(Earlier titled, "Angad ignores Josh")
This episode has KS firmly telling AK that she's not looking to get back with him because she doesn't believe in love, or feelings, or self-satisfaction; basically, she believes in nothing herself, but she can consider believing in making Prithvi happy. AK acts very non-AK-like about the whole thing and accepts it thoughtlessly. :-( Everybody else has problems with accepting anything at all: Naina can't accept that AK _still_ has something to do with KS and vice versa; Mother Bose can't accept that KS might actually get married to Prithvi; Honey Josh can't accept that AK is going to be very non-AK-like about the love in his heart. BTW, did I mention there was tonnes of AK-KS dance togetherness in this episode? Also that I kept imaging nursery rhymes today? On to the show:
(Warning: There were an inordinately vast amount of Hindi-Urdu words today that I didn't get. You'll probably see every point at which I'm wildly guessing what they mean. Please forgive me - it's ignorance, not malice!)
The first set starts where everyone's dream sequence of The Hug ends. Surprisingly AK moves back towards KS with a dawning light in his eye, pulls her with him as if to go put life together back on track. He gets an apparently rude shock: KS looks at him as if he's lost his marbles: she has no intention of getting on with AK again. He turns into a statue. KS goes into a long spiel of explaining to AK that she does want to get married to Prithvi.
Let's see: in how many ways can she do it? KS: AK and she had a crazy love, but - I must've zoned out because I think she said: their love was like a "twinkle, twinkle, little star; how she wonders where it is; sometimes near and sometimes far up high; like a diamond in the sky". She just couldn't depend upon it. Whereas Prithvi's love was always there. She is going to marry Prithvi.
AK asks here, quite inanely: You are calling our love a LooneyTune love? And what about _your_ happiness now? Are you happy? KS continues: happiness doesn't matter because she has lost all feelings, all emotions. Ever since her child died, everything that was alive in her has vanished. Nothing matters. Does AK know why she is marrying Prithvi? Well, for _his_ happiness. And so saying, she turns around and leaves.
(Point to note: when AK asked KS what about her happiness, he doesn't dare or care to ask: What about my happiness?
Point to note: when KS said that she would marry Prithvi to make him happy, despite getting no happiness out of it herself, AK doesn't dare or care to ask: Why not marry me instead?
But perhaps he can understand perfectly what she was saying about not wanting anything for herself. He had kept saying that same thing -- nothing matters -- in the previous episode.)
AK, looking after her: he knows that she won't break off her engagement to Prithvi. And if marrying Prithvi is what makes her smile, he will go along with it, because her smile is the closest he gets to happiness himself.
(Ugh.)
As KS is standing on the road waiting for a ride, AK comes out offering her a ride. KS doesn't think it's a good idea. AK says that after all this, the least that he can do is give her a ride home. She relents.
The second set starts with Naina on the same road (probably on the prowl for small lost children and puppy dogs). She's back to glaring and seething. But glaring and seething alone has such little satisfaction. So she runs to Khanna (oops, Sharma) House to do it in front of AK's dad and Kunning Karthik. She starts letting off KS-hate steam which Dilip hurridly moves to shut off! Will you please stop going on and on about KS and focus instead on getting your son back? and he storms off.
Of course, that leaves us with the headache of having to watch KKarthik and Naina regurgitate their standard expressions and lines! Kunning Karthik Kunningly taunts Naina about what she's going to do next. And Naina says (all together now!) that whatever has to be done, has to be done by her. (Applause, thank you, you have all been such a wonderful chorus!)
Naina runs off to make an insincere phone call to Mother Bose. (This scene actually gave me a bit of a laugh because it was unKannily similar to the scene where KKarthik runs off to make an insincere offer of friendship to Prithvi Bose!) Just like Prithvi gave KKarthik a shock by laughing in his face, Mother Bose shocks Naina by cheering her news that KS has been with AK! Does Naina think that after all the misery that KS has caused her children she would ever want KS to become part of her family? Naina is completely thrown: why the engagement then? Mother Bose, the Matriarch, says coldly: Because she don't want to lose Prithvi like Naina lost AK. Naina is shocked! Her "whatever has to be done, has to be done by her" plan, as always, has gone "Ring-around-the-roses; a pocket-full-of-posies; A-Tisha, A-Tisha; The plan falls down!"
