Aakhir Kyun?
The Question ---- Why?
Aarti was getting busy with the kids after the Diwali celebrations as she had to help them out with all their holiday homework. They had enjoyed a lot and now it was time for them to finish up all their assignments which had to be submitted when school reopened. So like all mothers she was at the job.
Afternoon time was spent with them in turns --- Palak, Payal and Ansh. But these kids were very smart and every time she tried to help them out with stuff they would come up with lots of questions --- It was always a WHY from them ----some of which Aarti found it difficult herself. By the time it was evening she was fed up and Yash walked in.
The kids ran to their Dad and said: Papa, we have so many questions for which Mumma does not have the answers.
Yash looks at Aarti who was by now tired and fed up too.
Yash: This is not possible. Your Mumma did not have the answers? No--- she must have been joking with you all. She knows everything. Maybe she was testing you all.
Palak: No Papa, she really did not know this answer --- and this one ---( saying this she showed him a few questions from her textbook.)
Yash: Okay, right now I am tired; we will deal with this later. How many more days of chutti do you all have?
Ansh: Papa, Ten more days.
Yash: Oh that's a lot of time so don't worry.
Aarti did not even look at Yash and walked away to the kitchen to get something for him. Yash could see her frustration in her handling these young smart kids of theirs!
The kids run away to the garden to play as their strict tutor was now busy attending to her boss!
Aarti comes with some tea for Yash and he had just freshened up and changed into his casuals.
Yash: Aartiji, why don't you too freshen up? You look so drawn.
Aarti: No I am okay Yashji. Please have this.
She was about to leave the room when Yash stops her by straightening his hand in front of her.
Aarti moves it aside and says: Let me go.
Yash: No --- first have a wash you'll feel better.
Aarti: No --- I am too tired.
Yash: That's what I dislike about you ---- you are always tired!!!!
Aarti now gives Yashji a "look" and he winks to cool her temper.
Aarti wants to smile but how could she give in so easily?
Finally she says: I'll do what you say if you spend time with kids and finish up their assignments tonight.
Yash: I'll have them finish it but don't insist on tonight!!!!
Aarti: Why? Why not tonight?
Yash: See, you have also started asking the same questions that the kids bothered you with --- the Why's!!!!!
Aarti says: Okay, but please help them with it as I can't handle them any more.
Yash: Okay Aartiji, relax now and wear this lovely saree.
He hands her a nice one after opening the cupboard and sits on the single seater.
She goes into the washroom and after sometime comes back in the same saree as before. She looked quite annoyed too.
Yash: Arrey, you haven't had a wash? (Naughtily---) Do you need help?
Aarti (as stern as she could get): I have Yashji --- I mean I would have had one --- had you not played a prank on me.
Yash: What? Me and a prank?
Aarti: Yes, the towel was missing and I never forget the towel while I go for a wash.
Yash: Haan, now tell me --- Why? Why does the woman never forget the towel like we men always do while going for a wash?
Aarti controlled her smile yet again and said: Because your mind is not on the task of a wash --- it is always elsewhere!
Yash: One second Aartiji, what are you trying to say?
Yash holds her by her hand now.
Aarti: Please leave me Yashji and let me take the towel and go. I've got to fix dinner too.
Yash: What if I take you all out for dinner --- then can we prolong this discussion of the Why's I need to ask you?
Aarti was already fed up with the kids and now the Dad had taken over from them.
She sits down on the bed and says: Okay ask me Yashji. What is it you want to know?
Yash: Answers to a lot of Why's from you. Only if you answer them will I take charge of getting the assignments done by the kids.
Aarti: Fine --- start with your questions.
Aarti knew it was easier to handle Yash than the kids. At least she could use her other tactics to keep him under control!
Yash comes and sits next to her. He does not say anything at first but just keeps looking at her.
Aarti: Now why are you staring at me like that?
Yash: Oh --- that's my first question. Why do men mostly stare at their wives and not vice --- versa?
Aarti (tongue in cheek): Maybe because we are prettier. And more tempting!
