I think that was the second reason of enemity between Shiva & Daksha. The first one was Shiva marrying Sati. As per the story I've heard, in the Yagna at Prayag, Daksha argues that inspite of being the Lord, Shiva was still his Son-in-Law and in that relation, He should have risen up to respect him.
And Shiva says that though He was Daksha's son-in-law, He was the Lord, and need not have risen.

Incidentally, when Shiva & Parvati were in love and conceiving Kartikeya, that was when and where the Budh-Hila story in the Ramayan took place.

Is the Budh- Ila story mentioned in the Ramayan?

Thanks Chandra and Deepa. I am feeling much better today. I am walking around with this mask over my nose. 😆 Now I know how that rakshas felt, the one who had Luv-Kush's arrows stuck up his nose. 😆

I too can imagine it........... My nose is also feeling funny inside (though not too bad). Looks like you sent across some pollen from Sunnyvale to Chicago is it? 😉

I live in the Bay Area but not in Sunnyvale. Chandra said Sunnyvale. He is right about the pollen though. My backyard furniture is blanketed yellow from the pollen falling from the 3 oak trees. My eyes have swollen to the size of ballons and allergy medications don't help all that much. Waiting for mid May when all this springtime nonsense will be gone.
Actually, waiting for Memorial Day! Got to wait for a month and a half, I think! 🤔 Wonder if we will be stuck in Kuber lok even then! 😆

The first one was something that Daksha readily agreed to at the behest of Brahma - he didn't show any objections at the time. Of course, during the final confrontation with Sati, he did tell her that the only reason he had agreed to give her to Shiva was at Brahma's behest. But was that something he said in the heat of that moment, or is it actually mentioned in the part on Sati's marriage that he had his reservations? I thought that Shiva's perceived slight to him was the only reason.

In 7:87-90. Incidentally, where else aside from the Ramayan is the Budh-Hila story?

I think Daksha was never ready to marry Sati to Shiva. And Brahma's was a compulsion for him to agree to their wedding.

I came across this story on the internet and no authentic scripture.

I have a different question re: the Shiva-Sati story.

When Shiva got news of Sati's self-immolation, he tore off a strand of his hair and split it in 2. From one of them arose Virbhadra, who was the one who trounced Indra and Vishnu and killed Daksha: the other was Mahakali, who led the ganas and routed not just the devas, but also the asuras that Rishi Bhrigu, who was the presiding priest of the yagna, invoked to save the yagna.

So if Mahakali's existance dates back to the post-Sati, pre-Parvati era, how is Mahakali sometimes represented as a manifestation of Parvati, the same way Devi Durga is?

I am confused about the timeline too. There r many versions for all our stories and the main reason seems to be that the purans and epics were modified over time by different authors to suit their morality or whatever.

I read about the philosophical meaning of Kali and Durga somewhere. The raw spiritual energy that all humans have is supposed to be like Kali. To attain moksha, we have to channelize that raw spiritual energy to the Durga type energy and do good (jagat Kalyan) with that energy.

Thanks for the explanation. I've always wondered why Durga Puja is near Dushera and Kali Puja co-incides with Deepavali.
