Episode 164 Discussion - EOD Summary

What it means to leave behind - the apprehensions and the happiness visible over the horizon
Events of the Episode
  1. Sapno ka aashiyana - RK and Madhu both being apprehensive of how they can leave everything behind, every rishta (relationship) behind and if they would be able to do so. And wherever they go, if they can set up and find same happiness as now present with them. Not knowing about the future, RK just decides to take Madhu to their future "Aashiana." RK shows Madhu the plot that he bought for themselves to live the non-Superstar's life. He describes the dream house per his imagination. It is all RK's dreams nevertheless with Madhu's approval and Madhu's allowance to the point of what he has to keep with him always...his father's rocking chair, not allowing him to forget his roots. This moves Rishabh Kundra so much, that all his funny banter of the dream house with which he was trying to please his Biwi, in all his honesty is negated. Nothing remains real except for him, his Biwi's understanding of him in that empty space, plot and now suddenly filled with hope for their future together filled with love and understanding.
  2. Atit tyagna -Padmini's Visarjan of her symbols from first marriage. It had to be Madhu to tell the mother to remove the symbols. Worn for 22 years, everyday without fail and never having questioned anything about it and the returns it gave to her, Padmini was nervous about the removal. Encouraged by her daughter, the understanding and sensible mother and woman, removes mangalsootra and sindhoor. Padmini feels happy and lighter for removing the symbols, with all the dead weight removed and her flowing tears at the joy expressing that she took so many years to do it .
  3. Trishna -Balraj Scene. They left us in limbo there. We do not know what's gonna happen until tomorrow. Scary it was...

Did anyone else notice - in the precap - the spilled liquid on the ground right in front of Balraj as he creeps upon Madhu with the broken glass?😳
So is this to be the sort of situation where any attempt he makes to harm her will rebound on him by fate's might?šŸ˜•šŸ˜Š

RK-Madhu: Finally they found a common language and common interests! A nice, warm hug at the end!

Poor Trishna.

Can someone explain to me the custom / ritual when removing the Mangalsutra. It seems to me, she was born again.
I'm going now, I'll be absent for several hours.

In the end:

Hamari chahaton ka ghar, hamari hasaraton ka ghar
Yeh ghar bohot hasin hai (ya hoga)!!

Ek yeh ghriha pravesh, ek woh pehle wala. Kitna farak hai na dono mein. Muze yeh wala hi bohot achha laga.

RK and Madhu apne sapanon ka ghar dekh rahein hein. Abhi sirf foundation banaya hai, lekin is per ghar bananeki ummid rakhte hein. Apni aane wali bhavi zindagi ke bare mein soch rahen hai. How sweet. That is what a newly married couple should do. Draw the map of heir future life ogether!!.

Bhai hum bhi chahate hein ki aap woh Bhatia group of badmash company ki sangati se door apna khud ka ek chhotasa ghonsla banaye.

Quite a romantic scene. I am sorry I feel bit awkward to gush anymore about it.
A hugely important incident because RK is involving Madhu in their future life planning without her prompting. He is planning his family with her. During the scene Madhu asks him ki papa ki rocking chair kahan rakhenge? He is taken aback. It is almost as if he has forgotten about it. Maybe he does not need it. That is not his security blanket anymore. He is touched by her sensitivity. I guess in that hug scene he closes his eyes for the fear that tears may start flowing. Very nice Madhu. Always thinking of him, his comfort first.

Abhi dekhna yeh hai ki Madhu wapis RK mansion jane ke baad yeh Radha ko bolti hai ya secret rakhti hai. Aap ko kya lagta hai?

Another important scene - Padmini removing her mangalsutra and washing away her sindoor at Madhu's insistance. It is as if she is shedding the old skin to make way for the new one to grow into. Very symbolic and done well. She is scared initially not knowing why she feels so. Understandable since emotionally she is still attached to her life with that maniac. Those scars run deep and not easy to heal. It was a brave step that she took to drown the mangalsutra. Sindoor which was more like kalank in her maang was also washed away and she is now pure, clean, serene to welcome the new life.

Ballu-Trishna meeting was covered only for few minutes with Trishna yet again refusing to do his film . Ballu was trying to intimidate Trishna in his own coarse way. That was left vague today.

Precap - The maniac Ballu with a broken glass in his hand is standing behind Madhu who is talking on the phone. Looks like he wants to smash it on her head.

