Lakshman Rekha - according to Ramayana, this line was drawn by Lakshman to protect Seeta.
Ravan tricked her into crossing this Rekha and thus kidnapped her.
Since then Lakshman Rekha refers to the line of social, moral and ethical behavior that must not be crossed.
Crossing the Lakshman Rekha means to do something immoral and/or unethical.
Shyam and Arnav both are men who do not care about the social rules and have defined their own.
So Lakshman Rekha as drawn by the society has no meaning for them, they have their own Rekha , and live by their own rules.
But this is where the similarity ends.
Let us look at how they both have defined their own rekhas.
1. Lakshman Rekha 1 - After marriage be faithful to your wife
Shyam was married but was not faithful to Anjali
Arnav was not really married to Khushi, but never looked at any other woman, after he met Khushi
2. Lakshman Rekha 2 - do not covet a married woman - Shyam never left Khushi alone even after she married Arnav
Even though in the eyes of the world Arnav was khushis husband, and sharing her room and bed, he never even tried to establish a physical relationship with her, as he believed that she loved another man.
3. Lakshman Rekha 3. - a man must provide for his family - Shyam had no qualms about living off his wife
Arnav took it to the other extreme and provided for anybody who came even loosely under the definition of family
4. Lakshman Rekha 4 - a man must protect his children above all
Shyam - we know about that snake, don't we
Arnav - to protect his Di's nanhi Khushi first and then to protect aarav, Arnav did far more than what he needed to
5. Lakshman Rekha 5 - never be ungrateful - Shyam was always planning to bite the very hands that fed him, Arnav on the other hand always repayed every kindness and looked out for those that helped him
Shyam and Arnav to me, are two men who are just opposite of each other - what one is on the inside, the other is on the outside, and vice versa.