Yash: Oh ---- I see. You said tempting?
Aarti: Yashji, I meant good looking --- attractive ---
Yash runs his fingers through her hair on her face and says: So you don't think I am that good looking --- is it?
Aarti: No Yashji, that's not what I meant.
Yash: Okay --- come on -- now give me one quickly before the kids come back from play.
Aarti now gets up angrily.
Yash pulls her back and makes her sit.
Aarti: But Yashji, you said that you would ask questions that's all. Now you are ---
Yash: My questions are based on the actions we do. Like the first one was on the bathing part?!!! Got it?
Aarti knew that Yash wasn't letting her off so easily. So she too decided to relax and have some fun. Anyway the dinner was taken care of by Yash's promise of an outing.
She goes close to Yashji to fulfill his "sweet little wish", when he stops her.
Aarti: Now what happened, Yashji?
Yash: My question --- Why?
Aarti: What is it?
Yash: Why do you close your eyes while kis---
Aarti stops him with her palm: Shshh ---- what kind of a question is this?
Yash: One of the many Why's you need to answer.
Aarti: I don't know.
Yash: Then try keeping it open this time. Okay ---- let's start again.
Aarti tries but fails to do so with Yash's intense look on her.
Aarti: It is okay Yashji. I'll teach the kids myself.
Yash holds her back and says: No Aartiji, I was just having some fun with you. I'll teach them all their stuff. You just relax now.
He pulls her close to him and closes in to kiss her. Seeing Aarti close her eyes, he stops and smiles and then waits.
Aarti was waiting for "that moment" which never happened for a few seconds. So she opens her eyes and then he comes down to finish what she wanted. She had her eyes open this time looking at him and so was he. It was quite a different feeling for them. After some time she takes her eyes off him and also pushes him aside feeling bashful.
Yash: That was a different experience --- wasn't it?
Aarti gets up and goes to get the towel and freshen up.
Yash: Aartiji, I am here to help you out just in case ---
Aarti: No thanks.
She quickly goes in and closes the door before "Sir" could try another prank with her.
After a few minutes, Yash waits for her to come out and she opens the door very marginally and says: Yashji, I forgot the saree this time. Can you please pass it to me.
Yash picks up the saree which she had left on the bed and goes close to the door. He could see that she just had the towel wrapped around her. She was quite shy too.
Yash: Here, take it.
She stretches her hand and Yash holds it.
Aarti: Now what is it?
Yash: Why do I feel like having a wash too NOW?
He stresses on the NOW part.
Aarti: Please Yashji. Stop it.
There was no stopping here.
After a few minutes
Yash comes out first and sees the kids jumping on the bed.
Yash: What is happening here?
The kids: Papa, why were you in the bath room for so long? We could not find Mumma anywhere at home so we came here to look for her and no one was here too. So we are playing here.
Yash: You haven't searched properly. Did you look for her in the kitchen?
The kids in chorus: YES
Yash: Okay now go and see in the mandir --- maybe she has gone there to light the lamp.
The kids realize that they never went there ---- so they leave the room running.
Yash tells them loudly: And don't come back to me without Mumma --- because I have a surprise for all of you this evening.
Yash knew this was the only way to protect Aarti from getting embarrassed.
Aarti by now knew that the kids were in the room. She waits for Yash's signal of safety.
Yash: Aartiji, you can come out now.
Aarti comes out and looks stunning in that saree which she had partially wrapped in the bath room itself.
Yash: I have one more question Aartiji.
Aarti: Please Yashji not any more.
Yash: Why are you so beautiful?
Aarti: Why are you so nice?
Yash: Why is your answer in the form of a question?
Aarti: Why do you want to trouble me all the time?
Yash: Why are we so loving?
Aarti: Enough Why's for the day Yashji. Lets get going with our dinner outing.
Aarti begins to leave the room when Yash reminds her to first go to the mandir for that's where the kids would be looking for her.
Aarti smiles. So does Yash.
And thus ended the Why's for the day!