I have not seen the latest episode yet but would like to continue discussion from last post by Shri on yesterday's thread since it is a really interesting issue...
"If Pyaar (love) was equivalent to Devotion, then I did mention earlier devotion and it being punctured and tested time and again, because it has to be in principle. Why still then pose the question of why Madhu loves RK or why being upset that RK chose to test Madhu...because...is it really possible to marry ur God? No. For in marriage even the man needs more than just submission. So unless Madhu is the Goddess herself, Madhu cannot marry Rishabh the God.

I am reserving my own thoughts for now. After MU track and few romance sessions, let's figure out what Madhu actually feels for RK. Coz as a woman to man, she needs to develop without which their marriage will not be successful.

Look at Padmini, she looks human and woman in every manner. Not so Madhu. She appears quite unresolved and immature. My focus in coming days, once VD comes back from vacation, will be watching Madhu's love as well...as I expected a marriage first as I was thinking love and passion will be developed/professed/confessed later. CVs broke that order.

My another problem with Madhu is where is the line that she draws when to submit him and when to lecture him. For ex: now take her pushing him to reconcile with his mother. Would you coax your God to do something like that "

To me... Madhu is completely immature...she has been protected her life and she seems to have this idealistic mindset where she seems to aspire to a perfect love/family etc...or as close as she can get to to achieving it.
If you see the first few episodes...it was obvious to me that Mukund was smitten by her beauty so much so that he fast forwarded to a confession and proposal. He knew very little about Madhu to fall in love with her . What he called love was infatuation. But what had struck so odd to me at that point is how quickly Madhu agreed to his proposal...there was very little Madhu knew about Mukund...but she seemed to be delighted at the thought of being in love and being loved by someone so much that she ignored all the practical and other considerations. If she would have married Mukund...she would have ended up completely disillusioned and cynical eventually. RK...who is extremely smart and good at reading people saw the mismatch in feelings...hence his question to Madhu on bridge asking if she loved Mukund. What is noticable is that Madhu is taken aback and then instead of answering the question...she retorts by saying that is for Mukund to ask and her to know...RK has no right. Somewhere in her heart, she knew that what she felt for Mukund was not love. Later Mukund ditches her (infatuation could not win over practical considerations) but Madhu is not heartbroken (she was never in love truly but in llove with the idea of being in love).
Now coming back to RK and Madhu. They have both been attracted to each other right from the start even if it was under the guise of hatred. Even when Madhu had not interacted with RK, she dreamt of dancing with him. Madhu has been on RK's mind ever since he saw her for whatever reasons. When Madhu asks why he wants to marry her...he states that he feels that thier destinies are intertwined and he wants to explore this unknown bond between them.
As time proceeds ...Madhu begins to see the person behind the mask of RK. She also realizes that in case of RK...his bark is worst than his bite. He has a complicated broken past and while he pretends to rebel against all tradition and goodness ...he does know the difference between right and wrong. To quote some examples
1)Madhu is never fearful that RK will try to harm her bodily or rape her
2) In the party she actually dances with immense passion and actually seems to enjoy that RK is smitten by her. She seems confused momentarily when RK starts to insult her.
3)She is touched when he saves her after the dance and tends to her wounds
4)At hospital she tells him that she gave him blood because he would have done the same for her.
What she feels after the Ganpati incident is a sense of pity, guilt, concern of a reluctant wife tied by traditions combined with attraction. She also knows that RK is not that bad so she probably feels that she can make this marraige work after all and get back her perfect marraige dream. It is not love but more like friendship and respect.
After RK saves Shamsher and protects her...what Madhu feels is pride, thankfulness and reverence. He is beginning to fit in her image of perfect husband. With RK mellowed down...the attraction also starts to take front seat which leads to pareshan...pareshan scenario. In my mind she keeps pushing RK towards Radha or tends to ignore the underlying emotional currents because in her simplicity she is still striving for that perfect love, family and marraige. The couple would have explored thier feelings with time and fell in lasting love but circumstances forced the confession and they missed the introspection and exploration stage and moved on to passion and yearning stage. Rk is more experienced and is committed to the relationship...he knows what he loves about her, understands her and is ready to go the extra mile but what about Madhu? Does she know RK...Is she ready to go the extra mile even though if might mean hurting her loved ones?
Her ambiguous behavior is the result of jumble of feelings and expectations she has from her relationship with RK . She does not know whether to revere him, be impressed by his insights (her unquestioning submission) or strive for that perfect marraige (when she lectures him with righteous superiority). As she realizes that all relationships are imperfect and RK is not infallible... she will hopefully have more balanced reactions and slip into the role of a partner.

The episode started seriously and ended seriously. And overall it was an emotional episode. Will give an A.

