ASYA (KaBhi) OS: Feeling slightly greenish!
"Go go go!" Zoya whispered pushing Asad towards the theatre doors. Asad shook his head nervously looking back at her for help. "I am helping you, go. She's waiting for you... wait wait" She grabbed the popcorn from the counter and ran towards him. He held her hand to stop her, Zoya warned him with her big eyes.
"Where you going?" Asad pulled her,
"Go in there now. I didn't work so hard for you to miss your movie date. Remember the hand move my stud!" She winked at him before hiding behind the pillar. She winked at him again. Asad nodded pulling his shirt collar and walking inside the movie theatre. His sighed dreamily finding his date waiting for him. He walked over towards her with a smile plastered on his face. He tapped her shoulder with his shaky finger, feeling electrocuted touching her. She turned around and smiled at him.
"What kept you? Shall we sit down?" Helena pointed towards their seats. Asad nodded before asking her to go ahead. He looked back nervously, but Zoya was nowhere in sight. He didn't understand why Helena didn't want Zoya to join them in their outing. If she was here, he wouldn't be this nervous. What was he thinking? He's a stud, he can do this. He sat down passing the popcorn to Helena whilst he got comfortable in his seat. He moved his hand towards her grabbing for something before jumping in his seat, startled. His eyes shot towards her legs, he had picked her dress halfway up her leg.
"Sorry, sorry accident. I didn't realise... I sorry" Asad apologised holding his hand against his chest. He mentally hit his head against a wall. He was so used to grabbing for Zoya's chocolates once they sat down to watch a movie, he didn't realise Helena hadn't purchased any because she was on a "diet".
Zoya marched from one side of the room to another wondering what was happening inside. As handsome and confident her friend might be in college, when it comes to his dates with hot girls, he turns into this shy innocent kid she has to watch over and guide. Her best friend was basically an idiot. She wasn't very fond of miss hoity toity who he was watching a movie with, but for her friend's sake, she had to plan all of this. She lied to their friends that she was unwell and wanted to stay at home. They all wanted to go out but she was stuck here waiting for Asad's signal for help. She held her head as she continued to stomp from one side of the room to another. She felt someone's tap on her shoulder; she shrugged it off feeling irritated. She felt a tap again,
"Not now!" She brushed it off again. She felt it again but this time she grabbed it and turned around to punch the person disturbing her. Her mouth opened wide finding Ayaan and the rest of the gang stood there confused.
"Hey buddy!" Ayaan waved removing his finger from her grip. "I thought you were unwell" He raised his eyebrow.
"Ahem, ahem... cough cough" Zoya pretended to cough making all sorts of noises; she shook her head indicating the seriousness of her illness. "What are you doing here?" She diverted their minds away from her fake illness.
"Well, we came to watch The Intern" Asiya held some tickets up, "Here's yours just in case you and Asad decided to join us" She passed the tickets over to Zoya who stared at them.
"No no come on, Ayaan you agreed to this? I thought we'd watch Legends. Let's go watch Legends instead" Zoya pulled Ayaan's arm towards the counter not wanting to disturb Asad's date.
"The girls won this one" Chung popped his head out from the crowd.
"The Intern looks good" Sameena nodded her head.
"Tom Hardy looks good" Zoya remarked. "Come on guys, please?" She blinked her innocent eyelashes.
"Only use those eyelashes trick on your BFF!" Amjad wrapped his arm over her shoulder and dragged her towards the theatre. Zoya gave up fighting her friends and let herself be dragged towards the theatre. Maybe this was a good thing; she can help Asad from inside. But then, Ayaan would probably mess the date up. She entered the room feeling thankful that it was dark.
"Let's sit here" Zoya pointed towards the middle row seats, she caught Asad's eyes on her. Those relaxed eyes turned wide seeing the rest of the gang. Ayaan would probably kill him for lying about this date to them.
"Why there? We have always took over the top row seats... what is wrong with you Zoe?" Chung pushed her up the stairs.
"Yo, Asad's here. There" Ayaan pointed catching Asad's head. "He's on a date?" He looked towards Zoya who placed her hand over her eyes; busted.
"So, is that how it is? Thanks for involving us Zoya" Amjad taunted from the back. Zoya shook her head.
"Stop being overdramatic Amjad." Zoya shut him up. Ayaan smirked at Zoya before skipping up the stairs. Zoya rolled her eyes knowing what was about to unfold.
"ASAD, buddy!!!" Ayaan pulled Asad up and hugged him. Asad sighed a breath of relief finding his friends by his side. The date was not going so well and the movie hadn't even started. "Hi Helena, you're here, you're here?" He repeated the question at Asad indirectly judging his decision on bringing her on a date out of the all the girls he could have gone out with.
"Ayaan... buddy!" Asad smiled, "Come join us" Helena's face fell flat. Zoya noticed her expressions. She eyed Asad not to do that but he made Ayaan sit down next to him.
"COME ON UP GUYS!" Ayaan shouted across the theatre making everyone's attention turn towards him. He motioned with his hand. They all joined his side, Zoya took daggers from Helena.
"Daisy, you're here." Asad tried to grab her hand to pull her into the same row as him but she moved past and sat down behind him. He frowned.
"I'll sit here. You guys, come on up here. Come on" Zoya eyed them to move out of their seats and they did as they were told. She watched as Helena pulled Asad's hand to sit down when he was about to protest.
