She Loves Me Not... She Loves Me...
He woke up with a start, his head still buzzing and one look at the clock he jumped out of bed, "shit". He ran to the bathroom to have a quick shower, still his mind wander to his dream... five days in a row dreaming about her. He told himself to get a grip... loosing himself over a woman is so foolish but how to tell that to a heart which has a mind of its own.
"I haven't had proper sleep in weeks and my work is suffering from lack of focus all because of this woman."
He drove like a maniac to his office, thank god he is the boss otherwise he will be sacked for sure. He greeted and smiled at some of his staffs along the path to his cabin. He made a resolution to be productive that day and started opening the files on his table. He worked for an hour so not without straying but he would always bring his mind to the task in front of him
Then his secretary reminded him about an appointment with Aarti Dubey.
"Today!" he said through the phone.
"Do you want me to cancel... she is on the other line right now," his secretary asked.
"No...No... don't cancel... ask her to come," he said unsure to rejoice or to regret the decision.
"Hold on Sir... I will confirm the time and get back to you."
"Ms Aarti Dubey will be here in an hour's time," she told him.
He had a hard time concentrating on his work after that, he looked at his wrist watch a zillion times and fidgeted in his seat a lot. When his secretary announced her arrival, he pretended to hover over his files and didn't even bother to look up as she entered his cabin. The whole place was filled with her intoxicating scent... how she drives him wild.
"Good morning Sir," she greeted him with the brightest smile.
He returned her greetings with a controlled voice not giving the slightest inclination of the wild thoughts that is going on in his head. She made a presentation of her work to him and he maintained a straight face most of the time while taking opportunity to gaze at her when she flipped the pages of her file or when she was looking elsewhere.
"My God! Why does she have to be so beautiful? Her eyes, her long luscious hair and her curvaceous body... she is so perfect. She is all covered up yet she is looking hot and alluring to me," all this thought running in his mind.
"Sir...Sir...so what do you think?" she asked.
"Ah!...Crap...I haven't listened to one single word she has said since she came in... how the hell am I going to answer her," he said to himself.
He pressed his hands on his head and said, "Actually I have a terrible headache."
"You should have cancelled the meeting...I will leave now."
"No...No... you don't have to go...I will ask my secretary to send some tablets and cup of tea. I will be fine in no time. Would you like some tea?" he asked praying that she will take up the offer. There was no way he would let her leave. She agreed to his offer and his heart jumped in joy.
While sipping tea, Aarti had an incoming call...she looked at Yash and he gave her the go ahead to pick up the call.
"It's my mom," she whispered and pressed the call button.
"Yes mom...I am in a meeting...make it a quick one."
"No...mom... I told the designer that we will be coming for the fitting tomorrow... she has to finish it by today...mom please make sure she does," she said and hung up the phone.
"Sorry about that...some girls stuff," she threw her head behind and that got his pulse racing.
"What if I offer you more money...will you come and work for me...I think I will need a good consultant just like you," he said casually.
"Excuse me," she asked surprised.
"I'm not working for money...my dad has his own company...if I wanted more money I could have worked for him," she continued.
"Hmmm...I thought I can bribe you to stay with me...what else can I offer you."
Aarti looked at him puzzled. He realized what he just said and tried to change topic by inviting her for lunch with him ... she flatly refused because she thought the meeting with him had gone unproductive and she didn't want to waste more time.
"Where are you headed?... Did you drive today?" he asked taking a chance with the question.
"No... I didn't drive today. I'm going back to the office."
"I will drive you there... I'm going in that direction." It was a blatant lie but he didn't care if she guessed it.
"Oh!" she thought a while, "I have no reason to think that he might have ulterior motive... he doesn't seem the type." She agreed and his heart did a somersault... "today must be my lucky day."
