A Night To Remember

Abhay clenched his fists,trying hard to control the unfamiliar emotions that were tormenting him from inside. He wanted to tell her..apologise to her..to..to..but..was that all?? No! he wanted answers..all those answers that didn't allow him to have a peace of mind even for a minute,during all these months!..he..he wanted his peace back and he felt only pia had the answers!!..
Kate was contantly jabbering, though abhay was seated next to her,but neither her closeness nor her words were having any effect on him. Though his eyes were set on the glass of wine,he was holding but his thoughts were far away.
Sensing the touch of a familiar hand,pia turned her face,and to her utter delight she saw it was none other than her cute,bubbly dear friend tora! Yes tora! The girl who was pia's bestest friend and more than a sister to her.only because of some unwanted cicumstances pia lost her valuable possessions,tora being one of them, for nothing…,thought pia.She was nt able to hold it anymore and without hesistating or thinking further pia hugged her. Tora was overwhelmed by this sudden gesture and she too hugged pia back! Both remained like this for few moments.
Risa's eyes became moist. She might b hard n rude from outside but inwardly she was soft as a mellow! Risa held both their hands in extreme delight,with a happy smile on her face. 'So,I see my three little princess r having a special moment together,han..',all three of them turned,startled by the sudden voice. Infront of them it was haseena,giving a big smile. She moved closer and held all three of them into a warm embrace,then separating herself she said, 'wow!pia you'r looking beautiful dear.' 'You too mom! Ohh..m..m..extremly sorry! Its just slipped out of my mouth! Old habit!', Said pia in embarrassment. 'Its perfectly alright dear! No need to b sorry! You'r just like my daughter. I still remember when u were small,you used come here often and how you always jumped in my arms,calling me mom,and risa used to get angry on you!', 'and mind you,I still am!',Protested risa jokingly. Haseena continued, 'So just call me mom.ok?',Pia similed shyly and replied, 'ok..mom. and its really nice to see you after such a long time!' Haseena smiled again,and placing her hand lovingly on her cheek she said, 'it seems like ages since I heard you calling me mom. It sounds so lovely. Pia no matter what happened in the past,but if you ever feel like sharing anything plzz dnt hasitate to come.ok?' pia's eyes were moist,she just nodded. 'Mom!! I think you have forgotten ur two other daughters..',complained kate with fake anger. Looking at tora haseena said, 'ofcourse nt!you too are my special ones!' At this all of them laughed heartily. 'Okk.now girls enjoy yourselves. I have to greet other guests', and she left.
After a brief pause,risa cheerfuly said, 'oh..m so happy. Our small family is complete now!'. all three of them couldn't hold back their joy. But suddenly tora said, 'No! its nt complete risa! Not until there's four of us instead of just three!' pia and risa both looked at her trying to get her meaning. Tora knew by their sudden change of expressions that they had got her hint. 'Yes! That's what I mean! Abhay! Yes! And without him our family is incomplete! And I will get him back!we will get him back!! We have to!! Not only for us but for him!! Because we all know,he cant and isn't happy without us!!' the determination in her voice was evident. Both pia and risa knew she was right! Nodding her head risa reiterated, 'yes! you'r right! We have to!', 'but unfortunately we have lost him or better say,I have lost him!' ,reprimanded pia sadly. 'No pia,dnt say like this dear,we…', but before she could complete pia protested frantically,…. 'no..no…I …you dnt understand,mayb he will get back to both of you but…but n..o..t….there's a huge distance btween us…that might never…' ,pia wasn't able to continue further,her voice choked. Tora pressed her hand with her's,trying to calm her.
