Yes, to be Muslim all you really need to do is believe in Allah but there are also certain rules you must follow. I realize that plenty of Muslims girls don't cover themselves but that doesn't change the fact that modesty is a very important part of faith in Islam. There's a lot of things that Muslims do which Islam doesn't permit. There are Muslims that drink alcohol too, does that mean that it's ok to do so?

Zoya lives in a conservative household where both men AND women are discouraged from doing anything which Islam doesn't allow. Therefore the outrage at her wearing a mini skirt to me makes complete sense.

Anyway I'm not really surprised that the mini-skirt issue was brought up and that Zoya will now convince everyone that there is nothing wrong in dressing the way she does. Indian television and movies usually tend to show things which aren't permissible in Islam in a positive light in order to show Muslims how to be "liberal." QH doesn't really represent Islam very much anyway, besides the fact that the characters say salaam and pray once in a million years.

In fact I am shocked by the comments here as well. I guess we represent very different parts of Muslim population. Who is a true Muslim and who is not, I don't think mere humans can decide that. But, one thing for sure, QH is at least initiating discussion between very different segments of Muslim population.

No QH does not represent Muslim culture. It was told that this story is set on a Muslim BG , as in the characters are Muslim that's it. It is no way represents Muslim culture.
Anyway Muslim culture here in India is much different. Being a non Muslim I grew up with many Muslim friends and never ever thought or realized that we are different by any way. I think some people from other more conservative BG fails to understand that. My roomies wore clothes much shorter and revealing than Zoe for various occasions and even their parents , friends and family didn't object.
Whatever please stop this nonsense. It's too much now. If someone can't handle the stuffs shown please skip that part and please don't bring religion in the forum. India is a secular country and here things are different than other countries mostly.

i don't get what wearing a skirt has to do with respecting any religion more

and the skirt was representative of not judging someone or their character by their clothes bc Asad always judges Zoya by her clothes.

it did not have anything to do with religion...everyone fighting for the skirt issue or against the skirt issue should really understand this. In fact, nothing is this show is a representation of Islam.

Im a muslim and I wear everything shalwaar kameez jeans skirts everything. Like zoya has said no one can juge a person by there clothes. Also this is a modern show as we can see they don't read namaz 5 times a day or wear hijabs when they go out.and its a drama not a religious show. In Sikhism your not allowed to cut hair or show body yet again dramas show modern girls short hair less clothes. Look at Pakistan dramas they too have girls who are muslims showing legs arms etc. For god sake why is it always issues in this Muslim serial.its pathetic. We should watch the show enjoy discuss the story line and not the religious side all the time. Unless of course its in the story. Thank you

very well said.
i too had muslim classmates in school and their clothing was such and noone ever judged them or even commented, forget doubting their religious sentiments!!

i dont understand why religion is being brought in so strongly in this matter.

killing people and all kinds of evil things are being done by razia and tanveer , but no objections to that?? a skirt causes so much uproar!!

No offense but you can't sit there and put tags on who's a Muslim and who's not, I don't know if you yourself is a Muslim or not, but if you know even a little bit of the religion then you should also know that you are nobody to judge or put that tag on people, only God can decide that, and sure one should dress appropriate but this is not the only thing one should follow, and let's face it nobody today follows all the rules, and that doesn't make them non Muslims nor does it give anybody but Allah the right to call them that, I can't believe that there is so much talk over one skirt, sure it was way to short, but that's the point!! It was suppose to be to much. And lets not forget that Gul Khan is a Muslim herself, she know's what she's doing.

once again no offence, I'm not just saying this to you, but to all of those who call girls that wear skirts and short dresses non Muslims, you may know a lot about the religion but there's other people that knows a lot as well and our clothes doesn't change our religion or our beliefs!! unless you go wayyy to far 😆

But such reaction for a show set in India!? Really!?!? Why no one complained when girls wore mini skirts in DMG? and incase u guys didn't notice she wore the skirt to show Najma only! What was so wrong in that!?

I am glad they have shown Zoya as liberal! It makes non Muslims like me respect Islam more!

Actually, females are allowed to wear miniskirts in Islam as long as they're among other women. In that sense, Zoya isn't particularly liberal, because [as you pointed out] she only intended to show it to Najma, being told that Asad wasn't home.

However, they made a small blooper by having her reveal that in NY she wore it all the time. They should've instead made it a point that she wore it all the time in the privacy of her home since Islam doesn't prohibit it unless a man is around -- with the exception of your husband.

I still believe that they were true to Zoya's character -- but the scene itself could've been executed better and in a more logical manner that stayed true to the Islamic values that she preaches about sustaining despite her modern upbringing.

I agree with you about it being an Indian show as it explains the cliches.

I agree. The actual distinction should be made between practicing Muslims and non-practicing Muslims. For instance, a practicing Muslim would be someone who wore Hijaab, prayed five times a day, followed the fard rules. But a non-practicing Muslim would be someone who did neither. However, that wouldn't make her a non-Muslim.
