Part 10
Yudi's hand shook as he lifted Rani's chin up to look into her eyes. Rani feeling his touch held on her skirt tighter and her breaths became shorter when she saw the look in his eyes. Unable to bear the intensity she lowered her eyes again but Yudi said, "Nahin, Rani chahe aap ko sharm aye ya aapke yeh gal," he stopped as he brushed her cheek with the back to his hand and continued, "aapke gal lal ho jain, laikin aap humare nazar se nazar mila ka rakhiye ga. Aap humare barabar hain, aapko hamare samne apne nazrein ya apna sar kabhi nahin jhukana pare ga."
Rani despite feeling like a real rajkumari in her clothes came to the final realization that she was a true rajkumari in that moment. She felt as if a weight had been lifted off her, the one that reminded her that she would never be his equal or deserve him. In that moment she could feel his love for her. The realization gave her the courage to look into his eyes and smile. Yudi seeing the smile leaned his head forward and rested his forehead against hers. Both their eyes fluttered shut and their arms went around one another simply enjoying the silence.
Yudi could feel the bare skin of her back against his arms as he wrapped them around her and Rani feeling his touch couldn't hold back the shiver that passed through her. Not long into their hug Yudi moved his hands to her bare waist, stroking the skin gently as he placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. Rani opened her eyes and moving forward leaned against his chest hugging him tighter tucking her head under his chin. They stayed like that for a few moments until Yudi pulled away making Rani sigh in disappoint, blushing when she realized that he had heard her sigh when she saw his pleased smile but she didn't look away which made Yudi's smile grow larger and bring one to her face as well.
Yudi wanted nothing more at that point than to pull Rani close and not let go but he still had some plans left. He grasped Rani's hand gently and pulled her towards the sofa where he sat her down and told her to wait. Rani looked on confused as he walked into one of the side rooms she had never noticed before. He came out holding a large, flat and thin rectangular object that was covered by a cloth. Rani looked at his in askance but he just told shook his head. He smiled as he watched her anxiety grow as he made her wait, watching her hands twist around itching to pull of the fabric but he knew she would never do that. The thought made him smile even more. Rani finally getting frustrated said, "Kuwarji, yeh kya hai?" gesturing to the object. Yudi laughed at her tone remembering when she had used that tone on him when he had suggested that she become the teacher for the Partshala. Unable to see her like that he pulled off the cloth.
Rani's eyes widened in shock as she stared ahead. The sight in front of mesmerized her and she reached out only to pull her hand back thinking it would disappear if she got closer or touched it. In front of her was a portrait of a woman and a man staring at each other, the man had his arms around the woman's waist holding her up. It seemed as if he had caught her as she was falling. Rani got off the couch and moved closer and as she did she noted the similarities in that man and woman's face and the location that they were in. She almost fell over as she realized that it was portrait of her and Yudi the day after their wedding when he had saved her from falling down the stairs. In shock, she looked up at Yudi wondering how it was possible that he had made this happen. She looked back at the portrait noticing the smiles on her and Yudi's face in the portrait and the love in their eyes that their artist had captured so well on canvas. She was in awe and tears started to roll down her cheeks as she brushed her fingers against the canvas and pulled them away afraid that she would damage the painting somehow.
Yudi seeing the tears and not understand that they were tears of happiness put the painting down and rushed towards Rani, kneeling down next to her.
Words started coming out of his mouth and he rambled on saying, "Rani, hume maaf kar dijiye, hum aapko dukhi nahin karna chahte the. Aap ko agar yeh nahin pasand aayi to hum isse phek kar aapke liye kuch aur lai aayengay."
Then there was silence in the room as Yudi's mouth was covered by Rani's lips that gently brushed his quickly and pulled away as she kneeled in front of him. A smile spread across his face as he realized that the tears he had seen were those of happiness and he was also happy to see that Rani had not looked away from him despite her red cheeks that rivaled the colour of the darkest red rose.
