PART 13

Arohi grabbed the two ends of her pencil and pressed it so hard that the wood gave way and Arohi got two smaller pencils, as a result. She threw them into her garbage can with such force that they missed the bin, and skidded across the floor to the other end of her cabin. Stomping her feet she went to her chair and flopped down on it. Nostrils flaring and chest heaving, she stared at a point on the floor with her lips moving speedily, muttering profanities under her breath for Mr Singhania.

'What the hell does he think of himself! He doesn't have time??? Like im a useless jobless person sitting over here, waiting for Mr Arjun Singhania to squeeze in a few precious minutes from his busy schedule so that he can grace me, this lowly being, with his pious presence!!! Bloody hell!!!'

His words from morning 'later Arohi… I don't have the time' rang back in her mind and she gritted her teeth. She had thought the entire night about how she was going to approach him and convince him for dinner next week. And Arjun had not only cut her off, but asked her if this was regarding work. And when she said NO, he threw that dialogue in her face and walked off.

Fine! So he was pissed off at her because of what she said to him at her house. But why was he being such a baby about it? Whatever she said was the truth… maybe she shouldn't have been so arrogant and rude, but he had pushed her to it. So technically it was HIS fault that she behaved so with him. And to top that, when she was willing to extend the olive branch to him, he was giving her attitude! If it was not her fathers order, Arohi would have cared a damn about Arjun and his busy schedule. But she had to count till 10 and cool herself down.

Buzzing the bell on her desk, Arohi picked out the files that she wanted updated. D entered the cabin and sat across her. Arohi held out the files to him. She frowned as she noticed that D was watching her with narrow eyes.

"What??!!!" Her exclaimation came a bit harsher than intended and Danish jumped in his seat. Taking the files from her, he got up to go to his desk.

"D…"

He stopped and turned at the low tone in Arohis voice. She was not looking at him but at her desk.

"Yes Arohi?"

"Do you… do you think Im a bad person?"

D's eyebrows jumped up in surprise. He sat back down, staring at his boss. "No I don't. in fact I think you're one of the nicest person I know."

"Do you think Im a mean person? Or a sadist?"

Danish looked at her and smiled. Arohi had the capacity to look like a hard tyrant one moment and like an innocent baby in the next.

"Honestly? No I don't. But there are times when I wish that you would consciously control your anger so that you wont do or say things that you would regret later."

Arohi looked at D and found his eyes looking fondly at her. She gave a small smile. No matter what, she could depend on him to tell her the truth. He had no idea what had happened or what she had done, yet his honest answer had shown her the mirror.

She had hurt Arjun.

No matter what had happened six years ago, she had no right to say what she said to him. He had made a mistake and she had slapped him for it. So technically their grudge was null and void. Despite of getting slapped by her, Arjun had swallowed his pride and apologised. If nothing else, then she should extend the same courtesy to him.

Arohi remembered the look Arjun had given her when she had asked him to leave. Now when she thought back, she knew it was of hurt and pain, not anger. She was not a mean person and that was the reason why this incident was niggling her soul. Now all she had to do was control her anger till she spoke to him and genuinely apologised for her behaviour.

Arjuns cabin…

"Now your nickname suits you very well… Nats!!!" Arjun stared blankly at his secretary while she crossed her hands under her chest and tapped her feet.

"Arjun…"

"Don't you Arjun me Natasha! If the load of work is taking a toll on your nerves then please let me know. I love you and I will give you time off to take control of yourself. Lekin please… aisi behki behki baatein mat karo!"

Natasha huffed like an impatient adult trying to reason with a stubborn child. "Arjun… mein behki behki baatein nahi karrahi. Wohi keh rahi hu jo mujhe dhondu ne bataya."

"Dhondu? Who the hell is dhondu???" Arjun frowned. Was Natasha really going nuts??!!

"Uffo… Dhondu matlab D… Danish. Usska pet name Dhondu hai. Seriously Arjun, I found that out in 2 days, but you could not do that in months." Natasha rolled her eyes and Arjuns frown deepened.

