If you watch the serial on TV, you still contribute to TRP in an indirect way.

Because that show airs Ads also.

You constitutes a part of target audience.

Whenever any show is produced, may it be film or serial, the producers think of the overseas / NRI's also.

(Because of Ad in case of serial.)

So don't worry, Shanthi, you are a legitimate LSV.

I am a legitimate LSV yes, but not one who's vote count when it comes to TRPs and a channel's decision to keep or can a show

I don't exactly know, how the outside India viewership is taken into account but I'm sure they are taken into account.

In this age of set top box anybody can count viewership from anywhere.

Remember the bottom line is revenue.

AK, from all I have heard or read... the TRPs are counted by a small no. of machines in a small no. of households... even the entire Indian viewership is not taken into consideration. So overseas viewers while important, play a very small role.

I just talked to my nephew who works for TCS, in their " Measurement Science " or something like that, division. Their main client is A C Nielson. I asked about overseas viewer. He told,

" ACN's media research div. will choose a representative sample size depending on size of the city, no of Indians etc. Then they will put something like a meter in those sample set top boxes and read it periodically. The figures will add up to TRP."

My friends in this forum from UK sometimes regularly reports viewership for a particular day.

so somebody is counting.
