The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition seeking action against the song 'Bhai Vakeel Hai' from Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi's upcoming movie Jolly LLB 3. The petition demanded a stay on the movie's release, alleging that it defamed the judiciary and legal profession.
Court's Observation
A Division Bench of Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice Brij Raj Singh observed that they found 'nothing objectionable' in the song's lyrics or the film's trailer or teaser. The court stated, "We did not find any objectionable matter to warrant interference by this Court. We have also gone through the lyrics of the song 'Bhai Vakeel Hai' and we do not find anything which may interfere in the practice of the legal profession by genuine Advocates."
No Costs Imposed
The court dismissed the plea without imposing any costs, providing relief to the filmmakers.
Jolly LLB 3 faces another case in Pune
Despite this relief, Jolly LLB 3 faces another case in Pune. A Pune court issued notices to Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, asking them to appear on September 28 regarding a complaint filed by lawyer Wajid Khan Bidkar. Bidkar alleged that the movie mocks the legal system and court proceedings.
Previous Controversies
The film had previously encountered legal issues in May 2024 when the Ajmer District Bar Association lodged a complaint against the filmmakers. The association's president, Chandrabhan, claimed that the franchise disrespects the Indian judiciary system, portraying lawyers and judges in an "inappropriate" manner. "This decision has been taken considering the first and second parts of Jolly LLB. It seems that the filmmakers, directors and actors do not respect the dignity and prestige of the judiciary of the country's Constitution at all. The shooting of Jolly LLB 3 is going on in the surrounding villages and areas including the DRM office of Ajmer, which will continue for several days. Even during the shooting of this film, the actors of the film do not seem to be at all serious about the image, prestige and dignity of the judiciary including the judges," Chandrabhan had said as quoted by NBT.
Film Background
The Jolly LLB franchise has been a hit among audiences, with the first film released in 2013 and the sequel in 2017. The upcoming third installment features an impressive cast, including Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, and Gajraj Rao.