'hi Queen of actress! So ..umm…let me guess,you have decided to continue with your drama here as well..han?',her mocking tone startled the trio,who were till now engrossed in their little emotional moment and made them turn back. Bewildered they looked at kate. Kate continued, 'why pia?did I said something wrong?' 'what do you think? Don't I know ,y you drapped in a fairytale like dress came here?' 'am I that stupid pia?!!' till now pia was silent but her patience level was fast breaking down,so raising her hand looking straight into her eyes, she said firmly, 'look kate,neither I have the time nor I have the intention, to think, what you know and what you dnt! I'm nt interested in any of your non-sence! So plzz leave us alone! I dnt want a scene here!plzz kate!' 'oh..come on pia,wherever you go drama itself follows you, because you yourself are a big drama! You…' 'E.n.o.u.g.h kate! Shut your b****y mouth and get outta here! Right now!' risa's voice sounded like an order. Kate was about to say something again but risa cutting her continued 'kate you know when my temper is bad, I'm worst! So just leave! And by now, I mean now!' kate knew risa well,so this time she replied in a rather dim voice, 'risa I dnt have any hard feelings against you n u know that! Moreover I'm your bhabi dear!' , 'oh..shut up! Risa shouted,fuming in anger, 'bhabi my foot! Who told you that??!! Let me remind you that you r still nt engaged to my brother, nd our family has nt accepted you yet! Forget about dad,coz dad is still unaware of your truth!', pia was feeling disgusted n watching the situation going out of control,she desparetely shouted, 'plz kate,leave us alone' and then without wasting a second clasping tora's hand she requested, 'tora come lets go! Risa come with us!' and was about to move when kate,pulling pia's hand frantically shouted, 'NO!! You witch, you cnt leave like this! You have to listen!',and holding pia's hand she thrashed her back with full force.'
The entire thing happened so suddenly,that before tora could hold,pia lost her balance and was about to hit the floor,when a familiar pair of hands held her tenderly in his firm grip and demanded sternly, 'what kind of a sick joke is this? Kate!! I'm talking to you! Answer me?? What's all this? What's going on here??', kate rolled her eyes, 'how come I know abhay!! Ask pia! She …', 'I dnt need to ask anyone! What I saw was enough!' ,all this while pia was staring at abhay,with his arms still holding her. Catty's eyes blazed in rage, she opposed, 'you'r pointing at me!?? You'r accusing me,your catty for this so called innocent,ugly faced b***h!!??', 'Shut up! Just shut up n get lost from here!! In these past months I had enough of your dramas!!'
All this while risa n tora were silent,as if they were statue! But then,they have never seen abhay like this!! They were amazed!!
And without giving kate any further chance to speak,abhay who was still holding pia's hand,took her at the far end corner of the room nd made her sit on the sofa and let go her hands. Thanks to the loud bryan adams number,nobody was able to hear the unpleasant event that took place few minutes before! Moreover this room was just beside the main hall,and was only allotted for young people,including abhay n risa's close friends n friends from the glamour world !
After a brief moment abhay spoke, 'are you alright…pia?' his voice was soft n gentle. 'yes, I'm! and even if I'm nt, what does it matter to you??!!' Pia snarled. 'do you care?!! NO! So no need of your fake concern!' her voice was full of anguish n despair. 'wether I do care or nt,that I suppose you know better,so I need nt repeat!' he retorted in a low n stern voice. 'stop toying me abhay! Go to your darling catty,the one to whom you r loyal,she might take all this crap!' abhay lost his temper and said harshly, 'yes!! I will! But before that will you tell me y you came here? Who told you to come?!!', pia looked at him with utter disbelief. 'You…how could you..say…', her voice choked. 'why cant I ? you dnt have an ounce of self respect and you expect others to show you the same!' His face became hard. 'what?what did you say?', pia asked in a weak voice. 'Yes, you heard it right! And if you did had self-respect, you would have never came here in the first place.' His tone was more rough this time. Pia felt humiliated,she couldn't utter a single word. Abhay got up n left,without looking back for once!
Humiliation and pain engulfed her. Feeling dejected,she looked at the doorway and hoped abhay would come back,though knowing very well that he won't! after awhile when pia saw risa n tora coming towards her,she gathered herself with great difficulty and smiled at them,to suppress the storm,that was whirling inside her,making her heart bleed!
