Part two

Noori smiled nervously, "Jee.. kya aap humari madad karsakte hai? Humari bike kharab hogayi aur zara jaldi hume ghar pahunchna hai.."

Zoya stood there, her arms folded. She didn't expect to meet this guy again, not so soon.

Ayaan pointed a finger at her, "Bhai.. yeh toh wohi Dupatta wali ladki.. O madam aapne mere bhai ka naya kurta kharaab kiya.. Bhai! Ise hum lift nahi de sakte.."

Zoya bit her lip. She was about to mumble an apology when the guy, the stranger she bumped into spoke.

"Waise.. aapko is tarah anjaan logon se baat nahi karna chahiye!"

She flinched slightly. The guy removed his goggles and she found it difficult to meet his honest eyes.

"Par aap mujhe trust kar sakti hai... " he smiled slightly as his brother groaned.

"Bilkul trust karsakti hai!" Someone exclaimed from the back seat, as she sprang into the scene, "mera bhai Asad hai hi ithna pyara... "

Zoya smiled slightly at the girl. The siblings seemed friendly.

"Mera naam Aaliya hai.. aur yeh hai mera bade bhaiya Asad aur mera chota bhai jaan Ayaan.. aur aap?"

"Aaliya! Inhe pareshaan mat karo.. ab sab ko yeh bataane ki zaroorta nahi ki main kitna pyara hoon!" Asad commented.

Aaliye pouted, "Kya hai bhai.. yeh ladkiyan aap se madad maang rahi thi aur aap unke class lerahe ho?"

The girls antics amused her a bit, she smiled and replied softly, "zoya.."

"Zoya.." Asad repeated it and she looked at him, "chaliye hum aapko ghar chod aate hai.."

"Aap rehti kaha?" Aaliya questioned innocently.

She smiled and replied, "Chaderghat."

"Chadarghat? Are hum bhi wohi rehte hai.. chaliye bait jayiye bahut mazaa ayega.."

Zoya hesitated, "Shukriya Aliya..par hum nahi chalsakte. Hume yeh bike repair karvaana hai aur ghar pe patha chala toh Api ko acha nahi lagega ki humne kisi se lift maanga.. aap jayiye plzz.."

Asad kept staring at her, sightly baffled at her bluntness. Ayaan poked a finger at him.

"Ab chalo na bhai.. bahut badtameez ladki hai! Aap ithne ache banke lift de rahe the aur yeh hai ki.. "

Asad slowly increased pressure on the accelerator and with a last glance at her, he drove past the duo.

Back to the present :

Zoya was clad in bridal robes, bright colored lehenga with shimmering beads did nothing to cheer up her. She didn't know when the tears leaked from her eyes as she was lost in those old memories.

That day when Asad drove away, Zoya and Noori slowly made their way home after parking their bike by the side of a darga.

"Aagayi meri Pari? Kahan gaayab hogayi thi.. are Noori yeh sab teri nautanki hai, hai na?" Dadi caught the girls.

"Allah.. Oh sorry Dadi! Bas hum thoda havaa khaane chale the, haina Noor? Man thoda halka hogaya hai..yaha ki hawaa mein kuch toh baat hai.. " Zoya answered her honestly.

"Acha theek hai.. Tu mere saath hai, mereliye yahi kaafi hai. Ab tu aage chalke Hyderabad ki bahu rani banegi na, toh tujhe mujhse koi door nahi karsakta.. " Dadi was teary eyed, almost.

"Chodo daadi, ab ithna acha namuna kaise milega joh mujhe jhel paayega?" Zoya joked.

"Actually aaj koi mila hai.. Darga mein!" Noori giggled and Zoya glared at her.

"Kaafi acha that Dadi maa.. bechare ko zoya ne bahut pareshaan kiya.."

Zoya huffed, "uska bhai bahut akadta hai.. main kehto hoon, dono ek jaise hai! Ek bolta hai aur doosra sirf dekhtaa hai.."

Noori shrugged, "shayad.. par unki behen toh bahut achi thi.."

Zoya agreed.

"Are shaitan! Ab ladkiyon ki tarah raho aur anjaan ladkon se baat mat karo! Samjhi..."

