Since this is a Stelena post...I'll start with Stef .Stefan being a hypocrite is laughable.Stefan isn't trying to HIDE his dark side.He knows it exists & he is trying to dilute it,because unfortunately he can't do away with it because of his past.
Damon has accepted his nature,has embraced it.And call me biased...but IMO there is nothing wrong in it.He IS a vampire,he is supposed to be this way,all vampires are.So him killing people & draining their blood isnt the best thing in the world,but you can't blame him for it or call him bad because of it.Just like you cant blame a tiger for killing the rabbit who did it no harm.It's the basic instinct of vampires.
Stefan is A different case.He isn't the unrealistically goody goody holier than thou Edward Cullen.When you become a vampire,your basic traits get magnified.Stefan brought his COMPASSION with him into his new life.Everytime he killed,it killed him,so he turned it off.Let himself be free of the guilt and became the Ripper.Can we blame HIM?The girl he thought he "loved" had changed him into a monster,the brother he loved hated him,the remorse that he himself was the reason for this hatred ate away at him.And then there was the additional pain everytime he tried to sustain himself.So he turns it off.Then it all comes crashing down & he decides to fight himself,bear the pain because he had his compassion along with his bloodlust.And he does an amazing job.But he is keeping himself away from something which he desperately needs.Just one drop of it, and the bloodlust consumes him.It's not something he can control.
Damon does love Elena.That isn't something to be questioned..Passionately & obsessively(Damn I wanna shake him so bad for it).And I know DE fans are gonna hate me for this but...it is bad for him.It is the one thing which causes him the most amount of pain in his life.It is UNHEALTHY for him.Only & only MY opinion...Damon is selfish.Only in his love for Elena.There is Stefan,who's one cry at the hands of enemies can make him forget that he has to "hate" this person & makes him do anything & everything for him.There is Alaric...whose hurt voice can get a genuine sorry out of him.There is Bonnie(What????I'm allowed to have my bias too:p)who got two genuinely real thank yous out of him(ironically it was Damon & not even Stefan who was actually the first person to have actually thanked Bonnie for what she did for the MF gang.The fact that he killed her mother later on is just an eg of what I'm going to touch upon)And not to forget Rose...who got him to actually cry at her death.These people...they have/still do bring out his humanity,the good inside him.His love for Elena on the other hand...it makes him blind,reckless,he kills,ruthlessly & without any qualms.Elena is not the one who brings out his goodness.Elena is the one who tries to change him."You can't be this Damon...not around ME","I don't want you to be what others think you are"(Note the 'I').I'll come out clean...I really don't care wh ether or not Elena laps up his attention b ecause I really have nothing to say about this girl anymore.DE is bad for DAMON,it causes him heartbreak beyond what he should experience and it brings out the worst in him.Petrovas screw him up.Period!!!
Stelena on the other hand...well it helps Stefan.Despite the fact that she has often treated him like shit(often...NOT always) & breaks his heart too,being near her makes him more determined than ever to be better.Which was seen when he fought against an Original's compulsion only to stop himself from harming her.Elena does need safety & stability in her life after everything she has been through & also because that IS what she has been looking for,whch is what i think she'll realise herself after the sire bond is broken which IS affecting her actions as said by JP herself.Plus...One of the only times Elena is bearable after S1 is when with Stefan🤣🤣
About the better brother debate...both of them have done a lot for each other and will continue to do so in the future despite whatever tiffs they have,just like Bekah said.Would have loved to say a lot more on this.But am way too sleepy right now😆because the Salvatores are way too amazing for 3 lines.Damon is my heartbeat & I love Stefan to the core<3<3<3<3
