My thoughts on why there were ATBBs:
Ready: As we know, after Wanted and Dabangg, Salman Khan became a HUGE craze with the public in India, especially after Dabangg. So, when the audience saw Salman on screen in Ready, they loved it. One major thing is that in Ready, Salman did all of the things that people love about him: he played Prem who was trying to make relationships between family members become stronger throughout the film (similar type to Prem of HAHK type of films), he danced to super-hit songs (Character Dheela and the famous pocket dance of Dinka Chika). He did comedy (im sure the audience must have gone WILD when he pees on the haystack before interval!). He bashes up the baddies (similar to Wanted/Dabangg etc). Oh, and he also puts the glasses on the back of his shirt, a tribute to Dabangg, and I'm sure the public absolutely loved that too! Basically, the public liked the one-man-show of Salman Khan, the way he insulted people, beat them up, danced, did comedy, and made the relationships stronger between people in the film.
These things combined made Ready the most appreciated film of 2011!
Bodyguard: After the audience loved Wanted, Dabangg, and Ready so much, they LOVED Salman even more! So, in Bodyguard, when he enters near the beginning and beat up the baddies (especially the scene where he is still standing after a box going through him) and the Bodyguard title song biceps dance, must have got people in a frenzy! Then of course, there were the comedy scenes (more so in first half, especially with Tsunami), the songs (Teri Meri, Desi Beat, I Love you, title song, etc), the action scenes (very mass-appealing, especially when he takes his shirt off which is what the public loves), and the soft love story with a twist which appealed to people. Of course, though, the film did have a bit of criticism, especially for childish story. Overall, the WOM (word of mouth)for this film was good, but not as good as it was for Ready! The holiday factor also helped Bodyguard achieve ATBB status.