Cut to: Fringed Gnome Prithvi in Prithvi-KS apartment, watching the clock. It looks like he has been doing that a lot lately. :-/ It's late when he hears a car drive up the road outside the flat. But his relief becomes sour when he sees that AK's driven KS home. It becomes even more sour when he sees the look on AK's face, watching KS walk away from the car. However, he is sunshine and light to KS when she walks in, dispirited and worried. He brushes her apologies off in a sunshiney manner, making her excuses for her: oh, you must've spent all this time going into the details of tomorrow's rehersals. Well, trot off to bed then, because she knows that she is not going to get any sleep once rehersals start! (He's _so_ sunshiney, he's almost _singing_ here!) KS has already got a world of a weight on her young brow, doesn't say a word and goes in. She hasn't quite left, but the sour, sour FGPrithvi face is back.
The third set starts with AK in white, KS in white, standing close. Their faces are so close that it wouldn't take much to move in for a kiss. A kiss might be on their minds but these two are also deeply troubled. AK (his T-shirt, rounded with red on the collar and sleeves) says that he will love her today, he will love her forever. He knows she is someone else's but that doesn't stop his love. And he knows that she loves him too, as madly, as passionately, and if the only way to make her live a happier life is if he was not in the picture, then he will go away, far away. Their eyes have filled to the brim; there is no doubting that these two are dying to be with each other, but cannot. And - Cut, shouts the director of the show.
AK&KS take a while to shift out of their "characters", to yank back to where they are, to get composed. All the while, watching from the sidelines is a long-eye-lashed FGPrithvi. (Seriously, ATandon beats both MIKhan and NBamb on the question of eyelashes!) He is tormented by the sight of our love-duo acting like lovers, dancing like lovers, like only AK&KS can.
Now that AK and KS know everything about the way each other feel (despite what KS said), there is nothing really standing in their way of relieving their love for each other through their dance. This is not the fiery spirited coupling of the early AK&KS days; it's not the desperate longing of the AK-imagining-dancing-with-KS days; this is we-are-hopelessly-in-love-and-dancing-is-the-ONLY-way-we -can-say-it dancing days.
FGPrithvi watches in almost repelled fascination as the two weave in and out of their comfortable, familiar steps, ending with AK holding KS close to his side, gently bent over his arm, looking deeply into her eyes. These two are making love to each other in front of the world, without a thought for anyone else. He watches as they stay that way a little longer than they should after the director shouts Cut. He watches as KS has to make an effort to come back him with a bright smile. He watches, sees and notes it all.
(BTW, I had the leisure to check it out: NO half-feet seperating _anything_ in this dance!)
The director wants KS to view her costumes; she asks Prithvi to accompany her. AK tags along behind them, when suddenly in front of them looms a dark, black-clad figure: Josh, looking difficult and dangerous, compared to the lightness of the AK&KS pair.
The trio are taken aback to hear Josh snarl at AK: So this is the way that you repay me, you scum bag. This is how you return your friendship -- scamming me out of my own show. Prithvi's genuinely startled: Josh, listen .. But Josh is snarling again! You?! Why should I listen to you? What is your word worth? You who arranged to help that scum get me out of the show. Prithvi and KS are genuinely worried; AK is troubled and things are all quiet and still and waiting to take a breath - when suddenly Josh breaks out into loud laughter!
See! He told AK that he would be able to fool Prithvi&KS! He won his bet! Relief is writ large on Prithvi&KS' face. They shake their heads at his little joke; AK looks quizzically at him. Josh is giddy with the thrill of having fooled them and rambles on: You seriously thought that I would ever resent your getting AK into a show with KS? Are you nuts? In any case, the AK-KS couple rocks far better than the Josh-KS couple, any day!
