Every wedding is a scene of forcing and violence and the positive characters are not given enough space to counter the negative views.
I'd like to see Qubool Hai challenge these wrong doings in the way Balikha Vadhu is...now that's a show with a strong social message.
I'd love for Qubool Hai to be revolutionary in creating new views of Muslims
And yes in this day and age when islam is under attack from every corner of the world it is vital for shows to represent muslims in a positive light...and not captur stereotypes the way Hollywood has been doing for years.
I think those of us disappointed were thinking this show would be working along the lines of Kingdom of Heaven or My Name is Khan

Don't you see that happening with Zoya's character? I think they are doing it - you just have to see it happening.

Aw. I'm glad you've said what you have because it's the truth and i completely understand your viewpoint.
Other shows may show negativity, murder, face change but religion is emphasized at being the root of the good that gets rid of these evils. However here religion is blamed for the evils and is never shown to cure them.
e.g we never see asad, zoya, any good character praying and seeking help from god as we see in hindu drama's
Nobody emphasizes through speech that the evil characters are going against Islam.
If this was just a love story...why did the makers stress that it was a show that would redefine islam or atleast muslims in the eye of the viewer?

That has not happened here. I have not seen the religion trashed or tarnished. You do bring forth a good point in that some shows show a lot in the way of religion and faith while this show has only shown Zoya and Asad praying. I thought it rather strange that no-one is shown either going to the mosque on a Friday or reading namaz.

However, the rest of the stuff, not needed. We all know evilness is against all religions.

Agreed that hindu characetrs are shown as negative too, but even that is wrong. Our dramas have intense negatviity in them which is why I prefer not to watch those shows because out of my 5 close friends, 4 are hindu.

If the problem is with negativity criticize it in isolation, without linking it with religion. This is a TV series and not a documentary to educate people about Islam or Muslims, then why such expectations? with views like these, I dont this serial surviving too long.

Two facts :
Fact #1- Right now, this is the ONLY drama on Indian TV with Muslim characters in it.
My opinion based on this fact : If something is 1 in a million or in this case 1 in 40-50 shows that air on Indian TV, then it is going to be looked at as something unqiue...something that stands out. What stands out IN that the show has Muslim characters so when you have only ONE show out of so many with a particular kind of cast then it is bound to be treated differently by some viewers. You cannot prevent that when the makers themselves are saying why it is different. When people get to see only one Muslim family and that too full of people with negative energy separating families, defaming their daughters, burying alive people, making people get into a nikaah by keeping them at gunpoint then it confirms some narrow-minded peoples' beliefs about how violent a particular religious group is. If you watch the news and live in the USA like me then you know what I'm talkin about! Now don't tell me that only the West has these views about Islam and it doesn't apply to India because this show is being aired in the two popular countries with a huge Indian population- UK and USA so what they think should matter to the makers.
Fact #2- Gul said she will change peoples' stereotypical views about Islam. For those of you sayng that the show is about Culture : ISLAM IS NOT A CULTURE. Look it up on wikipedia, it is very much a type of religion. Don't tell me she was talking about culture. It is a religion. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with bringing religion into the topic. She and her co-writer said the show was not JUST about two guys falling for the same girl, she said it would ALSO change peoples perception of Muslims in a GOOD way. I don't see that heppening and NO ONE can convince me otherwise.
For people saying that these problems and situations happen in ALL shows : I repeat, this is the ONLY show with a Muslim cast so shouldn't the problems and conflicts shown be something that is not shown in other shows?? Where is the uniqueness if we see the same issues that happen in other shows???? Show audiences the problems tthat they haven't seen in your previous shows or don't see in other shows. There have been many stories about families and there have been many love stories, but this is the only current show made on a minority religion so what is wrong with expecting that it will show issues that only Muslims face?? Trust me, there a lot such issues that only a particular religious group faces. Show the bad side, I am NOT saying it is a perfect religion, but don't keep reinforcin stereotypes that you set out to change.
Right now the majority of the West and some hindus in India think Muslims are violent.
Is that being shown? YES. It has been shown 3 times in 3 months.
Right now people think that girls are oppressed in Islamic culture.
Is that being shown? YES.
Right now people in the West think that Muslim men do not treat women properly.
Has that been shown ? OHHH YESS!!
SO how are the stereotypes being proven wrong??
If you watch the news, you cannot deny that the most mis-understood and hated religion in teh world right now is Islam. It really wouldn't hurt to show the beauty of Islam by having more positive characters who are the opposite of characters in other dramas.
Lastly, If India was a predominantly Muslim country and there was ONLY one show on a hindu family then if I was in ya'lls place, I would try to understand that the hindu population would have a lot of expectations from the show. Likewise, I have them too, and I wish you would understand that instead of saying that I am defending my religion or making exceptions for it. I am NOT. I am just trying to say that stick to the prupose. I wanna see a LOT of the love story, but makers, don't forget that you wee supposed to remove stereotypes, not solidify them.
Also, people saying that the show will shut down if I keep saying these things : SERIOUSLY??? Who do you think I am?? I have the power to shut down a show?? THanks for the compliment ( sarcasm intended), but as I said I wanna see KSG-Surbhi for a long time to come. I will forward all family drama like I did today just to see KSG and SJ.
P.S.- I cried after today's episode and am proud of the AsYa track ONLY so please don't ruin my mood by making personal attacks. Funny how the DT didn' notice THOSE. Whatever!