Dadi chided them and they nodded.

When Dadi left to her room, Noori commented, "Zoya tumhe nahi lagtaa.. Asad kuch Dadi ki tarah hai.. 'anjan logon se madad nahi maangna chahiye..' "

"Honestly sabhi Indians aise hai.. kitni puraani soch hai sab ke.. " Zoya laughed.

The next day too gloomy thoughts surrounded her. Hyderabad reminded her of only one thing - the accident, the pain of loosing her parents. She decided she would go around the old city, just for a change.

Of course her Daddi first yelled, "Insha allah, aaj kal ki ladkiyan..." But eventually agreed and zoya stepped out.

Noori, her guide for the day had an exam and asked her to meet at Irani cafe by 11am sharp.

"Gyarah baj gaye.. ab yeh kahan gayi!" She muttered as she sat by a table.

"Kehte hai.. jo Irani chai peetha hai uska din acha chalta hai! Aapko chahiye kya Madam?"

Zoya sprang at once, taken aback by that familiar voice.

"Asad?"

He flashed a smile that faded soon, "sorry.. aapko pareshaan dekha toh socha kuch kehdoon..."

Zoya smiled at his honesty, "Ithni achi hogi kya.."

He blinked, "kya.."

"Iraani chai..."

He laughed, "ek dum perfect hoga! Oh Isman bhai! Ek Irani chai.. Nahi do Iraani chai jaldi!"

Zoya smiled again. It felt nice to smile, she was usually a cheerful person, with the accident thing forgotten in New york but being here again was like pouring salt into her wounds.

The chai was served. She was about to take a sip when Asad shrieked.

"Rukiye Zoya... abhi ek cheez ki kamee hai. Ye ijiye..."

Zoya raised a brow, "yeh kya.. biscuit?"

"Haan.. zindgi adhuri hai Issq ke bin, aur chai is khaas buiscuit ke bin..." Asad finished.

"Oh my god! Kitne ajeeb ho tum sab Hyderabaadi!" She commented.

He nodded, "ajeeb hai.. par dil ke sachhe bhi!"

She finished the chai.

"You were right.. chai.. achi hai!"

Asad smiled, "I know. aur mera treat...ok?"

She received Noori's text to meet her outside the Darga.

She stood up to leave. He was still drinking his tea.

"Asad Ji.."

He glanced up at her.

"Kal keliye sorry.. Aur aaj keliye, thanks. "

There was a brief silence. Their eyes met and for one second Asad could feel the pain hidden beneath her beautiful brown eyes.

"Its nothing.. " He told her.

She gave a tiny smile and left. He wanted to stop her, ask her what's wrong. But he couldn't.

(Back to the present)

Zoya din't know she was crying. Her make up would be ruined. But she couldn't just stop her tears. A matter of few hours. And she would be married. How she wished it was him!
Someone called her up and she brushed her tears.

"Hey Zoya.. I know, sab bahut jaldi horaha hai. I mean look at us! We fought like hell.. Aaj humara nikhah.. can't believe it.. I'm so happy. Hey Zoya.. r u ok?"

She couldn't answer him, "I'm okay.. Ayaan. " she disconnected the call.

~ A few hours later

The holy priest asked her, "kya tumhe yeh Nikhah Qubool hai..."

She kept silent.

Noori urged her to say the truth.

"Kya tumhe Qubool-"

"Mujhe yeh Nikhah Qubool nahi hai!" Zoya yelled, " mujhe maaf kijiye Dadi!"

She couldn't marry Ayaan. No way in the hell! Noori was right, marriage must be a reason for happiness not gloom.

She ran upstairs moving past the anxious, shocked faces of her family and Ayaan's family members.

Asad turned to Ayaan, "don't worry. Thodi pareshaan hogayi hogi. Aajayegi.. Noori! Jaao aur use samjhao.."

Noori just sighed. How could this guy be so dumb?

"Tumhareliye Ayaan perfect hai.. "

"Tum pathar ke bane ho kya? Tumhe dard nahi hota Asad?"

"Jab Dil ko ithne zakhm milte hai na Zoya... use pathar jaisa sakht banana hota hai... "
