I call my husband by his first name. But when we are talking to kids I use the term aap. We don't live in India and they don't get too much exposure to Hindi so we try to teach them the more formal language. That is the only time aap is used in our house.

Although behooda is my new favourite word...I do call my sons behoodas now!!! ;) See you can learn something from the telly!!!

ummm...i think there is more distance in someone you love when saying AAP, and more closeness in saying TUM. Like in respecting elders or someone you can say AAP, but when you love someone like a spouse or gf/bf, saying AAP shows more distance, rather than TUM. Maybe my philosophy is wrong.

hmmm...for me it dependz on the relationship the 2 ppl (husband and wife) share
My mom calls ma dad 'aap' but it dusnt mean that my mom is any less than my father..its juzz that she respects him..and he calls her 'tum'..but it dusnt mean its for insulting her..
i think if a wife calls a husband AAP..its not a big deal for me..and its more usual to call a husband aap..coz mostly in married couples..the guys are older than the gals..so thats also a reason..y making it such a big issue 😛..and look like a war between men and women..😆
and i kinda like sum old customs..like calling ur hubby..aap..or suniye..i find it cute 😳
and if the guy is not older..or same age as the gal..then they can call each other tum..but i personally dont have any issues wid AAp 😃

in olden days wife eats in the plate in which her husband ate...😆...and the husband leaves little food in the plate for their wife to eat. if they don't do so the wife get upset or sad😆

What is wrong will putting all the food on the table and everyone serves themselves and eat together?? Krishna pass the aaloo gopi??? What is wrong with this???

Exactly!!!! its very pointless...lets all eat together, pray together n live together right..why all the patiality....sadly this happen s in so many houses...

Makes perfect sense...my uncle does tht..but the aunty has made tht habit...recently when we went to india..my dad took my sis's dish, he forced her to give it, to wash...n aunty was questioning us like helll....its very clear in our house..we do work for each other. we do his work..he does our work..aunty's husband is sitting right 2 steps away yet she has to get up and take his dish to wash..he doesnt put it himself...so annoying....he doesnt even take water by himslef.its also like 2 steps away...she has to give it to him...n after hes done take the glass from him....like its the "womens" work...hell noo...i hate such foolish formalities...yuck!

Hi Shumi di,

I understand your explanation but which century are you referring to 😆

personally I would expect my husband to respect my hard work, and today most women would find happiness when their husbands appreciated their hard work, and asked them to join them at dinner, taking the food by themselves which was already placed in front of them.

Back then women only took care of the house today women have careers as well as a house to look after men should understand this and respect their wives hardwork, just like women respect their husbands hard work 😛

OMG I noticed the same thing when i visited India with my family, I was shocked then realized that if women keep doing things for their husbands it first becomes a habit, then a necessity eventually it's the women's fault for tolerating their behavior and not setting things straight from the beginning.