Risa n tora both noticed her pale face,but assuming it was because of kate,they decided to avoid the matter,which could further disturb her! Instead they preffered talking about their lovely school n college days. Pia got somewhat distracted and was feeling light hearted, when risa got a call from her publisher n excused herself. Little later tora was having a conversation with another friend. Pia occassionaly replied in 'yes' n 'no',nodding her head from time to time,but her thoughts travelled far away!
Pia felt thirsty,so telling tora,she left the room n went inside the main hall,the actual venue of tonight's party, to get herself a soft drink! She ordered one Natillas. Her throat was dry and after all those unpleasant events and emotional encounter,she was feeling even more exhausted. So, a soft drink would b best,she thought.
The bartender served the drink,she was about to take,when the cell phone in her hand buzzed.she picked the call but ended when no one replied! Then she picked the glass of Natillas and sipped.
Tora while talking realised that it's been quite some time,but pia hasn't returned yet! 'what is taking her so long!' wondered tora, 'kate again?! No! I should better go and look for her!' , deciding she got up and went out looking for pia.
Only 3 sips n pia was feeling dizzy! She didn't understand what was happening! Why was her head spinning nd thumping miserably!! She was having a great difficulty in keeping herself steady. She slipped and was about to kiss the ground, when tora held her quickly and supporting her took her to the nearby sofa and made her sit. Pia looked up at tora, drowsily n said, 'tora! Oh..my dear friend! Plz save me…help..me..dear..! a..b..hay…ab….' ,tora trying to calm her gently said, 'its ok dear! What is it? Tell me? I'm here! Tell me dear?', 'ab..abhay…tora…he couldn't..do…this to me! He cannot go…away…like this!! He cant… I will…nt…plz help me!! Help me dear!! Wnt you?!!' , her voice almost choking n tears rolled down her cheeks. Tora felt terrible watching pia like this. She sensed pia wasn't on her normal state. She was completely drunk! But what she still couldn't figure out,was how pia had it,as she perfectly knew she never touched alcohol!! Nevertheless it was impossible for tora to handle pia,as she was emotionally devastated n the alcohol in her stomach made it even more worse! 'no I cnt handle pia alone! I need someone! But who? Umm..yes, I need to ask him! But if he doesn't agree? Anyway there's no other choice left,so I have to!' She decided n left to find him by herself.
Abhay was standing beside chand, listening to Brijesh Arora, Chand's business partner and occasionally nodding his head in approval. Though he couldn't think anything else but pia! The more he thought,the more he became agitated,his heart rebelled as if it would burst any moment!! But his thoughts were hindered when a soft yet gentle,familiar voice called his name from behind. Abhay turned back and saw tora standing with a worried face. Without wasting her time she said in a low voice, 'abhay plz come with me! Pia..she is..' 'why? What? What happened to her? Where is she? Is pia alright??', abhay asked frantically, his tone full of concern. 'um..no..she is ok! No..i mean..abhay..she is completely drunk! She..' but before she could say more,abhay snapped rudely, 'wow! Great! The aspiring actress is behaving herself now! awesome!!' , 'abhay plzz listen to me! for once plz! Pia is in terrible condition! And I cant handle her alone! Plzz abhay! She is constantly mumbling your name! and..', abhay retorted back, 'go n tell your dear friend to look after herself, as I know very well, she can do it! I wont go anywhere! I have more important works to do!' gently placing her hand on his arm tora said, 'abhay plz dnt do like this! No matter how much you try, I know what is going inside you! I can see it! Dnt lie abhay! The whole world may n't but I know how much you miss her! You need her,she needs you! You both need eachother!'
Atfirst abhay didn't respond but he burst out hearing her last words. 'tora, just stop it! Stop this nonsence! When I needed her she didn't even bother to look at me and now you'r saying that she needs me??!! what a joke!! But sorry to say, I dnt care! Go tell her,I give a damn!' , he said bitterly. 'you do care abhay! Yes you do! And you can't deny that! Now will you plz for god's sake,come with me!!?? you can sort things later with her! But I think we should hurry now! there's plenty of time to think n talk about all these!, tora almost pleaded.
