There was a topic right now which was closed regarding Gauhars non participation in Durga Puja...
It was shocking to see how members brought religion into the topic and said As Muslim one must distance oneself from other religion...sorry but every religion first teaches you to be respectful towards other religion and that includes showing your reverence to God in all forms...and I plainly refuse to believe that a popular religion as Islam can promote such beliefs...sorry!! I strongly feel that there are certain things even in religion which can be manipulated politically...and thats true for all beliefs...
If you dont want to participate in other festivities and think they will take you away from your religion...its your narrow mentality...do not blame it on your religion...pls!!!
If someone does not participate its fine but bringing religion into it is highly offensive...
Islam also teaches many other things right, it does not ask you to do item numbers or wear skimpy clothes but Gauhar does all that...where does her beliefs or her reverence to Allah go then???
And yes god does not get offended by lack of CAPS LOCK..so pls dont such promote such beliefs...
P.S: I m proud that my religion teaches me to be liberal and respect all other religions...And I m sure your religion does that too...so just dont write such things which would give it a bad name...
*No Offence to any sect but highly offended by the way members brought the religion thing!!!*

1. Religion, Caste - these things have been created by we humans and not by gods! So I have always maintained that one should have right to practice whatever religion he or she frees to do so and also has right to express herself towards god in different ways
2. <no offense to Muslim folks> The whole religion of Islam IS VERY STRICT. I have heard a lot of stories bout their ultimate belief in Allah and they are restricted from practising it. Also If you have seen Khan Sisters you will get to know Gauhar is from a very conservative Muslim family. She has ultimate faith in Allah and has right to not indulge in other activities if she doesn't believe in it. Atleast she is not faking it. She is being true to herself and to ones she is answer-able to

3. Everyone is untitled to ones views but at same point sorry to say but I feel it's bad to bring this whole My Religion IS BEST thing here. We are living in 21st century... Be mature!

So glad to see this topic!

I was beginning to think most people on this forum are narrow-minded, ignorant fools! I'm so glad most people in India do not have such a disgusting mentalty when participating in other religious festivals is considered being a traitor to your own religion.

This bigotry is indeed rare to see when you have all types of neighbors in India, each sharing in the others festivities and rituals, without their own beliefs being affected.

first of all i would like to say that i respect all religions and this is just my pov
if i am not mistaken, a few years ago, a fatwa was released against salman khan as he had taken part in a prayer with his mom as his mom is hindu.
im not sure, but i think that islam does not allow for muslims to pray to idols. (pls correct me if im wrong)
so, in order to avoid the controversy that would have taken place had she participated in the puja, she decided to stay away. i honestly dont see anything wrong in that, as she is not offending anyone. had she said something bad abt the puja then that would not have been right. taking part or not is her personal decision and we should not question that imo.

pls let me noe what u guys think! this discussion can definitely take place without hurting the sentiments of any religion! :)

Everyone was questioning why Gauhar didn't participate... And obvious answer was her religion didn't permit it to! I don't think any other stuff could have been included her...

Glad someone took a step to fill in some sense into the narrow minded heads on this forum.
participating in religious activities belonging to any religion is ones own call. I see around many muslims who visit temples and many hindus who visit mosques, same applies to other religions of India too.

Some narrow based assumptions are very dangerous. It is better to be non religious than to have such narrow thinking!

I can speak for my religion.
In Islam, we are taught to respect all the PEOPLE who are from different religions and NOT FORCE them to follow Islam by any means.
Our Prophet (SM) always respected and loved people from other beliefs.
Enjoying in other religious events is NOT disrespecting Islam. But performing other religion's rituals are Shirk according to Islam.
