Also Hanuman's father Kesari aided this campaign with his own army and he too participated in the war. I think Kesari was the king of a province called Sumer - not sure about this.

In Jai Hanuman, they showed a different story from what we have seen in NDTVI Ramayan. Here they showed that Vali was the reason for the death of Mayavi's wife. In Jai Hanuman Mayavi seeks Vali for killing his brother Dhundubi. And as per this story, it was Ravan who sent Dhundubi to kill Vali.

The story of Jai Hanuman is so different. 😕

I'll confirm this again, but I think in Valmiki, Sushen was Tara's father. It was in Tulsidas that he was Ravan's vaid.
Also, your Jai Hanuman story is partly borne out, if you recall, by the ACK 'Vali'. In it, do you recall - originally, Dundubi went out on his terror missions (had Ravan sent him to hunt down Vali, why would Dundubhi have challenged Varuna and Himavan, rather than head straight to Kishkinda itself?), and ultimately got killed by Vali, and Mayavi, who is his son, not his bro here, goes out to avenge him. In which case, Dundubhi would have been Mandodari's bro, but not Mayavi.
I recall someone asking me this during the serial - which happened first - Vali's encounter w/ Ravan, or Vali's encounter w/ Dundubhi? (I think we can all agree that Mayavi happened after Dundubhi?) Any idea? (The original question from that poster was whether Ravan had gone out to avenge Dundubhi/Mayavi)

I think Vali/Ravan was first. I guess you still may have it on you tube!

Friend of mine asked me a question, but I don't know where to find the answer. The question was: Why Rama didn't ask Vishvamitra about Sita's whereabouts after Sita was abducted by Ravan? And second question was why Rama didn't contact Ayodhya about help in this matter?
I bet we already discussed this but I cannot find 😔

^^^^Pure geography. Rama was in Panchavati, whereas everyone else was in the North, and Vishwamitra was goodness knows where. So Rama used what he had @ his disposal, and followed the trail that ultimately led him to Hanuman.

Thanks, Vrisha!
And I have another question: who can help me with my Mahabharata questions?

Vibs, NDTV Imagine was correct about the Vali & Mayavi story. In Valmiki Ramayan, it is Mayavi who challenges Vali to a fight in the middle of the night because Vali wrongs Mayavi's woman.

Vibs, u r correct. Susena is Tara's father.

Vibs, u r correct about Kesari too. According to Valmiki, Hanuman's father Kesari does fight in the war. His name his mentioned in the Yuddhakand along with the great Varnasena warriors. There is no chapter on him like there is for Nila, Hanuman, Angad, or Sugrev. I had to read quite a bit of the Yuddhakand to finally come across his name which is why it took soooooo long to reply to your questions. 😆

Valmiki just says that this enmity occurred on account of a woman - it's not more specific as to whether the fault was Vali's or Mayavi's. Somehow, it seems to me that Vali lusting after a rakshashi was less likely than Mayavi lusting after a Vanara

Incidentally, were Tara and Roma sisters b4 marriage, like Sita & Urmila, or were theirs just a Jethani/Devrani relationship?

Vibs

If you recall the ACK Vali, it has Mayavi challenging Vali on account of Vali's killing of Dundubhi, and there, Mayavi is described as Dundubhi's son.
I think the account that has Mayavi and Dundubhi as brothers is correct.
