticed the title song once, and there, I did catch 'Swami Ananda' as one of the sources of this, which would be Khalrika-di's Ananda Ramayan. Although addressing as 'Swami' someone who wrote that Rama asked for Sita's arm to be severed and given to him bas***dizes the term.
Yup, Ananya & Chen2, I second that. In fact, there are 2 things they are doing here which serve to strengthen that impression of it being a fictional monster thriller:
- Showing ahistorical events even in the main serial, (such as Indrajit's severed hand writing the note to Sulochana,) making the Ramayan a lot more fanciful than it actually is, and sometimes more grizzly🤢
- Replacing the completely normal train of events in Valmiki with a whole bunch of make-believe stories from elsewhere. In fact, if one takes out Ravan's 10 heads, Ahalya's revival, and a few other things, the Ramayan is perfectly logical to allow as a historical document: in fact, historians have used Ramayan as a source for the history of that era (although they don't go by the treta-yuga and dwapar-yuga timelines of thousands of years).
The only silver lining to this is that TRPs are in the toilet. It's therefore a good thing that nobody is publicly protesting this, or else, the publicity they'd get would only drive up ratings. I hope that they continue to fall like a rock, (or like Luv would have had today's rakshasha guards let him drop).
The other good thing is that NDTV Imagine is just one of some 100 channels, and that too with a very low rating, with the result that the coverage that Ramanand Sagar's serial had in 1987 is not there with this serial today. Not too many people know about it, and even if they do, not everyone has it - one has to specifically order this channel with some TV carriers.
And yes, I hate the serial being called Ramayan anymore. In fact, unless a serial is pure Valmiki, it should be banned from being called Ramayan. Let them call it any of the suggestions we had, or something else. The past can, and normally affects, the present and the future. The present cannot alter the past, as the government would like to do.
