I guess she is soo busy with her Hindi movie assignments that didn't find to the time to learn the language...when you have Salman as savior...speaking in Hindi hardly matters

Everybody has a different learning curve. Some people pick up languages faster than others. It also doesn't help that mostly everybody conversates in English nowadays, even in India.
Also its kind of foolish comparing a foreigner trying to learn Hindi to an Indian who speaks Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu or so forth. Its much easier to grasp Hindi if you speak those languages fluently. Lot of Indian people can only speak English but understand their native tongues because they hear there parents speak it every day.

No time limit to learn a new language. Every person is different. She doesn't need it or use it in her daily life. As far as films are concerned she's passable.

in short it all depends on a person, if the person wants to learn they will as there is no time limit and frame for it , i had seen some of her interviews and there is no effort or interest from her even to utter a single hindi word , waise bhi our indian actors behave as if its paap to give interviews in hindi ,tho wat to expect from her ... t

There are people living IN INDIA, who dont know a single word of Hindi and are more horrible at Hindi than Katrina. I found this out while watching some reality shows especially the singing and dancing ones where people from unknown areas show up.
They will come, they will sing a song - IN HINDI...and then when the judges talk to them in Hindi, they will be confused and not understand at all and speak in English. There are people like that.
I just think this forum is so dramatic and over-analytical. Katrina is not that bad, maybe she doesn't WANT to use hindi off-screen, maybe she just wants to understand and use it on-screen. Speaking in Hindi is a part of her profession - shes improved a lot. I can see why she wouldn't use it off-screen.
I am Indian, understand hindi fully, but didn't actually use it until I went to India in 2010. Now, I am speak comfortably but I would prefer to speak in English.

To be frank i dont think that Katrina doesnt know or understand hindi. Infact if you observe KBC and other tv shows where she went for movie promotions, she would understand the host speaking in hindi but would answer in English. So basically miss Katrina Kaif doesnt choose to speak hindi, she wants to potray everywhere and every generation that she is a non indian and would remain so. Maybe that is her idea of Being Unique Human..

First of all Hindi is not a national language of India but majority of them understand especially since its spoken in Northern Belt.

Now if you ask South Indian to speak hindi...lot of them won't know it or they will speak in broken Hindi. Nothing wrong in it. They don't make a living out of it. Its not part of their work to speak Hindi.

Regarding Katrina she is acting in a Hindi movie. She has all the money in the world to hire a top notch Hindi tutor to learn the language. Not learning the language is going to impact only one person and that is Katrina. Her acting suffers because of that. I think even her Hindi dialogues are written in English so it becomes easy for her to dub.

Dilip Kumar, Ab Sr made a leaving out of dialogue delivery and their ability to speak pure Hindi. Ability to speak good language is a part and parcel of any good actor.

Even with Gujarati, I learned it because of my surroundings and my baa who didn't know a word of English. I never took Gujarati classes or never even lived in Gujarat. I was born and raised in the USA my entire life. I've never even lived in Gujarat for even 3 months. I learned it because I was constantly around the language. I learned how to SPEAK it because of my surroundings.

I'm kind of surprised that an actress like Katrina who has actually now LIVED in India for some time still isn't able to grasp the mother tongue when someone like me who lives in a Non Indian locality can fluently speak not just my own personal native tongue but also India's.

I don't know, but even our films are like 20% in English these days. When I went to Mumbai people preferred talking in English over Hindi, so I don't get why people are always blaming Kat when infact it's the whole industry. If we take all the youngsters like Arjun Kapoor.. most of them prefer talking in English. I can actually speak and understand A LOT of languages and I have been hearing Hindi since I was very young, so I can understand like 99.5% of it. But I don't think I realized how bad I was at speaking it until I had to form a proper correct sentence. For some it's hard to lose their accent, that's why you can still hear the accent in Kat's Hindi. Some people just speak it without giving a damn about the small grammatical errors, and some just don't because they feel too embarrassed.. and Kat seems to be a part of the latter ones.

And Hindi is the official and main language of India, along with English. Punjabi, Gujrati etc are all regional languages and official languages of those particular states where its spoken by a huge amount of people.
