There are two things a HIV or AIDS patient goes through. First is the physiological effects such as side effects to meds, etc. You are right we cannot do much with it, unless you are there with the patient. The other aspect is the Psycological one. Just by knowing that there are people out there showing concern helps the person feel better about themselves (a self esteem issue). We who have been in health professions for years know that emotional healing is half the battle towards cure. The person may still die, however the way he feels when he dies is drastically changed by few words of support from the community. So let us all try to make the world a better place to live for people who are HIV positive or who have AIDS. Let us be aware that AIDS is NOT a homosexual disease, NOT a health care workers disease but a disease that any one could get. If they got it we could get it:-)

A day is attributed to AIDS to spread awareness about the disease. We could do the same any other day but an important day "coerces" us to do the requisite for that day. Just like holidays. We could eat and celebrate any day with the family but a Christmas or Diwali brings more joy and happiness when celebrated with family. If a day like December 1 "coerces" even one person to spread awareness and put an end to prejudice against AIDS then it will certainly help patients.

Today its World Aids Day,😊

My question is,what are we celebrating and who should celebrate?

I look at it in a positive light. I will not cut paste facts about AIDS, statistics and numbers, as I am tired right now.

1-What are we celebrating? 😕

Although AIDS has engulfed young and reproductive population of several developing countries at an alarming extent, in several other countries, AIDS has been successfully controlled from spreading further. Moreover, I think that these celebration / observation days bring positive energy to ONGOING efforts made towards

1) RESTRICTING the spread of AIDS,

2) achievments with regards to new Antiviral regimes / better drugs to treat the opportunistic infections/ disease that actually makes AIDS lethal,

3) cheaper and faster AIDS detection kits,

4) successful efforts of creating global awareness regarding causes of AIDS making its prevention easier than before,

5) Global scientific awareness as campaign against discrimination of AIDS patients by ther society,

6) RAISING FUNDS for research aimed at prevention / cure of AIDS.

2-Who should celebrate?😕
1) Those, who learnt about AIDS and passed on the information
2) Those, who are aiding in whatever success we have attained thus far..
3) Those, even in spite of being HIV positive, LOOK FWD TO LIVING..

3-How can those who are sitting on the rights of orphans celebrate world AIDS DAY? 😕

Life is hard and unfair to them, but they are not the only ones! I am extremely sympathetic towards them, yet knowing that nobody is celebrating and distributing sweets mocking the speculated deaths in devastatingly high numbers.., I believe that such WORLD DAYS can be taken positively.

My last world....STOP AIDS,KEEP THE PROMISE!......😊