"What are you doing?" Helena whispered to Asad,
"What?" Asad shrugged his shoulders.
"Why did you invite your stupid friends to this movie?" She glared at him questioningly.
"I didn- WHAT?" His head shot towards her. "What did you say?!" He asked her in a tone that indicated she shouldn't repeat what she said.
"Why is Zoya here?" Helena questioned. Asad breathed out.
"Daisy, you want some chocolates?" Asad got up and faced her. Zoya nodded; yes please. He walked away ignoring Helena's lingering question. Zoya watched as Helena's nostrils flared in anger. She was mouthing all sorts of sweets words in Zoya's praise. Asad came running back with bags of chocolates in his hand, his eyes went over Helena who smiled at him but he turned his attention to Zoya passing her the chocolates and the popcorn he brought back for her. He sat down feeling satisfied with a huge smile plastered on his face, Helena budged closer towards him. Asad laughed hearing Zoya whistle watching the advert for Legends come on, she was a die-hard fan of Tom Hardy's six packs. Helena closed her eyes in annoyance being able to hear Zoya in the background.
"Doesn't she ever shut up?" Helena muttered. Zoya raised her eyebrow being able to hear her. Asad glanced up at her knowingly. Zoya passed her munchies to Sameena before jumping over the seats and landing in between them. Helena squealed at her sudden movement and moved away in fear. Asad took her munchies off Sameena and held them for Zoya as she started eating. He shook his head in amusement.
"What the hell are you doing you idiot?" Helena burst once she calmed herself down.
"I'm watching a movie, with my best friend. Do you have a problem?" Zoya raised her eyebrow.
"WHAT?" Helena snapped.
"She's saying this date is OVER!" Asad waved at her before leaning back against his seat.
"What the hell... Asad. How can you allow this to happen?" She stood up and screamed down at them both. They held their ears and looked up at her casually.
"Well let me explain... you called me an idiot-"
"TWICE!" Asad pointed two fingers at her.
"Yes!" Zoya nodded, "And you're basically a stuck up little cow. And I don't like you. So BYEBYE!" Zoya waved at her. Asad shrugged his shoulders at her questioning gaze. Helena stomped away throwing curses at them. Asad and Zoya hi-fived each other.
"Didn't I tell you?" Zoya stuffed her face.
"I know Daisy, next time I'll wait to fall head over heels in love before I ask you to set anything up for meh" Asad smiled eating the chocolates he brought for her. Zoya elbowed him to which he groaned in pain.
"After all my hard work. I almost fell ill cus of you"
"HOW? Are you okay? WHAT UP?" Asad fussed feeling her forehead. Zoya pushed his hand away making a face.
"It's cus she pretended to be ill in front of us so that she could come here and help you" Amjad explained. "It's okay, we forgive you." Everyone stared at one and another before bursting out laughing. "Asad, you going to hold Zoya's hand when you get married and go on your honeymoon?" Zoya started coughing up her popcorn. Asad rubbed her back trying to calm her down.
"Why are you crying yaar?" Asad wiped her tears, Zoya hit his hand away.
"Romeo, please stop it. And Amjad, I will knock you out." Zoya threatened Amjad.
"Yaar shut up, of course Zoya will be there. She's offended now." Ayaan teased. Asad brushed his hair back laughing.
"She's gonna be my best man" Asad declared. Asad and Zoya knuckle touched each other.
"And you're going to be my maid of honour" Zoya smiled. Everyone burst out laughing, these two are inseparable. The thought of both of them being married to different people sounded weird because they both needed to be together, always. Asad was overprotective of Zoya, taking care of her and protecting her. Zoya was Asad's angel in disguise who always encouraged and supported Asad with every decision he has ever made. Asad was a very handsome hunk, it was impossible for any girl to not fall for his charm. He was a gentleman in every sense, but he had that naughty streak in his character. There wasn't a single girl that isn't mad about him in their college, but it is only Zoya who knows him up close. It's just that, when it actually comes to dating girls, Asad has no clue what to do because he thinks he has to behave differently. With Zoya, he has been carefree and open. He cannot be himself when he is with anyone else. They were the best of friends that couldn't go without sharing anything with each other. But that was not always the case. Asad hated girls and Zoya could not stand boys with attitude, especially guys like Asad. They became friends in high school when Zoya saved his mother from getting crushed by a truck and landed in hospital with a broken leg. Asad, for the first time in his life brought a girl some flowers with a thank you note. And Zoya for the first time in her life, allowed a guy like Asad, to sign her cast. From signing her cast to engraving their names together on school desks. This was the beginning of their friendship. With time, they started knowing and understanding every imperfection in one another. They grew up helping one another to overcome their weaknesses, their bond got stronger and stronger. There was only person that they could rely on and trust blindly; each other. He called her daisy because the flowers he took for her were daisies. From that day onwards, she had grown to love daisies.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Are you coming or what?" Asad whisper yelled from the door. Zoya motioned for him to go away. She held three fingers in front of him.
"3 O'Clock" She mouthed back to him. Asad looked at his watch, there was still half an hour left for her class to end. He shook his head in a no rubbing his stomach. He was hungry and he wanted to eat. Zoya pretended to concentrate on the board. Asad waved at her but she refused to look at him. Asad removed paper from his backpack and scrunched it up. He threw it towards her but it hit the guy sitting next to her. The guy looked up towards Asad who was trying to get Zoya's attention. He glanced back and forth; Asad caught his eyes and showed him his fist. The guy gulped before tapping on her shoulder to get her attention. He stared at her wide eyed as she looked at him waiting for him to talk,
"WHAT?" Zoya snapped. He pointed towards the door; she moved her eyes towards Asad who was dancing outside of the door. She hit her forehead. This guy was too much. "What?" She mouthed.