He was in cloud nine...finally getting more time alone with her...he drove at an awfully slow speed...Aarti didn't know whether to laugh or get mad at him. His inquisitive mind wanted to gather more information about her but she poured cold water on his plans by talking about their project. He listened with very low enthusiasm and at last they arrived at their destination.
He thought to himself, "I will never get a better chance than this... I have to tell her how I feel about her."
He turned to the side and gazed into her eyes...she couldn't look at him not when he looked at her with those piercing eyes and looked away.
He cleared his throat and blurted out, "Aarti...I think I'm in love with you."
"Huh!" she almost screamed.
"I know you must be surprised to hear it...believe me I'm surprised too... we hardly know each other and all our correspondence has been related to work but I can't stop thinking about you," he felt relieved letting it all out.
After a pause that seemed like eternity she said, "Look... Mr Schindia...," he cut her off... "call me Yash"... "Ok...Yash...I'm sure you are a nice guy and any woman will be lucky to have you as their partner... I just don't have the time to get to know you...I'm getting engaged this weekend." With that she got down from the car.
"Engaged," the word echoed in his ears...of all the reasons for rejection he never anticipated to hear that reason... his hopes all came crumbling down.
He went home...and stayed there...cooped up for a few days like a typical lovelorn man. After emptying his fridge with nothing to eat and deciding he still wants to live...he took a shower, shaved himself and got ready.
He looked at his watch...saw the date and remembered her words, "I'm getting engaged this weekend."
He thought for a long while... his head filled with crazy ideas...
"What if I kidnap her...?"... "What if I gate-crash her engagement function and claim that I'm her lover and...?" The second seemed a more plausible option. He put his plan into action...he called his secretary to get Aarti's address and drove as fast as he could.
He arrived at the given address and noticed throngs of people going into the lighted bungalow...this must be it. He took a deep breath and went in...he looked around ...taking in the splendour of the place. He realized the absurdity of his plan...how was he going to find her in this huge place and then he heard someone shout...
"Aarti is upstairs at the far end room."
Bingo...he took the staircase and went up...and went into the particular room easily as the door was opened. He saw no one and assumed it was the wrong room just then Aarti appeared.
"You...what are you doing here," she asked in a loud voice.
"Is anyone else in the room?" he asked.
She didn't answer so he asked her again this time with a more intimidating voice... she shook her head. He went towards the door and locked it.
"What are you trying to do?" she said and moved backwards as he inched towards her. Her legs hit the bed... she was trapped...she got on the bed and curled up holding her knees in her hands. In a few seconds he was on the bed too...he stretched his hand to touch her...she curled up even more.
"What do you want? Please don't do anything stupid," she asked in a trembling voice.
"Aarti...I'm not going to hurt...I love you," he replied.
"You don't love me you just want me...the function is going to start soon...you have to go from here," she reasoned with him in the hope he will understand. They heard the sound of someone trying to turn the doorknob...Aarti became more desperate.
"Let me go or I will scream and you can imagine what they will do to you," she resorted to threatening when her soft approach didn't work.
"Aarti...I will tell them that I'm your lover and you called me here so we can elope." She looked at him with disgust...how low could he go.
"Ok...I will go on one condition...,"he proposed to her.
"If you let me kiss you..." ...Aarti looked at him at first thinking that he must joking...then it dawned on her...he was dead serious.
"Ok... only a kiss and don't touch me anywhere else," she said with a stern warning...but a little worried for being too trusting.
He moved closer to her...he can almost hear her breathing...he then put his finger below her chin and brought her mouth closer to his. His lips touched hers...her mouth twitched in response and he pressed a soft kiss against hers...she had her lips shut and he really wanted her to respond to him. He kissed her again...this time he moved deeper and she moved along with him...they broke the kiss with both of them gasping for air and a little bit dazed.
Unaware to them...her mother had opened the door with a key and there she stood with her father and a few other guests. Aarti almost died with shame and when she looked up at Yash...she found him smirking.
"Oh my God! He wanted this to happen all along."
