Cry me a TRP over Guls interview

Extract from Gul infamous interview over the weekend:

Tell her that such melodramatic turn of events have become common on the small screen, and she dismisses it saying: "It's rating well. We are catering to masses who do not identify with high-class realism. They need to see high-voltage drama and emotions."

I love QH but when I had read @ bold / underlined phase I was a little hurt and upset as it was a rude awakening that all the hrs I spend analyzing QH is of no significance as what I like and not like as viewer does not matter to the PH and they don't give 2 hoots about my opinions!

However after sleeping on it overnight I realized that it's not the PH fault for the real issue is of how TRP's are calculated ' The system is old and out dated or the sample size is too small. Who are these masses?

And do they spend hrs after hr like I do on IF and other social media sites of QH as a fan?

Surely not!

So how do I become part of this "masses "

I do want to get my voice heard?

At home we have subscribed to Zee for my grandma (who comes over on the weekends) but daily we do not bother to PVR (record) QH when it airs. I just religiously watch it online (and often multiple times) every day and therefore I am not considered to be a TRP viewer (and I totally resent that).

The channels have started to understand that TRPs are not correct and TV is not the only mode from where their content is viewed ' IMO as smart TV's become more popular in the future there will be one platform for content. However until that happens and TV channels get over the fact that the business model as they know it is changing; we the viewers and producers have to accept the reality of things.

Unfortunately the TV producers do not have the luxury like Karan Johar to say ' the movie is targeted for the youngster or the NRI. A channel makes money on advertisements and to advertisers TRP matter. So therefore the PH hands are tied but to keep the channel happy. In a way we are lucky that 4 lions does understand that the way things are currently is not correct ' Fortunately IPKKND's popularity in social media did not leave such a bad taste in their mouth that they stopped interacting with their viewers online (after all no other PH does that). They continue to maintain F32, YouTube, face book and Google + account for us the non TRP audience who are actually more verbal in our criticism than praises ' after all the max a TRP aunty can do is change the channel 😆but we can spam them like there is no tomorrow from various accounts and make their lives miserable😳.

I ask myself if I was in their shoes is it worth it? And my answer is HECK NO (can't use explicit words due to Ramadan) ' but fortunately that's what makes Gul so amazing ' she understands that even though she needs to keep the TRP viewers happy for business purposes - it is us the NON-TRP viewers who are the diehard fans and thus when SBS /SBB is banned on sets we get BTS and articles.

So yes ' I am not part of the masses ' I don't even think the channel knows who these masses are! It's probably the "who char logg dusre ghar me" that even SJ hasn't figured out yet who they are (as mentioned in the Iftari BTS) but thank you Gul for not disregarding or ignoring me a NON TRP viewer whose sole purpose of buying an I-pad was to be able to watch QH at work during lunch and write on IF during long train rides back and forth from work!

PS: In your next meeting with the channel please pass on this recommendation to them:

Currently Zee blocks all episodes of QH due to copy right and their YouTube channel is not available in north America, London or Canada ' When I read that they got 103k views on YouTube for Asad's confession ' I could not resist rolling my eyes ' think how much bigger view count would have been if the entire world could see that video without having to change their IP addresses?

If zee is a part of youtube partner's program then Zee would know the exactly age and geographical demographics of its audience and also get money from YouTube as a partner and its advertisers. Additionally our comments and number of views would be a direct indication of what we the viewers like and not like. Think of all the revenue star plus has lost and ismailvegamze and other have made from uploading Arshi /IPKKND videos on YouTube? Zee should definitely learn a lesson for QH is getting to be just as popular as IPKKND.

So far I think colors TV is the only channel (coz they are newer and probably have younger generation of execs) who have realized this ' they upload all their shows on their own channel and make it available 24hrs after the episode has aired around the world. They earn revenue from YouTube and save money from hiring companies to either pull down videos due to copy right issues or to do surveys on consumer likes or dislikes as they can directly read the comments for the video themselves!

Thank you once again for your time and patience ' this week neither of you (channel or PH) can do no wrong as finally you guys are getting Tanveer out of our beloved ASYA's lives👏

Sony makes their episodes available as well on youtube. Not sure why others are afraid to do the same. It will just help their show be more popular... especially if people start watching in the middle and want to catch up.

Awesome post. Very well written! I watch QH on TV in the US on DVR (record), but it still does not count towards TRP, does it?! 😊

Thank you for the compliment - i typed it but could not decide if i should post or not as its kinda of a boring topic but i felt strongly about it so decided to go ahead and post it!

Nope ur DVR does not count either- i have friends and family in India who also watch sometimes online or repeat telecast so its not counted during the prime TRP hrs - IMO its myth of what the old TRP aunties like and so the old formula is used non stop by channel / PH

If anyone has watched the pakistani drama called Zindagi Gulzar hai which reached a TRP of over 7 and 8 over the last few episodes will realize that the audience taste has changed and the medium is a lot larger - channels and government are scared of the change and what it means to them!!

News paper industry is adapting to the change and TV channels need to get on board as well!!!

Yeah - i am in the same boat as u😆

And i want my voice heard - the fact that i watch online is for the convenience - not coz i want to watch it illegally - we have subscribed to zee (it was a super cheap deal).

I dont get why net flicks can show hindi movies but no dramas? What are the channels so scared of? Why can they not look at the glass half full rather than glass half empty?

Thank you - i agree. Even StarPlus who has great international market coz they do shows in UK etc. ensure that 5 mins of each episode it available on their channel to get the viewers hooked.

The content that they provide stating it is all due to TRP aunties - and disregarding my likes and dislikes is what upsets me. I also feel Zoya is very much like me but when they start to show OTT unrealistic track of bari bi under the bed i get😡. 😡 Show the track but logically - in the huge house Razia could have hidden her somewhere more respectful!

I started watching Qubool hai 2 weeks ago.
I had to go through the trouble of finding written updates and read those because videos were so hard to find. Luckily i was able to find all of them eventually and watch them. Now I'm a US resident who dorms at the university. It's safe to say that satelitte dishes are not allowed on campus and I can't even get Ztv if I wanted to. Like you I am a daily watcher of Qh and spend hours upon hours on sites for t he show. Aparently im not the masses either