"I'm hungry" He pouted rubbing his stomach.
"Go then" She motioned with her hand. He pointed towards her and shook his hand.
"Not without you!" Asad wrapped his arm around himself and shook side to side. Zoya pressed her temples. "You always finish early, why is this going on for so long. It's Thursday!" Asad shouted back at her. The teacher turned around and walked towards the door.
"What do you want Asad? Get away from my class" Mr Ghai scolded him.
"I want Zoya to finish" Asad told him. Mr Ghai gave him a look of disbelief. "Why have you decided to extend your boring class today?"
"Asad, don't push it. Exams are coming soon. She needs these lessons. Come back at 3 and take your best friend" Mr Ghai closed the door knowing Asad would insult his classes even more and he had no intention of arguing with him today. Asad looked up at the ceiling and blew out of his mouth. He sat down against the wall and rummaged through his bag to find something to snack on.
"BOOO" Zoya shouted in his ear startling Asad making him fall flat on the floor. Zoya burst out laughing, she jumped finding him getting up with the most serious of expressions.
"Daisy ki bachi!" Asad threw his backpack over his shoulder and ran behind her almost slipping forward.
"Come on Romeo, you gotta do better than that" Zoya looked back and grinned at him. She creased her eyebrows watching him point at something, warning her. "WHAT??!!" She tried to stop when she bumped into someone and fell back. She screamed as loud as she could bringing the hallway to a standstill. She slowly opened her eyes not feeling the hard ground below her, she felt like she was flying with someone's secure arm wrapped her waist. She blinked a few times meeting his eyes. His brown orbs had her captivated. Her eyes went over his lips as it moved but she couldn't hear anything. He lifted her up slowly and held her shoulders.
"Are you okay?" The guy asked her, she blinked at him tucking her hair back. She nodded at him, her cheeks burning her to death.
"Thank you" She whispered forcefully, her voice refusing to come out.
"You take care" He dazzled his million dollar smile at her. Zoya melted away, her knees waivered. Zoya's eyes went over his hand as he tapped her shoulder and walked away.
"Zoya?" Asad punched her shoulder, "Are you okay?" He eyed the guy.
"OUCH!" She rubbed her shoulder and punched him back. "Now I'm not." She pouted.
"You idiot, be careful. You could have gotten hurt" He grabbed her head and placed it on his chest.
"Asad, you're suffocating me." Zoya complained.
"Who was that guy?" He questioned staring at his retreating back.
"My saviour." She smiled. Asad's lip twitched.
"I'm your saviour though" He frowned.
"Come on, leave that. I'm hungry" She tugged his arm. He placed his arm over her shoulder.
"I could eat two burgers at once" Asad went off on one. Zoya looked back at her saviour with a blush; he looked back momentarily and walked away. Asad stopped noticing her attention was elsewhere. He followed her gaze. "What you looking at?"
"Nothing. Let's go. I'm dying of hunger!" Zoya diverted his attention.
"And you were saying I should go alone?" Asad taunted. But his best friend's mind was elsewhere. She was wondering who the guy was and why she had never seen him before. She was madly attracted to this handsome guy and wanted to meet him again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zoya had searched every inch of the college but the guy she bumped into was nowhere to be found. Asad has been trying to spend some time with her all day so that he could discuss some good news he received today but Zoya was too preoccupied to even glance at him. Every time he spoke to her, her mind was elsewhere.
She sat dejected in the library with her stack of workload. She thought she could divert her mind from thinking about those brown orbs she had been visioning since she bumped into him. She buried her head deep into her books.
"Daisy, I need to speak to you." Asad made himself comfortable near her. Zoya looked to her side and nodded her head.
"What's up? Wait, no ways. You got an interview at the university?" Zoya placed her hand over her mouth in shock. He creased his forehead.
"What, how did you know?" He asked her.
"Your face gave it all away. I'm so happy for you" She hugged him squealing, Asad hugged her tight. There was no other joy on this earth than sharing his happiness with his best friend. The librarian popped her head around and shushed her. Zoya bit her tongue and looked at Asad with tears in her eyes.
"I cannot believe I am telling you this in a library" He rolled his eyes. He shook his head, "Please shhh, I cannot see you cry" He wiped her tears about to burst into tears himself.
"These are happy tears idiot" Zoya hit his arm. "Why are you crying now?"
"Because you're crying" He replied in the most cutest voice ever. Zoya pulled his cheeks. "When is the interview?"
"In 2 days" He replied nervously rubbing the back of his neck.
"Oh shit. Okay calm down. Breathe breathe... what?" Zoya blinked at his horrified expressions, "Okay, sorry sorry. Listen you will ace it. You're my genius BFF. You will do great. Trust me they will love you" She placed her hand on his cheek and nodded. He placed his hand over hers and nodded back at her.
"I need you" Asad told her.
"I'll be right here, by your side." She pressed her eyes in assurance. "Come on, go get your bike. We are going to celebrate."
"But..."
