PART-27

The room was on the second floor of the banquet hall booked for the sangeet ceremony. Maan sat on the sofa awaiting Abhisekh Khurana. He knew this was going to be one long conversation. True to his anticipation a fuming abhisekh stepped into the room followed by Savitri Devi and Vicky.

Abhisekh:"How dare you Maan?? How dare you try to revive your relationship with that chit of a girl?"

Maan:"I would have shut my mouth up had I been at your place Mr. Abhisekh Khurana."

Maan's voice was cold and emotionless yet it was sharp as steel. Even though Abhisekh Khurana was stumped a bit he sat down to confront Maan.

Maan:"So let's leave all the dramatics here and discuss business. After all you of all people can never come here to attend wedding. You are not human enough to feel emotions anymore..."

Abhisekh:"MAAN!!!! Don't forget I am your father!"

Maan:"I wish!!! I wish I could actually forget that you are my father!!!"

The disgust with which Maan spat back the words reverberated around the room making its impact on the people present in the room.

Maan: "My personal choices are not your concerns Mr. Khurana. So spit out why exactly are you here."

Abhisekh:" What is going on Maan? How come someone from outside is the major share holder when we have almost 85% shares within the family itself?"

Maan:"When the MD of the company slacks on his duties such things are bound to happen Mr. Khurana."

Abhisekh:"I am not in a mood of riddles Maan. Do you have the majority stakes in your name? You have earned it Beta and it is fine."

Maan laughed out loud a cruel and emotionless laughter. He looked back at the person sitting opposite to him.

Maan:"Do you know Mr. Khurana, coincidently, tonight is exactly four years of the night you made me choose between my love and my love's happiness? Isn't it fate working here? Four years ago you forced me to be the ruthless monster I am today and today, you face that monster that is your own creation?"

Abhisekh:"But your power is still tied in that chit of girl Geet. All I have to do is threaten her world to bring you back to my world..."

Maan watched on to the inhuman sitting in front of him. This man had no remorses in him, none at all.

Maan:"That is where you had mistaken Mr. Khurana. You always thought Geetu is my weakness. But she is my strength. She had always been my strength. Tell me, how the hell will you threaten her world when your own world will collapse into big nothingness??"

Abhisekh could for the first time in his life feel fear seep in. It was as if a shiver passed through his spines as he watched Maan as The Maan Singh Khurana.

Maan: "You are a fool Mr. khurana. You had given me the only thing that could have stopped your doom. Remember the papers which made me the sole ownership of geetu's papaji's land and the companies...that was the only thing stopping me. I have been preparing for this night four years now..."

Abhisekh:"I must say, that was impressive Maan...but now what?"

Maan:"So let's first put inside that thickhead of yours how exactly I got my hands on major shares i.e. 55% of the total shares...Mr. khurana you had always been proud of yourself that you did not tend to notice of small things. Like my love and its intensity were of low importance to you, same was the shares belonging to Dadi. I mean she had only 25% shares and you had 60%...you knew you were not threatened by them. "

Abhisekh khurana was curious yet something told him that this meeting would never be on his favour.

Maan:"Dadi had given her 25% shares to me the day I joined KE, i.e. exactly 1 month from the day I broke up with Geetu. I had very patiently and calculatively secured 10% of shares from the market under your nose and you did not have any idea!!!Not a very promising characteristic of MD, I must say. Then I waited for you to return the papers of assets belonging to Geet's family. I wanted to secure them first so you can't blackmail me again. And guess what you gave me another 15% shares that made me a holder of 50% shares in the Khurana enterprise. But I wanted to secure my winning so I needed at least 1% more..."

Abhisekh:"So you bought 5% more from market again?"

Maan:"For the MD of the company you can be really clueless sometimes. Rest 5% was secured from within the family itself..."

Vicky who had been the silent witness piped in and said," I gave Veerji my 5% shares. Yesterday all the procedures of transfer had completed."

Abhisekh khurana watched on as his two sons looked at him as if he was some filth.'

Abisekh:"So you are the major shareholder?"

Maan:"No."

Abhisekh:"What do you mean?"

Maan:" You know the day you had made me break her heart I had promised myself I will destroy the reason of your pride. That day you did not care about my feelings. I had promised that I will show you exactly how inconsistent your so called reputation is. The moment I had secured that 55% shares I had transferred it in Geet's name. Geet is the major shareholder of your company. You had termed her as middle class filth. Now go and seek that middle class filth's permission before you can decide anything in your company. You rejected her for money right. Now go and ask her vote to keep your seat of MD. You once threatened her family of their income. Now she is the owner of your home. Guess what? Khurana Mansion which Dadaji had left in my name is under her name. One day you did not allow her to be the member of that house. Now go and seek permission to stay in a place you have known as home."

