Mary,
Its been ages since I watched The Proposal, so I don't remember the details of the scene you mentioned. If the scene had the exact same dialogues in English, with the puppy story, I'd call that plagiarism. 😡The creatives should come up with something different and better. I am with you, if that is the case.
What I appreciate about the track is the way they have brought in Dhurandhar Bhatavdekar- inspired by a character Utpal Dutt played in a comedy, along with Dolly. I mean, I am really impressed that they made a desi version. Hats off to them for the creativity that borrowed from the classics of Indian Cinema. I don't call that plagiarism, but inspired, or may be even transplanted.Whatever it is, it has a cute ring of old world in it. 😊
If you are having a problem just with the scene where DB interrogates them, isn't that the first Q a deportation Officer would ask? He will want to find out how genuine the engagement is. And I guess in any and every movie that has been made on this premise, this Q would be asked...the creativity is in how that Q was answered. If it is an exact translation, it was plagiarism, otherwise I'd call it inspired.😊
Editing to add:
I thought the Chicken Pox thing was a fab idea. I hope the movie did not have that! It was a wonderful surprise for me, because I always expect a lot from the team. And Zoya's dialogue:" I had Chicken Pox as a child, but then Mr. D wouldn't know about it!" 🤣
Look at the positives! Thanks for bringing it up, any way.