"No buts. I am going to put all of this in my locker and grab my handbag. You go, I'm coming." Zoya pushed him. Asad reluctantly walked out of the library. Zoya gathered all her paperwork and rushed towards the door.
"Zoya?" Chung shouted from inside. The librarian shushed him.
"What, come on" Zoya looked back and motioned for him to come. In her rush, she bumped into someone and dropped all her work. The papers flew everywhere. "Shit, sorry" She kneeled on the floor to pick them up quickly. She watched the person get on his knees and help her pick up the papers. Zoya stared finding that same guy helping her. He handed the papers over to her.
"We have got to stop meeting like this" The guy joked.
"Sorry" Zoya held her ear. He shook his head laughing.
"It's fine. You're okay. That's all that matters." He got up and put his hand out towards her. She took it gladly and allowed him to pull her up.
"Daisy, did you-" Asad came back to find that corridor guy holding Zoya's hand. He slowly walked towards them, feeling something he didn't understand. Whatever it was, wasn't a good feeling. His eyes ran over Zoya's blushing face.
"You're Daisy?" The guy laughed. Asad was getting this urge to punch his guts out. Why? He didn't know. These weird feelings were growing stronger as he neared them.
"Zoya" She shook their already joined hands.
"I'm Karim, nice meeting you Zoya" He grinned, "I'll see you around" He winked walking past her. Zoya sighed. Asad narrowed his eyes stopping in his tracks. Chung grabbed Zoya from the back snapping her out of her thoughts.
"Where are we going?" He asked.
"You'll find out, let's go. Asad, I'll grab Ayaan and Sameena" She informed Asad and walked off. Asad stared at her retreating figure and then at Karim. He wasn't getting any good vibes. He had this burning feeling inside of him. Maybe gastric problems he told himself. He shrugged it all off and walked outside with Chung.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Asad walked out of the building wearing his most serious expression. He tried not to smile finding Zoya waiting impatiently for him next to his car. He watched her biting her lips nervously as if it was her interview. He adored his best friend. The past few days have been weird but everything was fine now. The gastric problems were gone. He wanted to laugh seeing her march from one side to another. She always did that.
"Daisy... Daisy..." Asad tried to speak to her as she continuously moved. "ZOYA!" He grabbed her arm and stopped her from moving. She stared at him stunned, Asad put on his serious expression again.
"WHAT? Why are you staring at me? TELL ME!" Zoya snapped at him. She had this constipated look on her face failing to read his face or she just wasn't trying hard enough because she was that nervous. Asad shook his head in a no. Zoya burst into tears and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Tell me you're lying. Why? Are they idiots?" She chanted in between her sobs. She rubbed his back and held him tight to comfort him. Asad tried to separate her from the hug to calm her down regretting his joke but she just burst into more tears. "It's okay, you will get lots of other opportunities. It's fine. It's fine" She pulled back and almost fell backwards. Asad steadied her. "Should I go in there and knock them out? Should I? Tell me" Zoya rubbed her tears with the back of her hands about to fight the world for her best friend. Asad burst out laughing. Zoya stopped sniffing and froze.
"Sorry. Sorry" He tried to wipe her tears, she smacked it away still confused. "Daisy, they gave me the place" He cupped her face. She blinked away her tears. He nodded at her.
"Wha... what?" She asked innocently not understanding his horrible joke.
"ZOYA, I GOT THE PLACE!" He shouted into her ears.
"WHAT? OMG?" She placed her hand over her mouth shocked. Her eyes sparkled with joy matching his. She jumped up and down excitedly before hugging him tight. Asad lifted her up into the air and spun her around as they both rejoiced at their success. This wasn't just his win, this was their win. She let go of him and hit him. "How can you do this to me. I nearly died" She hit him again.
"Ow, ow Daisy. Please. Stop" He ran around his car as she chased behind him. He took a few hits before grabbing her arm and hugging her tight. "We did it!" He breathed out.
"We did it" She closed her eyes.
"Where are we going to celebrate?" Asad asked her while driving. She hummed while she thought about it for a while not wanting to reveal anything about his surprise.
"Asad?" Zoya spoke unsure.
"Yes Daisy" Asad spoke sarcastically. Zoya frowned. "Okay, yes. Go on..."
"I've got something to tell you..." Zoya started.
"That I figured."
"I've got a date with Karim tomorrow night!" Zoya spoke in one breath. Asad put his foot down on his brakes and brought the car to a halt. Zoya closed her eyes feeling the impact of the brakes. Asad stared at her in disbelief.
"And you were going to tell me when?" Asad questioned her.
"Erm, now?" Zoya put on her most innocent expression. She was dying to share this news with him as soon as Karim asked her out but she wanted Asad's interview to be over so that she could be happy all at once. "What do you think of him?" She asked him needing his confirmation. Asad felt his throat go dry staring into her hopeful eyes that were waiting for his answer.
"He's a nice a guy" Asad lied. "Have fun" Asad started driving off.
"Really? You're okay with this?" She asked him again.
"Of course, why wouldn't I be?" Asad shrugged his shoulders.
"Okay phew" Zoya relaxed against her seat with a smile plastered on her face. In her excitement, she misread her best friend's face whom she so well knew better than anyone, even himself. Asad glanced at her, feeling his gastric burning feeling coming back to him. What was this shit feeling? She was so happy, but for once he wasn't happy seeing her happy. He didn't know why he was feeling so restless, so selfish. He should be happy for her.
"Can you come over tonight? I need your help deciding on what to wear" Zoya clapped.
