What's in a name?😕

How important can the choice of name for a child be? 😃😕😕

What weird names have you come across? 😉

Olivia and Jack are the the most popular names for babies born in England and Wales in 2006.😊

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show Olivia replaces Jessica as the top name for girls. Jack remains in first place for boys for the 12th year in a row.😉😉😊

Harry, Alfie and Harrison have risen strongly within the top 50, as have Ruby, Lily and Jasmine. Out of the top 50 go Libby, Aimee and Niamh along with Toby, Brandon and Charles.😳

😕 How did you decide what to call your child? Can a 'good' or 'bad' name influence your character? Do you have, or have you encountered, a strange or unusual name? What names would you like to see become popular again? Send us your views. 😉

Waht say ????😳😕😳

"Having lived in Texas, I am impressed at the number of kids with Texas place names as their first name. I've heard of Houston, Austin, Dallas, and probably others.'

Well America has lots of places which could be used as first names eg Brooklyn Imagine a poor child named after a British town - Bury Widnes Wigan Sheffield Liverpool???!!! Dont think so! Although I bet someone lets me know better!"

😆😆 kidding.

I think name is important! If one's name isn't out of the world, it doesn't quite matter. "EIN STEIN !! " I rest my case..
Yet, it is good to have a nice name.

well i'm pretty satisfied with the name my grandfather gave me..."himani"...although some americans do kill it by calling me "hermione" or even worse "armani" 😕😛...im still happy with it 😃 my old chemistry teacher had named his daughter "brooklyn"...i thought that was pretty cool 😊 because then she could get one of those sweatshirts from souvenier shops that said "brooklyn" on the back 😛 😉 ok, not just for the sweatshirt, i like it as a name too 😛

what i'd like to know, guys, is that do you think that if someone had an unusual name (no offense...some may think of this as a beautiful name) like "abercrombie" (yeah, there's a guy with that name😛), would that affect their behavior in public? esp. when it comes to roll-calling...we have plenty of issues when we're taking attendance at school. would that matter anytime else though?🤔

Okk I will just answer to what is in the name?

Name is your Identity. Even how you spell it is important for passport, visa and for degrees. Once it is registered it is the name you are known to the world, then you may be known to a section of people by other name.

Also the value of name differs from a few bucks to lakhs and millions. A copyright/patent violation case can give a big run for money and big cost for name 😆

So name definitely has the weight in real life more for its use than its meaning 😃

Name actually is very important.

The name of your child and the meaning of the name will reflect somewhere in the child's life.

For example, my name is Monica, and it's a latin word for "advisor", and you won't believe how much it's true. I end giving so much advice, and many of my friends also come to ask me for advice (no joke)😆

What is in name?

Name has something todo with our identity but not everything.Naming our kids or renaming ourselves on India Forums is in our hands ,so we can do it on our personal interest and craziness.

My screen name(here screen is India Forums right!!) is Mythili.I like the name soooo much from my childhood, its my pen name also.

Sometimes ,in real life the names we get are paradoxical to our nature.Say some one is Lata(creeper) if she is like a trunk it looks little bit humourous.

Say one's name is Vidya (a synonym for Knowledge Goddess Saraswathi) and if that girl is Avidya( not intelligent ) its just senseless.

So naming kids is really a herculian tasks and its better we go for names which don't describe the person's physical features or intelligence.

Last but not least,

Intelligence and character of a person give beauty to their names.Whatever is the name we love the name if the person is sweet by nature and intelligent.See ! I really don't mind what's the real name of Abhijit Shukla ji or Jatayu ji or Maya ji or Merimaid ji or TallyHo ji because I adore them as persons, name is just for namesake....

cheers,

Mythili

cola ji! I think my brain in somewhere near this post so I posted this in detail.

I agree with you completely. You know we have soo many People in India who mispronounce the name like they will spell :Shabri" with "sabri". Either B with V or Sh wih S etc..

And My full name is Savita but my papa doesn't know how to pronounce it (joke of the millenium)😡 And i m very irate when he calls me sweettaa, hate it but love it also since when he says i just hear the sweetness, hope, trust in my name in me.😳

Soo name is very important but if the person pronounce the name very sweetly and doen't do it purposely......its ok.

As regards to famous name, Krish is on no. 1 because of the movie and also because it is short form of "Krishna". I like all names which means God like ram, krishna, keshav, savita, ashutosh, shruti, sanidhya, shivam, rudra etc...
