The scale of Dhurandhar: The Revenge may be massive, but its production has hit a serious civic roadblock in Mumbai. What was meant to be a high energy shoot has now snowballed into a legal controversy involving heritage zones, fire safety, and possible blacklisting.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has initiated permanent closure proceedings against filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s B62 Studios after repeated safety breaches during filming in South Mumbai.
Fire Violations At Fort Raise Alarm
https://www.instagram.com/p/DU2IOSRDCN4/The primary issue stems from the alleged use of combustible props in the protected Fort heritage precinct. Civic officials claim the production continued to use open flames despite prior warnings. Authorities had reportedly instructed the team to avoid any fire based elements, especially in crowded and historically sensitive locations.
During a late night shoot on February 14, police officers seized five burning torches from the set. This action followed earlier cautions and even financial penalties. For the BMC, this was not a minor lapse but a direct violation of safety norms designed to protect public property and bystanders.
Portal Access Suspended, Blacklisting Proposed
Beyond fines, the consequences could severely impact the studio’s future projects. The BMC has restricted B62 Studios and its listed applicant from accessing the Maharashtra Film Stage and Cultural Development Corporation online portal. Without clearance through this system, obtaining legal shooting permissions across Mumbai becomes nearly impossible.
Officials have also recommended forfeiture of security deposits and penalties for allegedly running generator vans without authorization and filming on rooftops without civic approval.
Industry Message Gets Louder
A resolution backed by the Deputy Municipal Commissioner underscores a larger message for the film fraternity. Civic permissions are not optional, even for big banner productions. Heritage zones, especially, demand strict compliance.
As of now, there has been no formal statement from B62 Studios or Aditya Dhar. With a proposed ban looming, the coming days will decide whether Dhurandhar The Revenge overcomes this setback or faces prolonged disruption.