"I can't"
"No shush, you can. You know I don't wear anything without your opinion." She glanced out of the window feeling all sorts of emotions. Her best friend got a place at his desired university and she was going out on a date with the second hottest guy in the college. Obviously, her best friend Asad was the hottest dude in college. She didn't know how she felt at this moment in time, it has been a while that she has actually gone on a date. She was always busy setting Asad or her friends up. Asad gripped the steering wheel tightly just wanting to get home but he knew his day hadn't ended just yet.
Asad lay back on his bed in deep thought. He had been twisting and turning for the past hour in bed. He glanced at his phone; Zoya had been ringing his phone constantly for the past hour. He was meant to go over to her house to pick out an outfit for her date. Date. Asad kicked the air like a stubborn child not understanding why he was feeling so restless. He couldn't even enjoy his celebration meal earlier on. Just one thing constantly ringing in his mind, her date Karim. Her date. It was such an overpowering feeling that he wanted to rip his chest open and let it all out. He pressed his temples in frustration. What was wrong with Karim? Nothing his mind answered. What was wrong with him? Something his mind answered again. What is that something? Zilch.
Asad sat up, his head felt heavy. He got up and walked out of his room grabbing his jacket from the nearest chair. Whenever something bothered him, he would ring Zoya and pour his heart out. But, for once, he felt that he couldn't do it. He wanted to talk to his mother but she was busy with his father as they lay in each other's arm watching TV.
"Ammi, I'm going out" Asad put his shoes on and opened the front door.
"Say hi to Zoya's Abbu for me" His father Rashid shouted from behind.
"I'm not going to see him Abbu" Asad shouted back.
"Say Hi to Zoya then" Dilshad shouted. Asad closed the door behind him and breathed out. How did they know he was going to see Zoya? Was it that obvious? Well yeah, they were best friends but... Asad's brain had refused to work today. He got into his car and drove off.
Asad parked up outside Zoya's house and got out of the car. He was about to knock on but then realised it would be odd for him to turn up at her house at this time. He looked at his fisted hand and turned his back towards the door. This wasn't the first time he was coming to her house at this time, then why did it feel so odd all of a sudden? Asad went into deep thought. Shit. Was it okay for a guy to go over to a girl's house like that so late at night?
"But we are best friends. We have spent so many nights watching movies and all sorts. Why does it feel so wrong all of a sudden?" Asad questioned himself. He walked around the house and picked up a small stone before throwing it at her window. Zoya popped her head out in seconds as if she was waiting for his signal.
"YO! WHAT TOOK YOU SOOO LONG?" Zoya scolded him. Asad shrugged his shoulders. "Why aren't you picking up my calls?" Asad shrugged his shoulders again staring at her. "OKAY, COME ON UP. Asad, are you listening to me. HEYYY ROMEO!!!!!" Zoya waved trying to get his attention but Asad stood rooted to his spot staring up at her. She grabbed her perfume bottle and threw it down. Asad dodged out of the way.
"RAHHH! You want to kill me and replace me?" Asad wiped his shoulders. Zoya looked at him confused.
"Replace you? WHAT? Asad, come on up please?" Zoya pleaded. Asad nodded before grabbing the drain pipes and started to climb.
"Asad stop trying to play Romeo today, use the front door. OI, becareful. Asad AHHH!" Zoya fell back as Asad tried to jump in through her window and took her down. She slowly opened her eyes and stared up at him on top of her staring down at her. His eyes conveying so much that she couldn't quite understand what they were portraying.
"Hey buddy!" Asad smiled down at her moving her hair away from her face and tucking it behind her ears.
"HEYYY!" Zoya smiled widely at him, showing off her dimples. Asad's eyes refused to move off her face as it admired her every detail. Her eyes were so beautiful. Her lips were so perfect. Every feature on her face was defined. She was perfection. Asad's thumb brushed the tip of her nose. "Tenk youuu!" She pressed her eyes. Asad slowly got up before helping her up. He coughed trying to regain his composure. He didn't know what he was doing. He walked towards her bed and fell flat onto it.
"Shall we get this party started?" Asad turned on his back and placed his arm under his head looking up at her. She nodded. "Where's the popcorn?"
"SHUT UP ASAD! This is serious." Zoya threw a pillow towards him. He caught it and placed it under his head. He held his thumb up at her. Zoya grabbed all her dresses and rushed into the bathroom. She walked out a few minutes later in a long red bodycon dress. She fidgeted with her curls and tied it up into a messy bun. The dress flowed to the ground, hugging her tightly in all the right places. It was slightly off her shoulder covering most of her arms, the sweetheart neckline added to the beauty of the dress. Asad sat up instantly, his mouth wide but the popcorn refused to go inside his mouth. He blinked admiring the girl in front of him, his best friend, looking as stunning as ever. She looked so ethereal he himself was unsure whether she was real. He had never seen her from this angle. She was always beautiful in his eyes but today, she surpassed everything. He had never felt like this for her. He never admired her like this before. Asad felt something for her. He felt something that was so strong for her that he failed to name it. What was this feeling?
"Zoya, that dress..." He whispered.
"What?" She turned around making him go breathless. "What do you think?" She bit her lips nervously.
