Chapter 1
She stared at the line of luminosity the moon made on the water. Nothing could be more splendid but for the first time she could not take in its beauty, its splendor. But she kept staring and staring at something beyond. The stream was unusually silent or perhaps she was too oblivious of her surroundings.
She sat at the only recliner in the sun room facing the hills. The only light came from the moon; shining brightly at the hill top.
Her eye balls make no motion but still two crystals roll down her cheeks and land on her lap. She finally gazes at her lap, and stares at it in shock, it was empty. Her ears ring with cries, cries of an infant, a newborn, a seedling. The cries just keep getting louder. She looks here and there in desperation but remains unable to find the source of the cries.
She gives up, places both her hands on her ears to avoid the voices but they just wouldn't go. Muted cries escape her mouth as she weeps and weeps and weeps in sheer pain.

The bolt of the door turns and the door opens. Asad dressed in milky white casuals enters and sluggishly makes his way to the bed. He leans on his side of the bed, his head resting with the crown of the bed. He desperately tries to ignore the vacant side beside him.
For two weeks now Asad and Zoya have been living under the same roof as two strangers. Avoiding each other, both over taken by grief but unable to face each other.
Sleep was impossible for him, he gets up with a jerk and paces towards the window. He slams his fist on the pane which rattles for a moment. Flames burn in his eyes as he stares out at nothing in particular. After a long point in time his expression softens a bit but nothing alleviates his intense stare.
Flashbacks:-
Asad enters the house which is dripping in darkness. He calls out,
"ZOyaa!"
No response.
He slams his laptop on the couch and gets rid of his neck tie and blazer, tossing them on the chaise longue as well. He calls out again.
"Zoyaaa!"
This time a little louder, still no response. He frowns.
"where is she?"
He checks in the kitchen and then in the bedroom on the ground floor. She wasn't there. He climbs the stairs and checks all the rooms n the first floor. Still unable to find her.
"Zoya?"
He calls out. He shakes his head he had checked everywhere except for the sun-room.
"How can I forget her den?"
He smiles shaking his head and makes his way to the sun-room. It was also empty. He frowns.
"yehan bhi nai hai."
He says in confusion the same moment his eyes fall on the stream from the glass of the room. He sighs. There she was sitting beside the stream.
He runs out of the house towards the stream at the back of the house.
--------------------------------------------
Her head turns with a jerk as she hears the sound of footsteps on the gravel behind her. Her eyes light up seeing him. She gifts him her ever precious dimpled smile. He smiles back and opens his arms for her. She readily accepts his embrace.
"When did you come?" she asks with her eyes closed.
"Just now." He whispers in her ears pulling her close even though there wasn't even a mm left between them.
A while passes and he loosens his grip but she tightens her further. He smiles asking, "Aj kuch ziada hi payar hi a raha hai?"
"hmmm"
"Ku? What's so special today?"
"Everything."
"Acha?" he frowns.
She finally pulls back.
"Hungry?" she asks.
"Starving." He answers.
"come I've made your favorite food."
They walk inside the house.
"Did you eat?" he asks.
"no."
"why?"
"was waiting for you."
"I've told you not to wait when I am late."
"I know. But I didn't feel like eating alone."
They reach the dining hall. Asad goes to freshen up while Zoya sets the table.
----------------------------------------------
He fixes another spoon full of rice in his mouth.
"you are getting better at this." He compliments.
"I know." She smiles and gets back to her food.
He keeps staring at her. She looks up after a while and finds him staring intently at her. She frowns and raises an eye brow in question.
"Is it just me or you are really getting more and more beautiful every other day." He asks dazed.
Zoya stops midway with her food and smiles broadly.
"No my dear its not only you'''Its normal with expecting women."
His smile fades as he thinks he missed something.
"What did you just say?"
"what did you just hear?"
"I think'.. I heard 'expecting'."
"yes you did."
He stares at her in shock, the spoon from his hand slips and noisily lands on his plate. He shakes his head, his eye balls giving the no-way look.
"I did?"
She nods. He gets up abruptly and takes her in his arms.
"What are you doing Asad?" Zoya asks in surprise.
"Did I just heed you are expecting?"
He in an amalgamated feeling asks again in disbelief. Zoya laughs.
"Yes Mr. Asad Ahmad Khan, you heard that right'..now put me down."
"Never." He smiles the rarest smiles of his smiles.. "I just cant believe my ears, you don't know what you have just told me."
He spins around in circles blissfully like a young child after winning a soccer game.
Zoya laughs and rolls her eyes.
He then says, "I've always waited for this moment in my life."
"Really?... I thought only girls do that."
"whatever''.. I think aaj mein khushi se mar jaon ga."
Zoya laughs.
"Put me down first."
"Who is carrying you lady? I am carrying my baby. What can I do if he is a part of you for now."
Zoya giggled.
"Does that mean '.every time you feel like fondling with our baby you will do the same."
"precisely." He says indifferently.
Zoya looks at him with teary eyes and a blissful heart.