"Achha! Kya kaha tumhare uss… Dhondu ne??? That Arohi is in love with me???" One eyebrow was raised in typical Arjun style.

"Shut up Arjun! He said that he expected Arohi to react in a much more worse manner. But if she hasn't then it means that something is going on in her mind."

"So YOU told him about what happened at the party? No wonder hes giving me, angry 'Arohi glares' since morning." Arjun replied thoughtfully. "And what does he mean by much… more… worse??? D did not see the imprint of her fingers on my cheek. Usse worse kya hosakta hai!"

"He meant that she has let you off easily. So either shes planning your death or she wants to hurt you and maim you for life. But I feel that Arohi is too flabbergasted to react because the kiss has affected her."

Arjuns frown vanished and a mix of emotions appeared. Murder? Maim for life? Affected by the kiss???

"I think amongst all this handicapping me for life sounded more like Arohi. She cant kill me coz im a family friend. And she cant be affected by the kiss because your brain is affected by those stupid shows that you watch!!! This is real life Natasha. Me and Arohi are not some hero and heroine of your romantic shows where they first hate each other and then fall in love, ok? You need to start watching CID or Savdhan India or CSI and investigate how Arohi is planning to maim me for life!!! That will prove you are a good friend."

Arjun faked a smile and Natasha let out a small laugh. "Is it? Ok. Lets consider that Arohi is not affected by that kiss. But what about you? I know for sure that it has affected you… a lot!"

Arjuns lips dropped down and his face turned pale. He remembered his dream about kissing Arohi from the other night and his heartbeat paced up. There was no point in denying that he was not affected by that kiss… not just affected but traumatised! But he could not accept that, and regarding Nats, he did not need to. She already knew. The all knowing smirk on her face told him so.

"Yes it has! It was just a kiss Nats. Im actually more affected by my actions than the kiss itself. And we were talking about Arohi here… so don't turn this around on me."

Arjun shook off the topic hastily and picked up a nearby file burying his face in it, dismissing Nats by his actions. Natasha shook her head at Arjuns childish display of tantrums. Maybe he needed more time to confront his feelings, but she had to let him know that she knew and she will always be with him.

"You know Arohi much better than I do Arjun. Think about what I said. And when you feel you are ready to talk about this, let me know, I will be all ears. But till then, remember, I will be watching both of you."

Arjun stiffened but kept his eyes stubbornly on the contents in the file. He shut the useless document after Natasha walked out of the cabin and slammed the door behind her.

Great! Now he had that phoolan devi breathing down his neck, Dhondu giving him death glares and Natasha watching him with hawk eyes. He felt like he was some 'abla-naari bahu' of a saas bahu show who was being tortured by her in-laws. If only he could work out of his office and avoid all these potential threats to his mental peace!

But he knew that it will not help! Arohis thoughts and his dream would not let him live in peace… no matter where he was. Even after what had happened last night, Arjun could not bring himself to hate Arohi as much as he hated her before. Her professionalism and a taste of her lips had softened his stand towards her. And now knowing, or probably guessing, that even she was not as unaffected as she showed, made him all the more anxious to talk to her.

Do I ruin your tea time chaat rendezvous'???"

Arjun remembered her words from last night which he had ignored. It was a completely unnecessary mention made by her. Was she jealous? Was Nats right? Now, he just HAD TO find out! And maybe, he knew how to do it.

Arjun smiled his devil smile as he chalked out a plan in his head to check on Arohis reaction to him.

Arohis cabin…

"Arjun…" Arohi stood in the middle of the cabin and spoke with softness in her voice.

"Arjun… I wanted to apologise for my behaviour yesterday. I realise that I should not have said what I said. I was just too disturbed with work and…"

Arohi grunted in frustration. "No no… that will make him feel Im giving excuses for my behaviour…" She almost screamed out to the empty room.

Composing her face and feelings, Arohi straightened her navy blue knee length skirt and closed her eyes. Opening them, she forced warmth in her gaze and started from scratch.

