CHAPTER 7
Mrs. Pooja Arora had come back to punish the woman who had taken her daughter's place in her son-in-law's life. Arnav's life. She had never seen or met Khushi but had heard a lot about her beauty and wit and how amazing she was. Pooja refused to believe that the girl was as pure and innocent as people made her out to be. How else had she snared such a rich husband for herself? How else did she manage to take her daughter, her Prachi's place in his life? "I'll never forgive that girl Khushi. Never. I'll see how she manages to get married to MY son in law",she said to herself and smiled.
--------------
Devi Maiyya wondered how these evil women manage to smile those evil smiles which would definitely give Mahishasur a run for his money.
--------------
Mrs Arora made her way towards the regal looking woman..Arnav's Nani. "Devyani ji?" she said. As Devyani turned around with a smile to greet the one who had called her and her smile froze. "Pooja?" Nani whispered faintly.
Devyani Singh Raizada was a well experienced lady in life. She knew what women like Pooja Arora were capable of. She knew how she had threatened Arnav with his life when he had declared that he wanted to divorce Prachi. Even after knowing that divorce was their mutual decision. Pooja was jealous and felt that she would no longer have access to Raizada's riches and luxuries and hence had done everything possible to hinder their divorce...but Prachi was a sensible girl. Not only did she deny alimony but she had held her head high and walked out of Arnav's life in a very dignified manner, earning everyone's respect. But she wasn't able to gauge her mother's reaction properly and never would have imagined that her mother would come to Arnav's engagement ceremony like this.
"Oh please Devyani ji! Don't act as if you have seen a ghost. Sure I am in my fifties but I don't look any less than a woman in thirties now, do I?" She screeched. Devyani managed a smile. She sent a quick prayer to Devi Maiyya to handle everything. "Of course not Pooja. Of course not. How are you? And though I am surprised that you have come to my grandson's engagement ceremony I can't help but feel grateful for your presence" She lied through her teeth. Oh for god's sake. She didn't even invite her to any wedding ceremony and knew why Pooja was here. She had to act fast before she could hurt her Khushi bitiya and Chotay.
-----------------------------
"Nani! Nani...Where-" Anjali was walking towards her Nani when she stopped short. Anjali paled. Mrs Arora was smiling her sickly sweet smile at her Nani and Nani looked visibly upset. Shit. No. She HAD to do something, anything to make that old witch leave. She cannot let anyone..ANYONE eclipse her Chotay's Happiness. Literally. Thankfully, Mrs Arora had not seen her. She had to act and act fast. She turned around to find her husband when she collided into a warm solid wall of chest. "Rani Sahiba? Please be Careful." He admonished her gently. Catching her by her shoulders. "What if something would have-" His scolding stopped mid way when he saw Anjali looking helplessly at him. His eyes suddenly became more concerned. If that was even possible. "Anjali? What happened?" He knew something bad had happened. Something bad enough to make his Rani Sahiba upset during her beloved brother's engagement.
"Anjali?" He shook her again to get her out of her trance. "Shyam ji? Shyam ji! Shyam ji.. suniye...Mrs Arora..she..Chotay..Khushi bhabhi...Shyam ji.." her words tumbling out of her mouth in a hurry and making her sentences incoherent. Had she not looked so upset Shyam would have took his wife in his arms and kissed her confusion off her pretty face. But. He would have to do that some other time. He sighed. "WAIT Rani Sahiba. And sit down. And then tell me what's wrong?" Anjali was grateful for her husband's support or she would have fainted out of worry right there. She sat down and told him what the problem was. Shyam swore. Pooja Arora was not a good news. Not at all. That woman was gold digger, selfish, immoral old witch. She also never failed to greet Arnav,Akaash and Shyam in her extra sickly sweet manner ...making him want to puke everytime she used to hug him and greet him. She was bad, bad news. He decided to talk to Arnav ...when he saw her walking towards Arnav and Khushi. He swore profusely. He got up instantly only to be held back by his wife. "Where are you going?" Asked Anjali, worriedly. God. Sometimes his wife could be dense too. "Rani Sahiba..I have to go. Or esle Mrs Arora...you sit here. I'll come in a while" He hurriedly said and Anjali bobbed her pretty head in agreement. He stormed off towards Mrs Arora. He had to stop that woman.
----------------------------
"Akaash! Akaash! Stop ogling Payal ji for a second and see. THERE." NK forcefully turned Akaash around, towards Mrs Arora. Akaash's eyes almost popped out of his sockets. This spelled trouble. NK and Akaash hurried towards her. No. Not Khushi Bhabhi. Akaash swore under his breath.
--------------------------
Suddenly there was a commotion. Mrs. Arora was cornered by 3 tall, healthy men and an old woman. "Excuse me?" She screeched. Had she been not present here NK would have stuffed something in her loud mouth. Her voice was like nails clawing on a blackboard. Yes. That bad.
"Uh! Hello Mrs Arora. How are you doing? I hope good. Now let me get something for you to eat. Let's go. You have not even had anything and you look tired, don't you want to eat..lets go?" Nani ji said in a rush and almost pleading her to eat something before Akaash, NK or Shyam could say anything scathing. Making things worse.
"Oh! Thank you for the concern Devyani ji, but no. I would first like to meet the bride and..my son in law..oops! I mean the groom" She said. UGH. This woman deserved to be shipped off to Honolulu. Thought Shyam. She was a bitch.
Akaash and NK and Nani wanted to claw her eyes out. How dare she?
Shyam needed to act and act fast. But she wouldn't rest without meeting Khushi ji, so he'll make them meet, he thought. BUT he won't allow her to hurt their Khushi ji. No way. So he shared the look which said- "let me handle" with other three and put his arm around Mrs Arora in a friendly fashion only to feel as if he would spew anytime. Her smile. God. It was grossly creepy. "Mrs Arora, let me take you to meet the bride." He somehow forced the words out of his mouth. "Oh Shyam! You are the only one with good manners left in this Raizada family I suppose. Thank you SO much Shyam" She said. Putting extra emphasis on his name. He gulped. He needed to get over with this soon. Nk thumped him on his back subtly. "Thanks Bro" He mouthed.
-------------------------
Khushi and Arnav were lost in their own world. They were sitting and holding hands while guests were coming up to bless the newly engaged couple. Suddenly Khushi felt Arnav going stiff at her side. And she looked up at him only to be shocked at what he saw in his eyes. Unadulterated fury.
She followed his line of sight to see a middle aged woman coming their way. She was about to ask him why he was behaving so strangely when she felt Arnav's hand tighten on hers and he suddenly whispered in her ear- "Khushi, the woman who is coming our way is a witch. Whatever she says or does, please ignore it. Rest, I will handle." Khushi couldn't understand what was going on and why her Arnav ji was behaving like this. He always respected women then why did it look as if he loathed that woman? Before she could say or do anything she felt that very same middle aged heavy woman throwing herself on her Arnav ji.
What the-? Kushi thought, shocked.