Suddenly, it is like a switch gets thrown in that group: KS gets a furrow in her brow. Well, ithere's not going to be an AK-KS couple beyond this show. Prithvi and she are going to be married very soon now. And after her marriage, she will not perform again! :-( KS stalks off, with Prithvi following her like a ..little lamb, little lamb, little lamb! Mary had a littl.. oh, sorry, this isn't nursery rhyme time, is it?
(But ugh, ugh, ugh! Is this the way that KS visualises life? Give up AK, give up music, give up anything that makes her who she is? UGH!)
Josh and AK watch as they go off, Josh with complete incredulity, AK with .. nothing. Josh explodes: What?? After all that she has found out about you, she's getting married to Prithvi? AK's quiet. The Josh Express is in full steam: How could she? What is she thinking of? Does she know of the tragedy of cosmic proportions that will follow? Splutter, splutter, What _is_ she thinking off?? AK's resolute: It's true and she is right. She is doing the right thing.
If Josh is steaming at KS, he gets apoplectic at AK! WHAT??!! You are condoning her action in this?? When the two of you are insanely in love with each other? AK's resigned and resolute: She doesn't feel she has any love left. Josh cannot believe his ears! That's what she might be saying, you moron, but you only have to look at the two of you to see that it is NOT TRUE! She has feelings, deep feelings and they are all for you! Don't be a coward about unlocking them, because they may come out rotten and difficult but when you hold them and hold her and let her heal, they will be the best thing that you will ever have earned for yourself! (Okay, that last line is mine, but this is what Josh _should_ have said to his cowardly Superman-wannabe friend, AK.)
AK, chicken-heart, is shaking his head resolutely: No, Josh what is happening is the right thing. Josh wants to break something, most probably AK's head! AK, listen to me, you love each other and you are going to help destroy three lives if you allow this marriage to happen. This is something that I have known for a long time, and I hope that by the time you see it, it's not too late. We see AK's face resolute and immovable, coming to...

Preview (for next week, NOT tomorrow or Monday): KS comes slowly towards Prithvi. He is smiling in welcome, but she looks shattered. He loses his smile slowly: what's wrong? She doesn't speak for a long while, but then hesistantly says: Why can't we get married quickly, sooner? Prithvi looks thrilled again: Sooner? Of course, we can. But.. Before he can finish, KS goes to him and drops her head on his chest. He hold her away: KS? The camera blurs on KS and Prithvi in the foreground, focuses behind them, because standing in the door, framed against the night is AK, who looks like his heart is breaking once again.
(Today was a tough episode to watch. No matter what, The Hug should've meant something. But both KS&AK are conspiring to make it so that it has no effect at all. :-( Perhaps all this time is still not enough for either or both of these "two wretched young lovers"(**) to have recovered from the terrible damage that has been brought to them. But why can't they see that there's no other way for them forward but to move into active combat!
Josh rocked because he wholly believes in the idea of everlasting love so much! For no reason, just based on a story he has heard from Alliyah, and his watching AK and KS, he believes that theirs is the everlasting love story of the year, decade, century. He rocks because he cares about AK's heart, as much as we on the KYPH-IF do.
And someone should care, because AK himself is doing a terrible job at self-preservation. No matter how bad life gets, it is just not right to give up on your life - and that includes your heart as much as your mind. AK might as well commit suicide because he's just not doing anything! And I am perpetually haunted that there has to be a death in AK's life to match the death in KS' and that the evil KYPH writers will hand over the life of our Honey Josh in sacrifice to the greedy needs of their story. :-(
There are shades of Othello in the Prithvi situation. Prithvi/Othello, watching his KS/Desdemona like a hawk, but only after Iago starts poisoning his mind. And our poor Othello has not just one, but a multitude of Iagos: starting from Mother Bose to KKarthik.
Well: this is the weekend gap coming up. Nothing much to do except kick back and sink in the good new memories and ponder on how not to kill Josh while giving Prince AK a good kick in the pants to think about how to get Princess KS out of her impenetrable High Tower.
Please let it not be a "Good night, sweet Prince" for Josh.
