Udne Ki Aasha: Kanwar Dhillon reflects on Sachin’s Journey

Kanwar Dhillon, who plays the lead role of Sachin Deshmukh in Rahul Kumar Tewary and Rolling Tales Production’s Udne Ki Aasha, believes the journey of his character has been one of the most layered and fulfilling experiences of his career.

“Revisiting Sachin’s past traumas every time they came up — his mother not accepting him, being bullied as a child, or living under the weight of blame for something he never did — all of it has shaped him. Even if people see Sachin as someone with alcohol issues, he has his reasons, which he never expresses, because he carries so much emotional burden,” Kanwar shares.

For him, bringing out Sachin’s vulnerabilities has been both challenging and rewarding. “It’s not just fun and comedy. The emotional parts have been the most difficult to portray. Personally, I love doing such scenes, and I’m grateful that audiences have appreciated me in those moments. It’s not easy to make people laugh and cry — hasana aur rulana bahut mushkil hota hai,” he says.

Kanwar admits he has always been a selective actor when it comes to projects. But the love and support from fans since the very beginning of the show reaffirmed his choices. “The biggest highlight for me is that a flawed character was loved by audiences right from the start. At first, there was mixed feedback — people questioned why such a flawed guy was being highlighted. But eventually, those very people connected with Sachin’s struggles and fell in love with him. That, for me, is truly special.”

As Udne Ki Aasha completes a year, Kanwar reflects on how far Sachin has come. From being reckless and impulsive to becoming more sensible and responsible, especially after marrying Sailee, the character’s growth has been remarkable.

“What makes it beautiful is the journey — so many emotions, so many layers. Not every actor gets that chance, especially as a male lead on television. I feel blessed that Sachin came into my life, and I get to live and portray him so beautifully,” Kanwar concludes.