Bravo. Feel like giving you a standing ovation! 👏

Gul hyped this show wayy too much as being a MUSLIM show - with a DIFFERENCE. She now needs to deliver or gradually she will lose a certain demographic of audience. I am tired of Zoya being constantly brutalised in this show. As a muslim, it sometimes puts me off from QH for days.

Aw thank you for the appreciation. Yes, it was super hyped with the whole " I am Muslim so I will make this work for sure" attititude, and now I don't see what's going on. I forced my Mom to start watching it by telling her that it's gonna be awesome at representing Muslims and clearing misunderstandings and she LOVES Zoya more than me, but yesterday she said that she hasn't seen a single person in real life who is like the ones in Rashid's family ( which is more than half of the show's cast). She is tired of the violence and marriages not happening peacefully. Even the vilain in Gul's previous show was more entertaining and most importantly, more intelligent than ALL of the QH baddies put together 😆 Aww, Don't worry, just watch AsYa scenes, I understand how ridiculous the rest of the story has become for some people like you, My Mom and myself...especially now with the forced engagement that is to happen between Ayaan and Humera. *pukes* 😆

^^ You spoke my mind. I was mentally cheering you while reading the post! I like Asad-Zoya but in the context of the whole story. I cannot enjoy them when Zoya is put through Islamic patriachial hell every second episode. It becomes extremely disturbing esp when you can relate to a character.

I must be in the extreme minority in this forum - I watch the story precisely because of how it was initially pitched to audiences. I know many other people who watch QH with the hopes that it will show some positive Muslim content, but they have been left frustrated so far. QH is my first Indian show, will probably be my last as well.

Zoya has both spunk and vulnerability - something which is true for most Muslim girls born and brought up in the West (like me) and episode by episode that girl is being crushed. I'm not a Zoya fan but I somewhere see myself in her attitude and that shakes me and makes me mad so I simply switch channels. Allah ka shukriya, for the remote! 😆

Thank you Ashrun.
Exactly my thots! Too many evil people. And I dont care if it is an Indian thing or a Muslim thing--- Its always good to show a balance. Too much evil is hard to watch. If I want to know or be "educated' on such deeds. I' ll read the newspapers! My tv time is for me to unwind --not to get stressed out!
Having said that, I want to add that the actor is worth a watch anytime!

haha thanks, and you're not alone, dearie 😊 I mean I watch for the reason you mentioned and yupp, we sure are a minority in the forum. I mean every show should have a purpose and after mentioning the purpose repeatedly in consecutive interviews taken by the same website, writers should not contradict themselves. Yes, it's difficult when you can TOTALLY relate to Zoya...Are you American too?? 😊 Aw, I'm sorry it has disapointed you and frustrated others you know. Frankly, I don't have anything to tell you which will give you hope. I don't like it that much either, but I am hanging on to see more scenes between Asad-Zoya. You said this is your first show right?? TRUST ME, one thing Gul is good at is creating excellent scenes for the leads, enjoy them while they last because then she ruins it to the extent that I go from being crazy abt their scenes to switching channels as you said. I found myself doing that during the last 5 months of her last show. However, whatever good I saw of the leads was heavenly lol!!! The family drama even then was horrible and senseless!!
