Chapter 7 ---- Surprises
Purvi's mind was in total chaos. Guests had already begun arriving for the party and she was not even dressed yet. There were so many things to be done. she wanted this party to run smoothly for her baba. All she could think about was that tonight her father's business partners and friends would be there. She forgot that tonight was actually about her.
Her brother Sachin had just walked in when he noticed his sister. "Purvi, why aren't you dressed yet? Go get changed."
"But dada, there are so many things to do."
"Go get dressed, I'll handle everything here."Sachin gave his sister a bear hug and sent her to her bedroom. He shook his head. Purvi was always like this. She always wanted perfection and she never gave a thought about herself. Her happiness always came from helping others. She was such a sweet child. Sachin wished that his mother would threat Purvi like her daughter, but Archana was to caught up being a socialite tha she hardly had time for her kids.
Sachin was lost in thought that he didn't notice someone standing beside him. it took alot of throat clearing by the other person for Sachin to finally notice the aged gentleman standing beside him.
"Sachin my boy, you're looking great. You seem relaxed." the man stretched out his arms to embrace Sachin.
"Grandfather!"Sachin threw himself into his grandfather's arms."What a pleasant surprise! I thought you were still in Singapore."
Sachin looked at his grandfather with so much of love. He missed him so much. Manohar had been touring the world ever since he had retired. Sulochana, his wife had opted to stay at home preferring to stay close to her children.
"Grandfather, does baba and aai know you are here? How was your trip? Did you meet aaji? You must be tired. Do you want to rest?"
"Slow down my boy. I only just got in and i came straight here. No one knows that I am here. I want to give everyone a big surprise!"
Sachin smiled at his grandfather. "well you are definetely going to surprise everyone. Let me take your bags. You can go freshen up."
" Oh Sachin, don't even mention my being her to Purvi. I want to give her a big surprise."
Sachin smiled as he watched his role model walk away. Yes, Purvi was in for a big surprised. He turned to supervise the caters and then went to get changed himself.
Mean while, Purvi was busy pacing her room. She was yet to get dressed. There was a gentle knock on her door. It was her best friend Teju.
Purvi seemed surprised to see Teju. "Teju! what are you doing here? I thought you were gone for the summer?"Teju was supposed to be in London on a summer intership programme.
"Well i couldn't miss my Best friend's birthday. I requested some time off. I flew in this morning."
Tears filled Purvi's eyes and she threw herself into Teju arms.
'Tej you're the best. You flew all this way just to be here on my birthday? this really is an awesome surprise."
"Well Ms. Deshmukh, i am your best friend after all. Who else is gonna help you get dressed? Who is gonna do your make up?"
Purvi smiled at her friend. Teju had such a vibrant personality that you just had to love her.
"Go shower so i can help you get dressed! The guests are arriving."
Purvi went to shower.
In the car:
Arjun couldn't stop thinking about the lovely girl who had bumped into him. he wanted so babdly to meet her but he had no idea where to start to look for her. His cell phone rang but he ignored the call. It was a call from Ovi, his financee. He felt no desire to speak to her. He knew what she would say, since all their conversations were the same. Ovi would just babble about her wardrobe, make up and shoes. She would mentioned about her modelling gig. and then she would talk some more about something that least interested him. The phone continued to ring until it went to voicemail. He looked at it and sighed. He felt guilty for thinking such thoughts and decided to call Ovi back. He started to dial her number but thought better of it. He decided he would deal with Ovi later.
He was on his way to a birthday party, one that he had no desire to be in. He was just going because Manav had invited him. He had no idea that he was actually going to meet the girl of his dreams...