Abhay's features became soft, and he asked curtly, ok! Fine! Lets go!' and they hurried.
Manish Malhotra was observing when his sharp eyes fell on pia. He was a known philanderer. He walked up to the place,where pia was seated in a half lying position,with her head leaning against the sofa. She was contantly mumbling something in an almost inaudible tone. Manish bent over her with lustful eyes n whispered to himself, 'wow! Pia Dobrial, the aspiring actress ! what a beauty! I must say,she is something!! But now only a damsel in distress! Great!!', and he laughed. 'hey, beautiful, I see you'r lonely! That's nt fair! Come with me! I will give you company', he said and moved his hand to touch pia,when a strong hand prevented him, and shoving him away roared ferociously, 'Leave !' Manish looked at abhay sharply n said, 'oh..ya! ofcourse! I was just wondering wether she is the same pia n just wanted to confirm,that is y..', 'she is n't pia but Pia Dobrial and she is an established model and an actress! And most importantly she is my friend! And I think that's enough reason for you to leave!' , his voice sounded like a command, and Manish left without arguing further! 'B******d!!' muttered abhay,gritting his teeth.
Tora jumped beside pia and held her hand, 'abhay what should we do now? she cnt even b able to drive back home in this state! We have to do something!', hearing her tenced voice abhay turned n looked at tora. Then again shifting his gaze to pia,he said annoyedly, 'hopeless! She is a lost case!' n then looking back at tora,he said angrily, 'What?? What are you looking me at? Both of you are dumb! How could you leave her like this?!! Dnt you know,how this parties are?? What kind of peoples come here??!! What if you have n't found me? or I have n't reached here on time??!! Both of you'r impossibly stupid! You people think that the whole world is like you?!!' Snubbed abhay.
When abhay stopped,tora said softly, 'um..i know, I shouldn't have left her like this! I'm sorry! But what else could have I done?!! Just look at her condition! It was n't possible for me to control her alone! She is constantly mumbling your name! we have to make her steady somehow!' abhay's face softened, he bend and holding pia by her arm asked tora, 'come,help me! will you?' tora nodded and they both held pia and advanced towards the staircase,that was round behind the hall. No one noticed as the room was dimly lit n people were busy drinking,talking and dancing to the on-going DJ numbers.
They almost reached the door when kate appered from nowhere and looking at pia said bitterly, 'wow!! So I see miss drama queen has made her way straight to your arms,again hann!! What a b***h!' 'shut up kate! Seal your b****y mouth, or else..' said abhay fuming, 'else what?? Tell me? look baby, if you want to keep her as your mistress,then its fine! I have no problem! Use her and throw her! I'm fine with it,as long as you'r mine and mine alone!', she smiled wickedly. And that was the most stupid thing that kate ever did, as it was enough to annoy him,who though didn't show but cared for pia like hell. 'Enough!! Get out of my way! I hate you! No..i can't even hate you! You dnt even worth it! You'r much much inferior to deserve that!' 'you know what? You'r just a disgusting b*****…I will do the movie! Yes!! I will sign the movie with pia! I will dance,romance with her and do whatever I like!!! Do you get that?? Now get lost before I lose my sanity!!' roared abhay with disgust,his eyes burning with rage! Kate hissed back, 'ok..i'm leaving!' But in her mind she said, 'wait pia, just wait for me! I'm going to shook your world! I promise you,it will b a roller coaster ride! You will nt even b able to collect the broken pieces of your priced posessions!', and with a bitter smile she left.
