Thanks for the info on Mayuresh. 😊I was wondering what happened to him - he was by far the cuter of the 2. You're welcome; yup, he was very cute, but I was more partial to Swapnil.😆
On the success of the original Ramayan, one thing worth noting is that it used to be broadcast Sundays at 9:00AM, and then the entire country used to come to a standstill. Of course, that is phenomenal, but w/o taking anything away from it, it's worth noting that this was broadcast to a captive audience (since DD was the only channel, and there wasn't even a DD2, from what I recall) on prime time Sundays. When the Uttarkand sequel was shown, it was shown on Tuesdays at 8:00PM and was a half-hour episode, as opposed to 1 hour for the prequel. (Note that BRC, which kicked in around the same time, had similar if not more phenomenal ratings) The Uttarkand had, from what I recall, nowhere near the ratings of either the prequel, nor the Mahabharat which had just started - maybe a lot of people had no idea when it was running. That, and BRC's MB became a big hit from what I recall and since the main Ramayan was over, I think people preferred BRC's MB to Uttar Kand.
Today, this is a show on one particular channel that many people would have to separately order if they are with the basic package on some networks - when I first came to India last year, we didn't have it. So this is sorta like a Windows OS/2 comparison - while Windows is provided by default, people who had OS/2 on their PCs were those who went out of their way to get it. Likewise, the serials 20 years ago were there for everybody who had a TV: today's viewers would have to hunt for it. Did you watch Old Ramayan when it was first telecast? How was the experience watching the first mythological serial ever to be made?
