Very well said. Beautifully analysed Vicky. They are both extremely vulnerable and emotionally damaged. They both know well to hide their deep rooted fears by putting up a facade. For Asad, it is in the form of denial and Zoe hides her worries and fear under the mask of her usual bubbly self. She fears rejection, hence she needs him to make him a first move and clearly spell it out for her that he loves her. Its her insecurity that prompts her to poke him or repeatedly question him if he actually means it regarding the engagement and if he cares for her.
Beautifully written, and absolutely true. They both hide behind their respective masks. Asad doesn't realize how beautiful love can be because his main example, his abbu and ammi, are separated and have suffered a great deal more than the time they were happy. Zoya has even more emotional damage, if you ask me, because she hides her pain even more than Asad. She smiles more and laughs and makes others laugh to deter them from prying into her monsters. But Asad is able to see through it, like you said, because he sees himself in her, in some respect. And Zoya I think also is falling for him because he her protector, and that's something she grew up without, since she never even knew who her father was. Just my take on the situation. if you think about it, it's a sad reality, that she falls for a man who is her pillar because she had none (a legit one, not like her Jeeju who was more of a friend) throughout her early life.
What do you guys think? :)

Asad is not emotionally challenged. He is what you call emotionally damaged. Its his weakness and not his vice. He will always be emotionally damaged. His relationship with Zoe and the twists in store for them will only worsen the damage. He is tortured and scared. Emotions terrify him because he believes they will never bring him or his loved one any happiness. He will suffer and make his soulmate suffer. He has seen the future since childhood. And he knows its coming up - he can just feel it. For him and for Zoe.Zoe is not childish or bird-brained. This effervescence is her refuge, her mask and her face to show the world. You take away her jokes and her humour and her vulnerability will be showcased to the world. She hides behind her own laughter. Asad cuts through that fortress and all her vulnerability and her need to be loved comes gushing forth. Its not being desperate as we, the normals, think. Its being desperate to find your way back home because everything is so dark and scary outside . Home. To Asad.Just saying. :-)