"Arjun… I wanted to apologise for my behaviour yesterday. I realise that I should not have said what I said. You were a guest in my house and it was very impolite of me. So please forgive me. I would actually like it if you could come to dinner to my place next week."

Arohi closed her eyes, threw her head back and cried. "This will make him feel that Im offering a compensation. Dammit! Why is… this so… difficult???"

Composing herself for the nth time, Arohi took a deep breath and started again.

"Arjun… I wanted to apologise for my…"

A sharp knock on the door made Arohi jump out of her skin. Keeping a hand on her thudding heart, she yelled 'come in'.

As soon as she saw the door open and Arjun walk in, she straightened herself and grabbed a book off her desk, pretending to be busy reading it.

"Hi…" Arjuns small hi made Arohi gulp. He closed the door behind him and came to stand in front of her.

"Hi… Kuch… kuch kaam tha?"

Arjuns eyebrows furrowed. "No. You said you wanted to talk to me?"

"Oh yes." Arohis face cleared up and she turned around to place the book back on her bookshelf. She came back to her desk. "Please sit down."

Arjun shoved his hands in his pant pockets. "No. I am fine. So what is it?"

Arohi took in a deep breath seeing his rigid stand. He did not look angry anymore but his body language made him unapproachable. Well tough luck! She had to do it now.

"Arjun… I wanted to apologise for my behaviour yesterday. I realise that I should not have said what I said. You were a guest in my house and it was very impolite of me. So please forgive me. I would actually like it if you could come to…"

"So you want my forgiveness?" Arjun cut her in between, throwing Arohi completely off guard. Sudden anger rushed through her because Arohi Ahluwalia was not used to people cutting her off in her speech. She reminded herself about her fathers orders and gulped her rage.

"Yes I do. I hope you can forgive me." Arohi told him genuinely.

Arjun stared at her. He could see her slowly squirming under his sharp gaze. Miss Ahluwalia was not used to being scrutinised, was she? Too bad for her, that he liked making his enemies squirm.

"I can forgive you actually. Not because you are apologising but because of Sudhir uncle. I have too much respect for him to hold a grudge against his daughter. But…"

Arohi had almost exhaled in satisfaction when Arjuns 'but' stopped her. And the real businesswoman Arohi started rearing her head now. "When you had apologised I had accepted it decently. I think you should do the same for me."

"Yes I should… but I wont. Because… at that time we both had something to apologise for. But now, without me doing anything, you've insulted me. So I don't think you're in a position to tell me what I should or should not do." Arjun smiled at her and Arohis heart stopped and started beating fast at the same time.

Without doing anything??? He had… he had… what exactly had he done? Had chaat in his cabin? Smiled at shanti? Laughed with his secretary? Technically, he had not done anything wrong, yet he had angered Arohi. But she could not give that reason for insulting him! Arjun had the upper hand over here and she had no choice but to listen to him.

"Agreed. So what will it take for you to accept my apology?" Arohi crossed her arms under her chest and waited.

Instead of answering Arjun slowly walked towards her with his smile intact. Arohis breath paced up and she stared in his mischeivious eyes. Her arms loosened and fell against her side. She looked like a confused vulnerable child to him. Maybe Nats was not completely wrong. Miss Ahluwalia was actually affected by him. He stopped a hairs breath away from her and leaned forward. On an instinct, Arohis upper body leaned an inch behind.

"Arohi…" Arjuns warm breath washed her face and she blinked rapidly in confusion. He was standing much too close for comfort and she knew she should step back. But her feet were concreted into the ground by his penetrating gaze.

"Arohi… I will accept your apology… on one condition…"

Arohi waited… her entire being concentrating on Arjuns husky voice.

"If you give me… just one… one sweet…"

Arohis heart started thudding under her chest so fast that even Arjun could hear it. Arohi stared at him, waiting for him to continue.

"I just want you to give me… one sweet smile."

Arjuns condition is inspired and shamelessly copied from KMH1 when Arohi asks Arjun to do that... and from KMH2 when Arjun is driving Arohi and a drunk cheeku home... i just love those scenes ☺️ ❤️ 🤗