When finally they reached the stairs,tora said to abhay, 'we can't take her like this abhay,she isn't steady,so you better pick her up!' abhay nodded, 'yes, I think you'r right! It's becoming difficult!', saying this he picked up pia in his arms and ascended the stairs with tora following him. Abhay stopped infront his room and holding pia in his arms, he entered along with tora. He then carefully placed pia on his bed and said, 'tora you stay here with her, I will b back soon!' but before he could leave,tora exclaimed nervously, 'but abhay,were are you going?', dn't worry! I'm n't going anywhere. We have to make her better,isn't it? So I'm going to bring one lemonade,as you know, I cant call anyone here,else it will b the top story on tomorrow's daily newspapers!' tora understood and nooded.
The room was huge and aesthetically decorated. The touch of elegance was everywhere! It has to b ! afterall it was Abhay Raichand's bedroom!
Tora looked down at pia,she was in a semi-conscious state and wasn't mumbling anymore! She started caressing her head. After a while abhay came back,holding a tray with a glass of lemonade in it. He placed the tray on the table beside his bed and sat at her side. Tora who had already stood up seeing abhay said, ' abhay,now that you'r here, I can go.', 'what? Are you leaving?, 'oh, no, I'm nt leaving! I called risa several times,but she isn't picking her phone,so I think I should better go and look for her myself. We have to tell her about pia na?!!' , 'ya,ok. But dnt b late!' , 'ya sure.'
After tora was gone,abhay looked at pia again and then gently holding her by the arm,lifted her and called her name, 'pia! open your eyes!' and then holding the glass with one hand,he called her again, 'pia! plz open your eyes! Just have this,you will feel better!' pia who was half-conscious,moved a little,her eyelids stirred and she looked up at abhay! Though her eyes were half-closed and the drug inside her was making her vision blur. Pia mumbled 'who?..oh..to..ra..it's you! I dnt need anything! just...plz..help me…dear..plz..ask…a..b…hay nt..to ….leave me…plz… I cant….plz…', 'pia..its me,abhay! Plz calm down! I'm here!' he said lovingly. 'abh…ay…it's…you!! Have…you…left me?...did you..did you..did you really mean…what..you said..?!!...do I mean…n..othing…to..you! fumbled pia. 'oh…NO…Pia..NO! ofcourse nt!! Oh…dear..how can I ??!!', 'then then y…?', she cried clasping his hand as hard as possible. 'pia,plz calm down, I promise, I wnt leave you! I can't leave you! I'm sorry…I never meant to hurt you! I …', 'No..plz..dnt b sorry..!' , fumbled pia again but continued 'I dnt want you to b sorry! I …just…it's…that.. I ..dnt…care..whatever kate…no matter how much..she insults me… it dsnt matter…what matters..is… it's you..! .. I care nothing but you..! ..it kills me inside,everytime, I look at you..and.. I see no…no emotion..no care…nothing…it's killing me!! … I cn't… I cn't… I have everything…yet…without you I have nothing…!', her voice broke down and tears breaded her lashes. After remaining silent all these time, finally abhay spoke, his voice more soft, 'pia, I cn't leave you! Never Ever! Nt in this life! We are friends remember?!! Mayb more than that!!', he said affectionately,trying to appease her. Just then tora entered and said, 'abhay I found risa and told her everything. But what we do now? and how is she now? is she ok?', 'yaa, she is alright! It's a drug overdose! We have to take her, She needs to see a doctor', replied abhay with a sigh.
He then quickly stood up and taking pia in his arms,walked out of the room. 'abhay you go, I'm coming with risa', tora said from behind. 'ok, just tell risa to ask joseph to bring out my car. Ok?' , 'yep', nodded tora and left.
Abhay reached infront of the parking lot,with pia in his arms, when all of a sudden it started raining! Pia whose eyes were closed till now,opened her lids slowly and murmured in a feeble tone, 'oh..again..but I …hate…rain..soo much…but then everytime it brings You to me..!', and before she could say further she passed out. Her pain terribly effecting him,awake the emotions those were long hidden. Abhay kept looking at her,his eyes reflected so much intensity,as if his heart would burst any moment in agony! His eyes flickered an image of pain,guilt and desperation and a drop of tear rolled down his cheek. He stood there without moving, as the rain droplets drenched him along, with his world in his arms..
