PART 4: Let's make way for "forever"
Shashi ji and Garima had done every preparation for shagun and roka ceremony. Payal was busy with decorations...and Garima was busy in the kitchen. "Amma? Do you want some help? I'll help you with snacks and-" Khushi was cut short by Garima's furious reply, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? Khoosieee you-" Garima's rant was stopped by bua ji- "ARRE O SANKA DEVI! Tum abhe tak taiiyaar nahi huii ho? Arnav babua must be on his way. GO! Get Ready right NOW!" Ordered a flustered Bua ji. Bua ji had come specially from Lucknow for her titaliya's shaadi. 'When did she grow up?' She thought nostalgically.
Khushi giggled at her parents' and bua ji's nervousness. Everyone was nervous. They all wanted everything to be perfect for the Raizadas. Everything. "Yes boss." Khushi grinned at bua ji and mockingly saluted her. Bua ji lifted her hand to spank her when Khushi dodged her Dhai kilo ka haath and ran away laughing...
Garima stared at Khushi's laughing form..running away happily. Her eyes misted. Her daughter had been the happiest after her rishta with Arnav had been fixed. There was a natural blush on her cheeks..her eyes sparkled and her skin glowed simply from happiness within. If this was not love, what was? She sighed. She fervently prayed for her daughter's happiness and well being. Arnav was a very nice man. And both of them deserved each other.
"Arre O Garima..where did you get lost? Hurry up! The Raizadas must be on their way now",Bua ji broke in her thoughts!
"Khushi! You look...amazing" Gushed Payal. Khushi sat in front of her dressing table..looking at herself. She was wearing a sky blue saree studded all over with small stones. It looked as if she was wearing all the stars in the sky. Her head was adorned with a simple yet elegant tikka with a small pearl drop hanging delicately between her brows..her ears adorned with big, round Jhumkas studded with stones..ending in the similar pearl drops as the Tikka. Her neck was bare. Her kohled eyes shone with happiness and excitement. Her bangles and anklets jingled and made that sweet noise. Her face had that characteristic "Khushi smile" and suddenly Payal nudged her. "Wake up sleeping beauty! Enough of dreaming! Your prince is going to arrive anytime now..." she chuckled. Making Khushi blush a little more. Payal sighed. Her sister looked more happy than she had looked all these years. If Arnav was the reason for such a beautiful smile...she prayed with all her heart for them to lead a very happy and prosperous life. Her baby sister would be married! Sigh! She smiled at her indulgently.
"Jiji? Why aren't you getting ready? I want Arnav and his whole family to see how pretty my jiji is!" Khushi stated, looking at payal in the mirror. "Khushi! They aren't coming for me! Why are you-" She was stopped by Khushi's glare. "Jiji? Why do you have to be a spoil sport every time? Chalo, get ready! I want everyone to look their best on such a special day..." Khushi said. "Okay boss." Payal laughed and went away to change. When Khushi's phone beeped...she stood up from her dressing table to lean against it..
Her phone read one unread message. She knew who it was even before opening it. "Ready?" the message read. "No." she typed and sent it..grinning to herself.
"What the-? WHY?" angry words stared back at her few seconds later. Laad governor. Cannot even complete his 'what the-' even while writing messages. She chuckled. "Because I am not ready to get engaged to you.'' Khushi typed and sent it. Now madly grinning. She knew it would irritate Arnav a lot. Arnav's next message read- "WHAT? Khushi. I don't like such jokes." She smiled. "but who said I was joking?" she replied. She knew she was pushing him too much now. So she decided to send a tongue sticking out smiley to him. Her phone didn't beep for another 10 minutes. She frowned. Did he feel bad? Should I apologize? She thought. But I was just kidding! "No. I will not say sorry. That laad governor needs to loosen up a bit. Hmmpphh." She huffed..staring at her phone..twirling it nervously with her fingers.
"Oh Yeah?"
Khushi jumped at his sudden voice. Flustered by his presence. "Y-you?" She stuttered.
"so, were you expecting someone else, and hence the sudden change of mind? Uh?" Arnav asked her. He was smiling his usual mocking smile which she didn't like one bit.
She crossed her hands and turned her face...giving him the full access to see her.
Arnav's breath caught. She was...beautiful. He was at a loss of words. She looked untouched. So pure. So wonderful. And to think she was his! His heart swelled with pride and love. Khushi saw his appreciating gaze in the mirror. She suddenly felt shy and bold at the same time. As if it was possible! Trust Arnav to make her feel conflicting emotions at the same time. She huffed again, drawing Arnav's gaze to her face. They stood facing the mirror. Their expressions fleeting but enough to make each other understand what the other felt.
Arnav took a step towards her, all the while maintaining eye contact with her in the mirror. He stopped just an inch away from her back. His body barely touching hers. Khushi's senses went into overdrive. His gaze intense.
"Khushi? Don't you want to marry me?" Arnav whispered. She was tongue tied. How did this man do this to her every time? In spite of being annoyed why did she always give in? And why was he asking her these stupid questions?
"y-y-yes" She stammered. Arnav gave his signature crooked smile. "The answer is not convincing enough sweetheart...if only, you'd not stutter and stammer and-" suddenly Khushi turned around to face him away from the mirror and snapped at him. Her eyes sparkling with annoyance. She looked more beautiful. How was it possible? thought Arnav.
"OH?! So my answer is not convincing enough for you?" She pushed him with her hands..making him take a step back in surprise and she took a step forward. "So you think I went through all this ordeal and everything for you because I didn't want to marry you?" She hissed..making him further retreat against the bed by pushing him. Arnav was amused by her sudden anger. He knew it was more because she was annoyed at herself for losing control over herself in his presence. He chuckled. Khushi managed to push him over the bed but he was smart. He pulled her with him. They landed on the bed, Khushi on top of him. And suddenly, both of them started giggling like teenagers.
"Ssshhh. Arnav..Arnav! amma and bauji! You haven't told anyone that you are in my room ...have you? What if they.." she trailed off as she felt Arnav's fingers lightly touching her ears and drawing patterns. His fingers making their way down her jhumka...he flicked that pearl with two of his fingers, making them swing against her long..slender neck. He looked too fascinated with that stupid piece of jewellery. Khushi tried to wriggle away when she felt his arms going around her to hold her closer. "A-Arnav! Bau ji..amma..what are you doing here by the way and WHY are you here and WHO let you in here...how did you even-" She hissed..only to be stopped by Arnav's look.
"You think anyone would have been able to stop me from seeing my would be wife?" He questioned her, looking into her eyes. She lowered her eyes, shying away. Arnav groaned. If this continues, none of them would be able to turn up at the Roka/shagun ceremony and they needed to do that, for now.
He sighed. Loosening his grip over her waist. She looked up at him, looking almost disappointed. He chuckled softly.
"We have forever with us Khushi...Let's get started to make way for that forever to come."
And Khushi smiled her brilliant smile at him. Arnav's day just started to seem complete.