Abhisekh was stumped with the revelations.

Abhisekh:"Have you ever thought what can be the aftermath of this? Not only me but your brother's future lies in this as well?"

Maan:"Oh!!! Stop Mr. Khurana!! Don't you dare imply you are actually worried about Vicky! Guess what!! This was a checkmate!"

Maan stood up to walk out of the room. At the door he stopped and said, "You know something Mr. Khurana? The moment Geet comes to know how much of your company assets she owns she will return every penny of yours. She never takes anything she doesn't earn. That's my Geetu!! The righteous one!! She had loved your son without knowing his bank balance and in spite of every hurt; every pain I have hurled upon her she still loves me deep inside. But you won't understand this. Because this is not some profit and loss statements but human emotions. I have for years wondered why Mom left us...guess I know now. She could not bear to be in the vicinity of a person like you...You disgust me Mr. Khurana!! You absolutely disgust me."

Maan left the room. Outside the door he saw Dev standing. One look and Maan knew that Dev was guilty of his behaviour. Dev raised his head to say something when Maan engulfed him in a hug. Dev mumbled a sorry when Maan said, "Hush Dev!!! I deserved every word you said. Don't be sorry for doing exactly what a friend should do.."

Dev said in a remorseful voice, "In being her friend, her brother I forgot to be your brother. You had always been there for me whenever I needed you. Yet I failed to understand a simple fact that if you had hurt Geetu, you had killed yourself in the process."

Maan smiled and said," No Dev!! Don't be so harsh on yourself... It is absolutely alright not to be compassionate and empathetic for once. Whatever the reason is I had broken Geetu badly and I deserved every bit of punishment I got."

Dev smiled at last. He knew somewhere his Maan bro could never be wrong. Yet the confirmation made him feel light.

Dev:"So, now what?"

Maan:"Now it is time I get my life, my love back. It is time to woo her back."

With a naughty wink Maan climbed down the stairs feeling light and smiling heartily after almost four years.

While upstairs Maan was busy ruining the ego and pride of Mr. Abhisekh Khurana downstairs everybody was confused with the exchange. Maan had never been the flirty types. Once the Khuranas had left the hall followed by a worried Dev however everybody focused their attention on Geet.

Meer:"So it had been Maan all along..."

Yash:"We should have guessed Meer. The way she reacted every time we uttered Maan's name...but we thought Maan was just a crush and she got over him...

Meer:"Yash, I don't want any interference and Geetu... why?"

Geet raised her eyes and even in the fit of rage Meer could feel the difference. Geet's eyes were speaking finally. Geet did not resemble the zombie she had been for the past four years. And that gave Meer hope. But now was not the time to deal with her inferences.

Meer:"Answer me Geetu? Was he the one?"

Geet mumbled out in a soft voice, "Yes Meer, but I can explain."

Meer:"Explain!!!! For past three years I have watched you die each day. When I was trying to help you out you did not even bother me with the truth. You did not trust me enough Geetu. Wasn't my friendship enough to make you divulge the secret?"

Geet:"Meer!! Don't dare think that!! If today I am alive it was because of your love and support you gave. But I could not have said you the name Meer. "

Pinky who was quiet till now spoke out," Why Geetu? You could have trusted us a bit with your secret?"

Geet knew she had hurt her friends' big time. She had never thought a day as such would come in her life when she won't find straight answers to simple questions. Closing her eyes she tried organising her thoughts a bit when she heard Samaira's soft yet firm voice speak out," I know I am no one to comment in between. But don't you think it is unlike geet to hide things. Maybe she was not at fault. Give her the benefit of doubt and trust her because she would have had she been at your place."

Samaira's voice stumped everyone as everybody knew she was right. Pinky could not have kept quiet and said," But Sam, how come you are siding Geet tonight?"

Samaira smiled a sarcastic smile as she spoke," I know how much it pains when your friend misunderstands you. I don't want anyone to go through that pain let alone Geet. Geet had to bear the pain for other's misdoing. It is time to set things right."

Samaira was about to leave the hall when Geet held her hand and said," Thank you Samaira."

Meer:" I understand that there must be some reasons Geetu but I am still not satisfied. Why did you not confide this to us?"

Geet was contemplating on the answer when a deep voice boomed," It was because of me."

Everybody shifted to see Maan standing at the base of stairs with his usual calm demeanour ready to face the situation head on.

Loved all your comments and I know some of you did guess right for geet to be the major share holder so kudos!!!!! I am quite worried about this part...