"Absolutely beautiful" Asad nodded at her, his eyes twinkling. Zoya's face brightened up instantly getting the thumbs up from him. She ran towards him and hugged him. He fell back onto the bed, his hand trailed up her back before holding her tightly. Her petite frame fit perfectly in his arms. So perfectly that he was wondering how he has never noticed before. He nuzzled into her neck holding her tightly against him not wanting to let go.
"Thank you" She whispered into his ears. "I love you." Asad let go hearing those words, Zoya slowly moved her head back and looked at him with a smile. He blinked at her realising he was in love with her. It was love. He was in love with his best friend. She got up and pulled him up. Asad stared at her fussing with zip on the dress. He walked over towards her and untangled the zip before turning her around. He cupped her face, Zoya looked at him confused.
"I I... I" Asad's voice refused to come out. How would he tell her that he loved her? She was going on a date with Karim tomorrow. She wouldn't need him like he would need her for a date. He didn't know how to tell her how he felt. He needed his best friend to help him tell his best friend that he loved her, like mad. His thumb brushed her cheek as he looked into her eyes. Zoya shivered meeting his eyes. She felt electrocuted as every hair and every vein in her body reacted. She placed her hand on top of his arm understanding what his eyes were conveying but her heart refusing to acknowledge it.
"Goodnight" He kissed her forehead, lingering his lips against her skin. Zoya closed her eyes wanting to freeze this moment. It felt so beautiful. It felt so right. She's had many of these moments before with Asad, but today, today felt different. She opened her eyes feeling his body moving away from her, she blinked at him as he stared back at her. Asad turned around and jumped back out of the window. Zoya touched her burning cheeks and scanned her room. She ran towards the window and watched him leave. He looked back at her, Zoya's heart thudded faster threatening to burst out of her. He winked at her before running off. She walked back towards her bed and sat down wondering why she felt so weird. Her hand went over her stomach; what was this feeling? This feeling wasn't for her date tomorrow, this feeling was something else. She ran in front of the mirror and stared at her reflection. Her hand went over her forehead, she caressed the spot he kissed and brought her fingers in front of her and stared at it.
"Asad... what, I uh" Zoya blinked at her reflection.

Zoya removed her bag entering her English class. Asad straightened up seeing her come in; Zoya paused for a moment in front of the door. They both stared at one another, finding everything weird around them. She walked in slowly without moving her eyes off him, he smiled watching her come closer towards him.
"Dai-" Asad was about to speak to her when Karim's hand grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards him. Zoya bent forward awkwardly, her eyes occasionally glancing over at Asad. She saw hesitation in his eyes, cringing to hold himself together.
"Are we still on for tonight?" Karim asked her, grinning. Zoya nodded while her heart screamed no for some odd reason. "I'll pick you up at 8?" Zoya straightened up slowly with her eyes on Asad.
"Erm, Karim is it okay if I meet you there?" Zoya moved her eyes towards Karim. He nodded with a wink. Zoya smiled at him clutching her bag against her chest. She walked past him and sat down next to Asad.
"Heyyy" Zoya whispered softly. Asad was about to grab her into a hug but stopped realising it would be awkward. Zoya was anticipating the hug and was left disappointed.
"How are you?" Asad played with the pen in front of him.
"I think you should be asking me if I got here okay. You didn't pick me up, and you're sat here. Early and all. Asad, look at me. Look at me" She turned his chin towards her, Asad shrugged his shoulders. "Urgh, why do you keep doing that? Stop doing that and tell me what is up?" Zoya demanded.
"I'm dropping you off today, I'm guessing" Asad nodded towards Karim. Zoya blinked at him before realising what he was talking about.
"Yes" She answered. "Asad I-"
"Daisy listen, don't worry. I'll pick you up" He smiled at her with assurance.
"No I meant... I... I need you" Zoya whispered softly. Asad looked at her, his heart wanting to hug her tight.
"I'll always be here for you Daisy, no matter what. Always" He put his hand over hers. She placed her hand over his and held it tight.
"Okay, class settle down please!" Mrs Shah entered the class. "I have a task for you literature freaks." The class laughed. Zoya held onto Asad's hand not wanting to let go of it. She felt like she was bursting inside not wanting to let go of his protection. Asad brought their hands to his lap and placed his other hand overs hers. He didn't want to let go either. They both watched as Mrs Shah wrote "JEALOUSY" on the board in bold letters. Asad felt his throat go dry and his body tense. Zoya glanced at him but he refused to look at her. "We have discussed a lot of love stories in depth, but we never quite gone into analysing this emotion. This emotion is so strong that it makes people do crazy things. Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing is a classic example. But this feeling is not saved just for these non-fictional stories. It is so common nowadays with a lot of things. Since we have been focusing on love stories, we are going to focus on jealousy surrounding the concept of love." Asad wasn't liking where this was going.
"Ma'am, does sibling jealousy count? Like if one of them gets more love than the other from one of their parent. Can we discuss about that?" One of the student asked. Mrs Shah laughed.
"You got the idea Sameer, but we are focusing on love stories between two individuals. A guy and a girl." Mrs Shah explained, "Okay a quick task, write me a few lines down on what you would do if you fell in love with someone, but they were dating someone else or they were interested in someone else. What would you do? Would you tell them. Just quickly. A few lines" Mrs Shah sat down and brought her notes out. Asad stared at the paper in front of him and then at their joined hands. Zoya watched him go into deep thought. She looked over at the board, what would she do if she was in love with her best friend and he was in love with someone else? She, in love, with Asad? She obviously would be jealous. Obviously. But she wasn't though. Her mind refused to think about her situation with Karim.
