Thats where comments like what Luckyforever made comes from.
Anyway...I dont think its stealing since everything that happened is not exactly like "The Proposal". Just my 2 cents.

That's fine. I can't account for how others react.

No faking engagment to avoid deportation is the idea. The dialogs and screeplay are how you express it. (Which was done differently by Gul)

And I used to be a TA and I wouldn't. And I've been published too. And my friend is a professor of English in the UK and she's desi, watches QH and wouldn't fail them either.

Seriously, just cause the two of them are posing as a married couple to avoid for her to get deported you'd charge them for plagiarism? I do not think you watch enough movies otherwise you would not make that claim. If they copied scenes and dialogues YES, then you can, but not an idea. It's not an original idea.

Nothing wrong with faking engagements, that's covered in many shows. You are right that it cannot be copyrighted and it isn't.

Then your students are lucky. We have strictly disciplined many for paraphrasing another's idea. Btw the idea was not to one-up.

As an aside, I think it is very interesting how I am being discussed in the "problem users" forum just because I decided to take a view of the show that did not shower them with praise. I did it respectfully thinking that a forum allows for all kind of views and was awarded with personal attacks yet I am the one who is being discussed there.

You have absolutely done it respectfully and I it is absolutely uncalled for that people are being rude. I do agree with you in parts but I have to agree with people who have said the idea itself cannot be copyrighted and that is all Gul has used. The Proposal, as I said in my previous comment, also is not an original idea...it was just told in a different and amusing way and that's exactly what Gul is doing. She is taking an idea and interpreting it the way she wants too. I do see the similarity between and I hear what you are saying there but logically (or as logical as Indian shows can be) immigration officers will check up on people filing for such a visa especially so close to their deportation date so that in itself can't be copyrighted either. Just my two cents.

No, they are not.

Seriously you cannot call this stealing - it is NOT an original idea to have been stolen. I don't think you quite get it - this is not STEALING or PLAGIARISM.

Clearly QH is not a forum but a fanclub because god-forbid you call them out on something or point out bloopers. I will only come back when I have heaps of praise for QH. Till, then back to the forums.

A couple of years ago there was a drama where a couple posed as a married couple and the courts would visit periodically to check up on them to see if they were posing as a married couple. Also, In Ang Lee's The Wedding Banquet, Wei-wei, the lead character, loses her job and needs to marry a legal citizen for a Green Card.
