Yes. That's exactly why I've been arguing that people should understand that there's a clear distinction between practicing Muslims and non-practicing Muslims. If people continue to hound the lack of Islamic values on the show, then there are countless other [worse] examples/issues that everyone silently overlook.

Bottom line remains that this is an Indian-Muslim family of non-practicing Muslims. It does not mean that they aren't Muslims. But they obviously aren't practicing Muslims. Which is why it doesn't make sense that there's an ongoing debate around Zoya's miniskirt and whatnot. Because the foundation of a practicing Muslim family is that they follow what is fard, in which case Zoya would have to wear a Hijaab on the show, pray five times a day, make sure that she isn't alone with Asad under any circumstances, etc.

And in THAT case, we wouldn't even have a show.

Maybe the show reflects the kind of Indian-Muslim environment that Gul Khan has grown up in, or know of. Right or wrong. It exists.

This is the only thing that I discovered from this skirt fiasco.
Neither party is ever going to see eye to eye because there is a fundamental disagreement in our thinking. One section thinks, including me, that everyone in this world should have the right to do what they like, which includes wear what they want. This section thinks that clothes do not maketh a person, rather the heart maketh a person. Other section is heavily influenced by religion, not that the people in the first section are not religious, and they think completely oppositely. The two sections were most likely raised in a very different environment, thus the different results. Regardless, at the cruz of the matter is that there is a fundamental disagreement because some are true liberals while others are orthodox. So can we just leave this topic now.
The more we talk about it, the more this forum becomes hostile. So can we stop it now? The phrase shutting our trap comes to mind, seems very fitting.

"Liberal" and "orthodox" are terms that have very little to do with Islam. They're terms related to Western/Eastern cultural structures and traditions rather than Islam. In the end, if you follow a certain ideology with the belief that there's a divine power that has set the rules for you, then choosing not to follow the rules because you believe they're "orthodox" doesn't make sense.

More than liberal and orthodox, it's ignorance that's the issue in most Muslim societies. People have been brought up in a certain way and they don't seek knowledge, or attempt to understand their ideology on a deeper level, which results in lack of knowledge and the following of cultural or traditional norms rather than divine rules.

I agree that there's no point in debating the issue any further though. It's been well-stretched.

Yes, to be Muslim all you really need to do is believe in Allah but there are also certain rules you must follow. I realize that plenty of Muslims girls don't cover themselves but that doesn't change the fact that modesty is a very important part of faith in Islam. There's a lot of things that Muslims do which Islam doesn't permit. There are Muslims that drink alcohol too, does that mean that it's ok to do so?

Zoya lives in a conservative household where both men AND women are discouraged from doing anything which Islam doesn't allow. Therefore the outrage at her wearing a mini skirt to me makes complete sense.

Anyway I'm not really surprised that the mini-skirt issue was brought up and that Zoya will now convince everyone that there is nothing wrong in dressing the way she does. Indian television and movies usually tend to show things which aren't permissible in Islam in a positive light in order to show Muslims how to be "liberal." QH doesn't really represent Islam very much anyway, besides the fact that the characters say salaam and pray once in a million years.

u have jus preached it correctly man! that is what i have been saying day one.

If that was the case then everyone would be called religious! Islam doesn't allow a female to wear clothes which are reviling any body part or attract the opposit sex. Which is why zoya wearing a mini skirt isn't approved for a muslim girl! Some people are saying that they he seen worse in west. My question to you would be, do you think if they really practiced Islam or knew what Islam really is would they be wearing those clothes?! I was born in Pakistan but raised in Canada an all my life I have worn shalwar kamiez and hijab and still I am very modern! I can keep up with the west. So my point is zoya shouldn't have to wear jeans/ mini to show that she is so called liberal!

You want "west" to consider you as liberal, despite your hijab. Then why are you being judgemental about a girl's religion? God will judge, who amongst you are better Muslims. In general, wearing clothes which are not revealing, is part of south Asian countries irrespective of religion. But we do see girls who don't want to follow conservative rules. Whether we dress like them are not, we are nobody to question their religiousness. Even going to babas or fakir is probably not Islamic. But for some old poor people, it is right. Who are we to say, their faith is wrong, ours is right?
