EDIT: So yesterday a lot of people were angry that I made such a huge claim about stealing and plagiarism. But after hearing today's dialogues (which matched proposal story scene linked below), I hope you can see where I was coming from. As many said, when you copy dialogues, that's when it goes from "inspiration" to plagiarism. It went there.

The dialogue is - room full of flowers with him kneeling in the middle and he suggested no, he was standing. The bickered in the same way too. The dog in park talk harked back to Kal Ho Na Ho a little, but that was dissimilar enough not to be plagiarism.

Not very original to talk of flowers and kneeling, you may add, but the dialogue in the movie is word for word the same. That shows that the movie was definitely used. It's not like the PH is not capable of writing a romantic scene on their own, they wrote that beautiful full circle scene with Asad remembering how he first saw her. So why the need to copy dialogues and scenes from another movie? You can write a deportation inquisition without copying another writer's work. Really.

Mary.

Yesterday's post:

While deportation is nothing new, the whole situation around Zoya's deportation, the immigration officer coming home, and the story of the proposal in the precap for Monday were copied from Sandra Bullock's movie The Proposal. The idea of deportation has no risk, happens and has been done many times. What is an issue is the copying of the scenes from the Proposal. Changing the dialogues a little doesn't make it any less of a copy in legal terms.

CVs, Gul described in the interview that you guys sat around brainstorming about the writing. While that scene is very nice, could you NOT have borrowed it from someone else's work?

Do you know what would happen if they sued you? You couldn't afford to fight against Sandra Bullock. Really expected better. Now many will flip out that I am being negative but the truth is the truth and if I didn't hold the CV team to a high standard, I would not have been disappointed. And I like this show a lot too, apart from the all knowing villains. I think it really picked up recently. They could have done the deportation thing without taking from someone else. I know the PH can do better. They have before.

And it may be a very small show compared to a Hollywood superstar but her company takes this stuff very seriously. As does all of Hollywood. How many warnings has Bollywood had in the past few years? They paid huge fines too, let's not forget. Gul's PH should stop right now and carry this on with their own brains rather than stealing someone else's work.

"Inspiration" or paraphrasing are pretty words for plagiarism. Let's call it what it is - STEALING.

VIDEOS, this is the proposal story I am talking about which will show you why I feel this way about the precap. Other scenes will also show you the parallels. The dialogues are not the same but you will see the similarities.

Mary.

I am sure the moderators can decipher between what is bashing and what is criticism.

As Zoya Akter said, you know it when you do it. So this is on the CVs' conscience. If they feel any guilt, then they will know they have borrowed a tad bit too much. If they don't, then they can sleep peacefully with the thought that they were "inspired." Just like they think that dwarfism is something funny to be laughed it through comedic scenes. Hey, that too has been done before, so who cares how hurtful it is to people who suffer from dwarfism?

I was asking the CVs, don't know why members are getting so offended I said something negative about their beloved show. Last time I checked, this was a free-thinking forum much like IPK.

urm, well I think many of us predicted it was going the proposal way before it happened... and frankly.. I know a lot of people WANTED it to.. including myself. if you see this thread: AWESOME prediction on im. Offi. CAME TRUE! many forum members expected it and were in support of it.

Now, I know it isn't original stealing movie ideas...and I agree with that point of yours but I personally felt that a the current track was a good idea because it brings a much needed comic relief that has been missing in QH for a while because of the MSK and Gudiya factory and Who is Zoya's abbu fiasco's. I am quite glad that Gul used the Proposal as inspiration for the current track because it HASNT been done on Indian television, it is a GREAT movie, and I think it will bring AsYa closer as a couple...

As for CV's being possibly sued.. well i dont think so, because they didn't COPY the movie bit by bit, nor is the STORY EXACTLY like the PROPOSAL.. it has inspiration from it.. with deportation, and fake engagement..but its not like AsYa are going to Alaska to meet Asads family, where after a few incidences, they will fall in love, and Asad will go to Zoya's office and propose to her 🤔.. because NONE of the actual story except the IDEA is taken

Agreed. Yes it indeed looks like being INSPIRED from said movie but to be honest this track has soo much potential. Can't wait for it to unfold now.

Sure it is great to watch and good for the show. But "inspiration" is just a nicer name for plagiarism and that is never okay. True it hasn't been done on Indian TV but does that make taking someone else's work right?

What?

It doesn't seem copied to me. QH has it's own spin on things. I suppose you could say that they might've taken INSPIRATION from The Proposal, but outright copying?

NA.

Also, I think your statement about them suing the QH CVs is blowing things WAY out of proportion! I can guarantee that premises similar to the one in The Proposal have been used MANY TIMES. Note - I said the PREMISE. The characterizations, situations etc. are all unique. If everyone started thinking like you, the well of ideas would run dry 😆

Plagarism is WORD for WORD exactly taken from the original 😕.. Gul has not taken WORD FOR WORD, dialogue by dialogue, scenario by scenario.. ANYTHING .. she drew inspiration from the idea of a couple faking engagment to keep the girl from being deported.. thats it. 😳 .. I consider it more like Paraphrasing 🤔

Students are FAILED and kicked out of schools internationally for paraphrasing like this because it is still plagiarism when you take someone else's idea. Trust me, I have a lot of background on this, I wouldn't accuse if there wasn't a strong basis for it.

Like I said, I understand your sentiments but I also have background in writing, im a fourth year college student here in the US, have had plenty of academic work and have been editing and writing for newspapers in schools... I know what plagiarism is 😳 and Im pretty sure Gul has not plagiarized 😆 😳

The Proposal was NOT an original film. We have seen loads of films and shows even in the UK where people have married others and posed as husband wife. Have you heard of the film "Green Card?" - Andie McDowell and Gerald Depardieu starer? Made nearly 16 years before The Proposal.

And it is only the concept of posing as a married couple to avoid deportation that makes the two films have something in common - other than that NOTHING else - because in this one, everyone knows they are faking it.

So the CVs are not stealing and as long as they do "ORIGINAL" stuff from where with Asad and Zoya, NO, they are not stealing.
