Television series have worked for years, perhaps the longest running one being Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi which ran for 8 years. There are others that have come and now there is even a Marathi series called Char Diwas Saasuche which has completed 3000 episodes.

The point is how do these series sustain themselves for such a long time? We at Forum 32 who covered shows like Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Humse Hai Life, Suvreen Guggal- Topper of the Year till they ran and currently cover Arjun - Har Yug Mein Aayega Ek and Qubool Hai have seen changes that could make one spin.
Be it changes in basic plot of a story in Suvreen Guggal - Topper of the Year with a location change from Delhi to Mumbai, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon saw an upheaval when Barun Sobti, the lead, had put in his papers and the show itself had shut down. Humse Hai Life had seen change in the lead actor, Himansh Kohli whose movie has recently come out, and replaced by Varun Kapoor.

The current shows Arjun have seen a huge change in the star cast with 6 actors no longer part of the storyline and three new people have been roped in to create a new story. Of course, the biggest newsmaker has been Karan Singh Grover's exit from Qubool Hai. However, before him there were many a changes from Ayaan Ahmed Khan being first played by Rishabh Sinha and then Vikrant Massey, Nuzzat Ahmed Khan first played by Digangana Suryavanshi and now it is Farina Parvez, Tanveer s face has also changed from Nisha Nagpal to Amrapali Gupta.

Changes it seems is a constant in daily soap. There are few soaps where changes in terms of leaps, storyline or characters have not happened. Again it is part of life. Things change, people need to move on to progress and yes there are other factors which make things change in any given situation.

As an audience, we believe it is difficult to suddenly see a change happening, but with time (perhaps it is a big healer) and provided the story is enthralling enough, there is some sort of acceptance.
How do you as an audience feel when you see such changes? Should a story find its culmination when the first signs of changes come up? Or should the show go on? After all, there is always an audience who would not mind the change? Also there are people who work in these shows on daily basis and losing a job in today's time is a difficult prospect (not that losing a job in any times is easy).
What is your opinion? Is the bigger picture always what one needs to look into? Lets discuss.
