Chapter 5 ---- Birthday Preparations
Meanwhile, Purvi's mind was in chaos. She had so many things still be done. Her father was throwing her a grand birthday party. He had invited all his business associates and colleagues. Manav Deshmukh always did things on a grand scale and this party was no exception. Purvi took it upon herself to ensure that everything ran smoothly. The maids tried to get her to stop working as it was her birthday and this party was for her but she continued to oversee everything. Her baba meant the world to her and she wanted him to enjoy this party because he was a workaholic and needed a much deserve break. "Tonight has to be perfect." Purvi thought.
She looked around the beautifully decorated mansion and smiled. It looked perfect. There were dozens of orchids all around the hall. Liles were her favourite flowers. Balloons of all shapes, sizes and colours hung all around. Purvi loved it. She smiled. She decided to call her dad. He answered on the first ring.
"Hey birthday girl!"
"Hey baba."
"So how are the preparations going? Is it to your likings princess?"
"Yes baba. The room is wonderfully decorated. I can't wait for tonight."
Manav smiled. He loved his daughter very much and would do anything for her.
"Oh by the way princess, I've ordered your favourite cake. It's supposed to be delivered shortly."
Now it was Purvi's turn to smile. Her baba never forgot her likes and dislikes.
"Red Velvet Cake!!!!! Yummy. I can't wait baba."
"Princess, I almost forgot, I got you an early present. It's in your room. I want you to wear it tonight."
"oh baba, you're the best. I love you so much. Thank you."
"No need to thank me dear. I'll be home as soon as I can."
Purvi hung up the phone and sped towards her room. Archana her mother was just coming down the stairs when Purvi crashed into her.
"Purvi! What's this all about?"
"Aai, I'm sorry. Baba said he got me a present, I was just rushing to see what it was."
"I really don't know why Manav spoils you so much!" Archana said.
Purvi was about to say something but thought better of it. Ever since she could remember, her mother had always treated her as though she was a step child. She could never figure out what she had done to offend her. She's had asked her father about it but all he said was to give Archana some time.
Archana walked away annoyed and left Purvi on the staircase. Purvi looked hurt but vowed once again that she would win her mother's heart.
She ran up to her bedroom and there lying on the bed was one of the most exquisite gowns she had ever seen. It was a turquoise halter dress with simmering sequences. The gown was long and flowing. Purvi loved it immediately. She hastily tried it on. It accentuated her figure flawlessly. She was busy admiring herself in the mirror when something sparkly caught her eye. She walked over to her dressing table and found a tiara and a turquoise colour diamond necklace. The note next to it said "For the world's most beautiful princess. Hope you like it. Love Baba."
Tears welled up in her eyes. Her father was the best. She was just about to call him again when a pair of cufflinks caught her eyes. She had forgotten about said cufflinks the moment she had laid them on her dressing table. Now she found herself thinking of the handsome man she'd bumped into earlier. Purvi wondered what it would be like to be held in his strong muscular arms. She looked away from the mirror, embarrassed that she had thought that. Such thoughts had never entered her head before. She thought she was losing her marbles. Why was she thinking about this stranger? She had no connections to him and yet she felt that she had known him all her life.
Purvi took the cufflinks and gazed at them. "I'll definitely return these to you Arjun Sir.! I don't know how, but I will."..
