The Khans, Ajay Devgan and Akshay Kumar have been around since late 80s/90s and ruled the box office, won over fans' hearts and captured imagination of nation & its media for over 2 decades now.

How long can these stars last in top rung? 2014-2015?Longer?

I invite members to give their views till what probable years they believe the 90s stars will be on top of the heap and continue to be a force to reckon with in terms of BO, popularity and craze/respect? Till how long can each of them draw crowds to theatres? Which star(s) will last longer as top draws? Which star(s) will begin to fizzle sooner? Whose career strategy (as a star) seems to be the best (in terms of sustaining top draw status)?

*Please share thoughts about others Akki and Ajay also in your responses, not just Khans. Avoid fan wars. Thanks.

As long as people would like to see them 🥱 when the khans debuted in the 90s they gave the seniors run for their money ! I cant see any of the youngsters doing it yet🤔 ranbir is getting media praise but BO is still ruled by SRK,aamir or salman and ppl would see his movies over theirs anyday ! This was not the case with the khans ! Salman and aamir's debut films as male leads beat the films of the seniors ! SRK's baazigar,darr did the same ! Except sunny no other senior star could survive against then 😆

akki and ajay were not BO kings in the 90s...akki become a superstar in the mid 2000s and ajay become in the late 2000s..they struggled their way in to bolly and would be part of bolly for a long time!!! bt lyk sunny anil sanju dey mi8 fade due to their age as they wont able fit into many roles...bt the prb is that other than hrithik and ranbir in the younger breed their is no 1 who can come evn close to khanz popularity!!! and fan base

Salman Khan: I don't know how long he can sustain on basis of masala movies with no script. I guess he'll keep giving record openings till next year or so but I don't think he can last longer if he doesn't change a bit.

Ajay Devgan: His mindless masala fare can get him hits for few years only. If his films have slightly more brains like Singham then he can do better. But if he remains in SOS mode he'll fizzle out in 2 years flat and will have to return to serious movies.

Akshay Kumar: No one has had as many ups and downs as him. Such an unpredictable star! Can't tell which year he'll give hits & when he'll suddenly flop. I think he'll keep working the longest of all 90s stars even if he's kicked by audience.

Aamir Khan: He'll be on top after D3 & PK. I think he'll leave it at top (as he did after 3I) and take breaks or return mainly as producer/director. I doubt if he'll ever take up acting in mainstream films again or give hits after more breaks. But it's Aamir & he's managed remarkable success in past and does good content films so he may even surprise at later age provided he does want to continue acting.

SRK: His state is already clear. He's already slipped to #2 or #3 position. I don't think he can remain in top 3 beyond mid-2010s if he continues doing the kind of movies he does. I doubt if he can give record-shattering hits anymore and rise above his plateau. But he'll forever remain popular due to his involvement in several areas (business, IPL etc). Frankly he seems to be addicted to stardom and I think he'll keep pretending he's king forever even if it's just media hype and ground reality is otherwise.

@DB_reloaded

I know about Ajay & Akshay but I'm discussing taking their current top draw status into account.

@naughty_boy

Agree with all your points. Just wanted to read predictions really.

Rest depends on how long audience wants to see them. We should compare them to DK-Dev-RK age or Bachchan-Kaka-Dharam age than the Sunny Deol one. They are ageing and after hitting 50 it's not easy to continue as top draw. So just wanted to discuss probabilities.

No new star overshadowed them but Hrithik manages to overshadow (and at least equate to) them whenever he attempts commercial cinema. Ranbir slowly making in-roads (currently his credibility stock is rising higher). How long will 90s guys manage to keep their Old Boys' stronghold intact?

Well i think salman might take the rajnikant route and continue doing mindless actions ! I am not sure abt SRK ,JTHJ has proved that he cant pretend to be a 25 yr old and romance young chicks any more ,BO is ruled by salman and awards by ranbir ! he is losing his touch

@Naughty_boy

Rajinikanth route is not much feasible or easy in case of Bollywood. No matter how youthful an actor manages to look, after a certain age he's not accepted romancing young girls or playing 30 year old beating the shit out of villains. It'll be miracle if he manages to pull it off and doesn't become a caricature the way Dharmendra became in stupid films like Tehelka.

I get curious wondering if 90s guys will be in top draw discussions even till 2020? I wonder what their fate will be after mid-2010s.

I would have to say it's until people want to see them. Once people stop wanting to see their movies, they won't be around any longer.
