ive watch every version there is...every single one made me wanna pull my hair out. i dnt think anyones been able to capture the true essence of the novel. they all seem so rushed. its amazing that Austen was able to invoke so many emotions in such a short book when authors today write twice as much and rarely leave an impact.
In most of the movies, Elizabeth comes across as a snob. And mostly, its Mr Darcys character 😳...no actor can measure up to him EXCEPT Colin Firth!!!!!!! he was delicious in the Pride and Prejudice series.
Agree. Austen Heroines are tricky to play b/c they are flawed, massively. In the books, the character goes through so many personal obstacles and there's a nice development, which films/actresses sometimes fail to capture. I thought Jennifer Ehle was the best Lizzy from all the versions I saw. However, that version is the only one that's let the character play out like the novel does b/c it's such a long series.
Look at Aisha, when played wrong Emma comes off with a lack of audience empathy. However the readers know that she's a product of a hypodronaic father and her limitations on knowledge and experience cause her to act in such a selfish manner, even though her motives to her are selfless. Basically, she is redeemable. Just like Romola Garai in the newest Emma.
I think Aishu did a decent job with what she was given, but it wasn't the best version ever.
