"You guys are getting engaged?!" Ayaan asked, shocked. Maybe he'd heard her wrong. There was no way these two could get married, without eating each other alive.

"No we're not" Zoya answered him, before Asad could reply "he just made it up to buy me some time, so that I could stay back in India and think of a genuine reason to get my visa extended"

"But why did he say you were going to get engaged?"

"I don't know. Ask him"

"Bhaijaan?"

"I- you should seriously leave, Ayaan" Asad said, all the anger gone from his voice.

"Mr. Khan. If you ask him to leave one more time, I swear I'll be the one leaving, not him. Say what you should be saying and let everything else go to hell!" Zoya cried. Asad took one look at her and decided not to argue. Thankfully, Ayaan's phone rang at that very moment and he was asked to come home, by his sisters. Asad knew he was going to tease him endlessly, later on, but for the time being, he was glad to see Ayaan go. But it seemed Zoya had lost her patience.

"Miss Farooqui, wait" he called as she stormed off towards her room, after exchanging her goodbyes with Ayaan. "Miss Far- Zoya!" Asad caught hold of her arm and spun her around. "Listen to me!"

"No, I don't want to listen to you. Why should I? Do you ever listen to me? When was the last time you actually heard me out, Mr. Khan? You never listen to me nor do you ever answer my questions. What kind of a person are you?"

"I don't answer your questions?" he asked her incredulously "Hell, when was the last time you answered any of mine, Zoya Farooqui?"

"You want answers? Fine. Ask me. What do you want to know?"

"What was Ayaan doing here?"

"Are you deaf? Didn't I tell you he was here because I called him?"

"Why did you call him?"

"You need to get your ears checked, Mr. Khan. I called him because I was bored!"

"Why didn't you call me?"

"I- what?" Zoya asked him, not exactly wanting to believe what she'd just heard him ask.

"I said- why didn't you just call me? I would've come".

"Are you even listening to yourself? You've been ignoring me for the past one week, hardly acknowledging my presence in your house and your life, and you expect me to go all 'pally' with you, just because I'm alone and bored?"

"No, that's not what I meant"

"Yeah? Then what did you mean?"

"Zoya, I-"

"What, Mr. Khan? You what? What the hell is wrong with you? Tell me why you keep pushing me away so much. Tell me why my presence doesn't affect you, why you don't seem to care whether I'm alive or dea-" Zoya was cut off mid-sentence, as Asad clasped his hand over her mouth.

"Don't you dare say that, ever again, you understand me?" he screamed at her, his eyes blazing with emotion. "You think I'm not affected by you? Zoya, the only reason I avoid you all the time, is because you drive me crazy. I can't seem to be in control of myself or my emotions, whenever I'm around you. You want to know why I wanted you to stay back? It's because I can't bear to see you leave me. I don't know what I'd do without you messing up the house every day, or reciting your nonsensical shayaris at every available opportunity. Why did I announce our engagement? Trust me, I've been trying to answer that myself, for the past one week. And I couldn't even come up with one sensible explanation to why I did it. And you think I don't care about you? Zoya, I care about you so much, that sometimes, it scares the crap out of me. I don't know what I'd do with myself if something ever happened to you".

Zoya simply stared at him, her mouth hanging open. Never had she expected him to actually answer her. Hell, she'd been waiting for the day when he'd actually say it, and now that he had, she couldn't believe it.

"What?" Asad asked her, annoyed at her lack of reaction "stop staring at me, woman, and say something!"

Zoya didn't reply. She just stepped forward and hugged him. She held on to him like she'd never let go. Everything she wanted to say, every emotion she felt, she let it all flow out. She wanted him to physically feel how much he meant to her because words simply weren't enough. And they never would be.

Asad was momentarily taken aback. A hug was the last reaction he'd expected from her. He was thinking more along the lines of 'that's all? You're emotionally challenged!' or maybe something similar. But the moment he heard her sob softly, he wrapped his arms around her, and held her close, stroking her hair as he waited for her to calm down. It was strange, but he could actually feel the tension leave her body, relieving her of all her doubts, insecurities and miseries. He knew how much this confession meant to her. His heart warmed at the thought that he was actually important enough for her to feel this way.

"Zoya, please don't cry. I can't bear to see tears in your eyes" he whispered, softly. Zoya let go of him, and stepped back. He caught her chin, and tilted her head up, so that he could look into her eyes and what he saw, made him want to kiss her, right there. She was happy. For the first time in weeks, he saw a genuine smile light up her face. It reached her eyes and made her look ethereal and breathtakingly beautiful.

"Mr. Khan, I'm-"

"Shh" he shushed her, placing his index finger on her lips. "I might have a problem with thousands of things and trust me, you are the reason behind most of them" he brushed back a lock of hair and tucked it behind her ear. "But, you are also the answer to all of my problems, Miss Fa- Zoya. I can't even imagine my life without you, anymore".

"Please don't ever do that again, Mr. Khan. Don't push me away. Talk to me, tell me what's going on in your mind, what you feel and why you feel that way. I'll always be there for you, trust me. Distancing yourself from me will only hurt us both, and eventually, the hurt's gonna grow so strong, that it'll become irreparable. Promise me, you'll never do it again!" she told him, and held out her hand. He took it without a moment's hesitation.

"I promise"

"Good. Now can we please go and have our lunch? I'm hungry!"

"Really? After all this, you want to have lunch?"

"I'm hungry, Mr. Khan!"

"But you're having pizzas"

"Yeah, so?"

"I don't like Pizzas"

"Oh come on, Mr. Khan! Can't you make an exception, just for one day?!"

Asad raised his hands and held them out in front of him. "Fine. We'll have pizzas".

"By the way, what are you going to tell Ayaan, when you see him next?" she asked him, once they were through. Asad mentally smiled at the image they were putting forward, right then. They seemed just like two old friends, catching up over pizzas and coke. It felt so familiar and so… right.

"I don't know. What should I tell him?"

"Well, you could say it was a 'spur of the moment' decision. And that your brainwave saved me".

"Yeah, like he'll believe that"

"Don't worry. I'll make him believe it, if he doesn't" Zoya replied, rolling up her sleeves in mock anger. Asad laughed. "I'm sure, you will"

"There's nothing on this planet that Zoya Farooqui can't do, Mr. Khan!"

"So you're still going to call me 'Mr. Khan'?"

"Allah Miyaan!" Zoya exclaimed "you have a problem with that, too?!"

So liked it?? didn't like it? Ok-Ok tha?? I hope i lived up to your expectations! i tried to keep it simple, without anything that we know we'll never see on screen, i.e a kiss or something more. i wanted to make it more believable... 😊