"Asad" Mrs Shah called.
"Huh?" Asad and Zoya both looked up at her.
"I thought I should start with you. A best friend situation is the perfect example. You and Zoya are best friends" Karim looked back at them. "What would you do if Zoya was in love with someone else, and you developed feelings for her? Would you be jealous or be happy for her? If you were jealous, what would you do? Would you tell her? Would you risk your friendship ending not that I am saying it will end." Mrs Shah, being a teacher, threw question after question at Asad who stared at her like someone had shot him and ripped his wound open a thousand times over. He gulped not knowing the answer to her questions. He was in love with Zoya and he didn't know what he should do. He wanted to be happy for her, but the thought of her being with someone else made him wince every time he thought about it.
"I don't know" Asad answered truthfully, Zoya watched him. "She has been my best friend for a very long time; I always needed her help when I wanted to express my feelings." He met her eyes. "If I fell in love with her, I would need her help to tell her." Zoya smiled. "Jealous. I would feel jealous. No doubt about it" He looked back at Mrs Shah, "I wouldn't know what to do with my jealousy. I would need her to help with me with that. She is my best friend. If I ever fall in love, she is the first person I would tell. And when she is that person, well... I wouldn't be able to tell her. That I love her" Asad looked back at her. Zoya stared at him questioningly. Asad breathed out a sigh shrugging his shoulders. She made eyes at him not to do that. Mrs Shah smiled at his answer.
"Anyone else?" She asked the class.
"I would tell him that I loved him!" Zoya shouted at her. Karim looked back at her, Asad winced.
Asad parked in front of her house and shut his engine off. He longingly gazed up at the house.
"Hey, I'm outside" Asad spoke into his phone.
"I'll be down in 2 minutes" Zoya told him. Asad nodded and hung up on her. He didn't have the courage to speak to her any longer. He didn't know how he would manage dropping her off and leaving her with Karim. Was his heart that strong? Was his love so selfless? Would he be so unselfish if the girl he loved wasn't his best friend? Why did it feel so much harder that the girl he loved was his best friend? He remembered Zoya's words in the class, about being in love with your best friend should be the most comforting feeling ever. You should never worry about hurting them. You should never feel jealous because she would rather be with her best friend than anyone else. Because he would never hurt her.
He held his breath watching her come out of her house in her red dress. She looked absolutely mesmerizing under the moonlight. The light highlighted the necklace making it sparkle back into his eyes. His eyes ran over her face, admiring her every detail. Her plump red lips awakened all sorts of desires inside of him. He exhaled sharply before stepping out of the car and put his hand out towards her. She took it with a smile on her face passing her purse to him to hold.
"You look absolutely beautiful!" Asad admired her, Zoya pressed her eyes at him. She blushed under his gaze trying to stop her erratic heartbeats from giving away her state. "You ready?"
"Ready" She breathed out. He helped her sit inside the car before closing the door. He rubbed his eyes trying hold his emotions inside of himself. He rushed around the car and sat inside. He didn't have the courage to look at her as he drove off. Whenever they went anywhere, they would never get tired of talking to one another. But today, they both sat silently listening to each other's silence. Asad wanted to drive slowly not wanting to reach her destination. As he slowly parked up in front of the restaurant, his heart stopped beating momentarily. He closed his eyes and prayed for strength.
They both sat silently for a few moments not knowing what to do or say. He glanced over at Zoya sitting idly in deep thought, he admired her briefly. She looked like royalty sat beside him, how perfect this moment seemed. They were both together, like they were for such a long time. How he wished he could have re-winded back in time to cherish every moment he spent with his best friend and not taken her for granted. How much he wished he realised he loved her before Karim came into her life. Asad prayed for her silently, he was happy if she was happy. He would never stop praying for her happiness or caring for her or protecting her. He loved her, but he didn't need for her to love him back. Love has no conditions. He might not be able to spend those moments with her as her lover, but he wouldn't stop being her best friend. Yes, he wished he didn't feel like a green eyed monster sometimes. But, he will live with it. For his best friend. For their friendship.
Asad stepped out and walked around the car. He opened the passenger door, Zoya looked up at him with wide eyes. What they both saw in each other's eyes blew each other away. He put his hand out one last time; she placed her delicate one's onto his. He pulled her out bringing her crashing against him, his other hand wrapped around her waist. He held her in that position for a moment, cherishing her. Zoya closed her eyes breathing heavily. She placed her hand on his chest and rested her forehead in his arms.
"I'll always be your best friend." Asad whispered possessively. Zoya pulled back and nodded at him. He kissed her forehead before pushing her away. Zoya looked back not wanting to let go of his hand.
"Zoya!" She heard Karim's voice in the distant as he came out of the restaurant to greet her. She glanced over at him before looking back at Asad. He smiled at her.
"Go!" Asad whispered letting go of her hand slowly as she tried to hold on to the tips of his fingers. "You'll be fine." He nodded at her. He fisted his hand watching her turn her back towards him. He stood rooted to his spot waiting for her to reach Karim before he can drive away, far far away so that he could catch his breath. Zoya took hesitant steps towards Karim, her every step away from Asad making her anxious.
