@Mandodari: Watch Om namah shivay on youtube, theres the story of Bhimasur; there's the story by Vibhshna in the doubts n discussion thread.
Isn't the actor playing Valmiki the same as the one who played the cameo of Kuber in this serial?? He is a regular actor found in Sagar serials.... he acted as yudhishtira in Shri Krishna serial.
Chandra bhaiya : Waiting for the video, BIG thanks in advance😊
yup the stories from Shiv-puran and shown here are very different , guess it has more than one textual source...
Never know in this serial they might even make Bhimasur wage a war with shrii Rama..
Sita, u're welcome😊 thanks for the short update...

Wow people, looks like we all are becoming Trikaaldarshis😃😃. What a coincidence that we were discussing about Karkati yday and today the very same story is being shown................
It was a nice link there in the story with Sita dreaming (rather nightmaring) that a relative of Ravan is still alive.
Arey yaar! But family scenes kaa kyaa huaa? Abhi se Valmiki Ashram kyon jaa rahe rahe hain? Hamein Ayodhya se baahar nahi jaanaa..............please..............
Valmiki is really good. Very expressive.............
As Vibs pointed out - It would be nice to know the real names of the characters.....

Thanks Ananya. I am still confused though. 😕😕 How can a person who has just given birth wage a war with Ramji? 😕😕😕

Most important, today's highlight was the most celebrated verse of ramayana "Ma~nishadpratisthamtva....maagamaa shashvatiisamah...👏
Can really imagine how heart broken Valmiki must have been with the premonition that Ram n Sita would be separated or something unusual was about to happen😭😭😭

Ananya

I used to be under the impression that this was verse 1-1-1 of the Ramayan, and that that shloka would be the opening shloka of the Ramayan. But today, reading it, I found out that it was actually 1-2-15. Yet, I was always under the impression that the Ramayan started with this verse. But it's not the first verse of either sargs 1 nor 2.

What did I misunderstand? And where?😕

Firstly, I have a doubt, is it not just the male bird that the hunter kills? It was shown that he killed both...?
This is what I inferred from today's episode. That Valmiki had the vision of Ram's journey past, present & future, and he had already visualised till the Rajyabhishek. Knowing what was to come, he did not want to write. And I think this verse was instrumental in him continuing with his work and teaching it to his pupils Luv & Kush. Also, this sloka was aimed at Ram saying he had killed the birds (Ravan & Mandodari), and that his further life would not be peaceful. In the sense, this sloka just gave the way for Valmiki to continue further. This is what I inferred. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.
And I think Valmiki Ramayan starts with today's episode ie Narad inspiring Valmiki to go to Tamsa & Valmiki's curse and there on......

That's a brilliant observation that had never crossed my mind. Only asymmetry here - the swans had never done anything to the hunter, but it's not like Ravan & Mandodari were having a beautiful conjugal moment and Rama chose to take out Ravan. So the analogy does fail there.

Correct this isn't the first verse of Ramayana but this one verse became a turning point of Ramayan; The "Shoka" gief of Valmiki became "Shloka" a metric verse( anushtup); the metre followed in the verse became the foundation of whole Ramayana i.e all the other verses followed this poetic rule of having four quarters and each quarters/pada had eight syllables (equally deposited) thus this rule was applied to whatever he had written before. Ofcourse the verse 1-1-1 in Valmiki Ramayan too follows the same rule as included by Valmiki himself and was taught to his various disciples including Kush and Lav who sang it.

um... What formed a background for this verse is also narrated ,maybe thats why this shloka isn't the opening verse, thats what I can say.
Hope this is helps..
Deepa, I too thought that this curse to a hunter was a blessing(?) to Rama that he will get a reputation which will be everlasting.
Right only the male bird is killed dunno why the serial showed both birds being killed😕 infact the grief of the female bird made Valmiki more furious

Ananya, thanks. That does explain it quite well!

Yeah, I too didn't get why the serial shows both birds being killed. But logically, if you think of it, it makes more sense. The hunter wasn't out to disrupt their love life - he just wanted dinner, and so it would have made sense for him to kill both of them, so that he could have cooked both.

Also, the hunter did not fall at Valmiki's feet and beg for forgiveness. Also, Valmiki regretted the curse the moment he uttered it.

Subtle, but stark differences - like the one about Rama offering the Yuvraj position to Bharat in the serial, vs Lakshman in the original.