"What is wrong with you Zoya?" She chanted over and over again. She stopped walking halfway down the path and stared at Karim's smiling face. What was she doing? Zoya took a deep breath as realisations dawned upon her. She was walking away from her best friend. Her best friend. She took a step back remembering his words in the classroom. He needed her help to tell her he loved her. Asad loved her. How did she not realise what her best friend has been trying to tell her all these days. She failed to notice the change in his behaviour. He confessed he loved her in that classroom in front of everyone and she failed to acknowledge it. This anxious feeling, this feeling was because she was distancing from Asad. She needed Asad because she loved him. Her hands flew over her mouth. It was love. She loved Asad. That is why she felt uncomfortable setting him up with any girl. She was jealous because she loved him. She looked up at Karim, "I'm sorry" She mouthed before turning on her heels. Asad couldn't watch any longer and stepped back towards the car.
"Asad!" Zoya shouted stopping him from taking another step away from her. His head shot towards her alarming voice. He watched her running towards him; he turned his body towards her confused. Zoya's eyes teared up as she held onto her dress for dear life running towards Asad and leaping into his arms. Asad wrapped his arm around her before lifting her into air and spinning with her to steady his feet to hold them both up. He held her protectively as Zoya buried her face into his neck and broke into a cry. Asad held her tighter and swung side to side to comfort her and wondering what was going on. His eyes suddenly went over Karim who walked back inside the restaurant. He caressed her back continuously.
"Zoya, what's wrong?" He tried pulling her back and holding her face but she refused to let go. "Heyy shhh. What happened?" He tried to comfort her.
"Asad, please take me away with you." She whispered into his ears.
"I will but first tell me what's wro-"
"No no, take me away. Please?" She begged him. He pulled back from the hug and nodded at her. She smiled at him pressing away a fresh set of tears. He brushed the back of his hands on her cheeks to wipe away her tears shaking his head side to side. He protectively placed her inside of the car before rushing around and driving off. Where to? He didn't know but for now he wanted to go along with what she was saying. He glanced over at her every moment or so.
"STOP!" She spoke suddenly. Asad hit the brakes and stopped the car. Zoya yanked her seatbelt off and jumped out of the car. He did the same and followed her out of the car.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Asad asked her worriedly. She didn't stop; she carried on pacing towards the greenery. "Stop, listen to me. What are you doing? Why are you taking your heels off? Zoya, wait." He called out behind her as she struggled to move in her dress. He ran forward and held her shoulder to stop her from moving. He placed both of his hands on her shoulder and faced her. "Where are you going? Why did you not go with Karim?" He questioned her.
"Because I didn't want to." She replied looking up at him.
"Why?" He whispered softly. He was tired of everything. He couldn't take this any longer.
"Because of you." She told him. Asad creased his eyebrows in confusion. She punched him in the stomach making him step back and grunt in pain. He looked at her in disbelief.
"What did I do?" He asked her, hurt.
"Because of what you didn't do."
"WHAT?! What is wrong with you. Tell me clearly, I don't understand what you're saying."
"Come here" She motioned for him to come closer. He hesitated for a second thinking she will knock him out. She warned him, he stepped closer towards her. He watched as she lifted his hands and placed them on her cheeks. "Come on then..." He adjusted his hands and cupped her face stepping closer towards her. "Now repeat after me..." Zoya told him.
"Zoya..."
"Daisy..." Asad smiled. Zoya rolled her eyes.
"I..."
"I" He repeated.
"Love"
"Love" He repeated, his heart thumping inside of him.
"You" She finished.
"Daisy, I love you" Asad whispered. She moved his hands off her face.
"Was that so hard?" She questioned. He shook his head in a no. "Well?"
"What?" He replied meekly.
"Should I get Karim to kiss me?" She raised her eyebrow, smiling. His hands wrapped around her waist protectively pushing her closer against him. His thumb brushed her cheeks before trailing them over her lips. He admired her every detail, shaking his head in disbelief.
"I love you, you crazy crazy crazy girl" He laughed.
"I love you too" She whispered back at him, "I love you my best friend forever" She pressed her eyes at him. Asad sealed his lips with hers, she pressed harder against his lips as raw desire took over every inch of their bodies. Her chest burst open with a new sensation, a feeling surpassing any kind of butterflies she might have ever experienced as she felt goose bumps appear over every part of her body. Asad smiled rubbing his lips against hers and angled his head to one side moving his tongue deeper into her mouth. Zoya jumped onto her toes sliding her hand upwards and tangling her fingers onto his hair. Neither of them wanting to let go, tightened the hold on each other deepening the kiss further. They both felt intoxicated by each other's taste, this moment was something they were yearning for. He traced over her bottom lip a few times before finally playing with her. They didn't want to let go but both pulled away reluctantly gasping for air. He placed his forehead against hers and closed his eyes.
"I can't believe I'm in love with my best friend." Asad whispered. They burst into a laugh remembering their talks sometime back regarding their weddings.
"Don't tell me you're going to need my help saying Qubool Hai?" Zoya teased.
"YUPPP! We're doing this through Bluetooth" Asad lifted her up into his arms and walked off swinging her side to side. She wrapped his arm around his neck.
"I feel so much better. I thought the green eyed monster would turn me completely green" Asad laughed.
"Thanks to me. Why do I have to do everything? Fix up Asad..." Zoya taunted as they both started arguing about how they were going to tell everyone. Not that it is going to be a surprise to anyone. But their best friend to lovers transition was going to be quite fun. And they couldn't be any more excited to love each other more than they already did.
XOXOXO