The highlights of Leaving behind
RK and Madhu's Sapno ka Ghar and members of that Aashiana.
RK and Madhu both being apprehensive of how they can leave everything behind, every rishta (relationship) behind and if they would be able to do so. And wherever they go, if they can set up and find same happiness as now present with them. Not knowing about the future, RK just decides to take Madhu to their future "Aashiana"
It is all RK's dreams nevertheless with Madhu's approval and Madhu's allowance to the point of what he has to keep with him always...his father's rocking chair, not allowing him to forget his roots. šŸ‘ His Mom is a Bhatia and so no need for her to be part of the Kundra Household. She needs to maintain her Bhatia household, so how can she join them ?Very covertly and neatly explained to viewers there šŸ‘ And very implicitly shown by Madhu. Gosh! for the first time Madhu sounded so supremely intelligent...so much that even Rishabh Kundra had tears in his eyes. And this time Madhu's smile was so much more confident as if she knew what she has to do for her husband and herself.

Padmini's Visarjan of her symbols from first marriage
It had to be Madhu to tell the mother to remove the symbols. Is it really such a big deal to remove ? Is it blown out of the proportion on TV? I don't know. I had put them aside as soon as I decided to end the marriage. It was easy enough. Removed the mangalsutra, the bangles and the toe-rings. Simple enough. No one asked me to do it. I did by myself and my eyes were resolute enough and my loved ones understanding enough to even talk about it or comment on it. It was tacit understanding.
But, if worn for 22 years, everyday without fail and never having questioned anything about it and the returns it gave to her, Padmini, sure would feel nervous about the whole feeling. But encouraged by the daughter, the understanding and sensible mother and woman, removed the two symbols.

Well she threw away the mangalsutra...at real...since it is a gold one, people would have kept it aside to be sold/tudwaana. But here on TV...visarjan made sense. 😊 I liked the scene leaving the dramatics...very meaningful because Padmini felt happy and lighter for removing the symbols, with all the dead weight removed and her flowing tears at the joy expressed that she took so many years to do it šŸ‘. That is very much a real feeling. I can vouch for that. šŸ‘šŸ¼

Trishna -Balraj Scene
They left us in limbo there. We do not know what's gonna happen until tomorrow. Scary it was...

Precap - Madhu-Balraj Scene in RK Mansion
How come Balraj is able to aim strike on Madhu with that broken glass in RK Mansion.
Intezaar karna padegaa kal tak (Have to wait until tomorrow).

And now the fun part -RK's dream house description. šŸ˜†
Zameen se rishta rakhta hua, kaleen bicha hua farsh with No Sofe
Badi Badi beparda khidkian, jo sooraj aur baarish ka swagat karenge. Seems there won't be any neighbours around. Is it possible ?
meri junglee billee ko rasoighar mein khana banate hue main dekhta hua Painting banaoonga
Ghee tail aur mirchi mein bana hua khana...din mein teen baar...no salad and no diet food. No karela!!
A place for Champi as well!
A spartan bedroom with just the bed with no pillows ki deewar...bare walls with no pics and photoframes.
One projector screen to see only one movie Mr.India with no sad ending to be shown to children. Can it get any more boring ?
Three children...two girls with her beauty and his attitude...jo duniya ki band bajaaye. One boy...a lil bit spoilt brat is allowed for him...but he has to be responsible. He wants them to fight so that they can love each other.

And Madhu approves the Dream house with her signature smile and hug that she likes the "Hamaari Choti si Cute si Duniya"

The best character of the three good actors and characters from MEIEJ - Madhubala
Three characters and actors - RK, Madhu and Padmini. The three were equally good.
However, the best one was Madhubala. For the first time, she came across as the WISEST of all for such a young woman as she is.
From beginning to ending, she was wise. She understood the fears of setting up a new house, what they could take and what they have to leave behind. I was so marvelled at Madhu's thought, how she distinguished between Mohan Kundra and Radha Bhatia. And how she provisioned a place for Mohan Kundra her dead Sasurjee and did not make the place for her living Saasuma as she is no more a Kundra and that she has her own household to run. Neat and Clean.
And the other wise thing was how she enouraged her mom to remove her dead weights on her when she is ushering new life.

Best Emotional Moments
Rocking Chair in the living room where you would be painting...
Madhu, all these days never ever spoke of his father. But that he was there in her thoughts moved Rishabh Kundra so much. That one moment negated all his funny banter of the dream house with which he was trying to please his Biwi, with all his honesty. Nothing remained real except him, his Biwi's understanding of him in that empty space and now suddenly filled with hope.

The other one was ofcourse Padmini's happy tears. 😊

A respite...

Leela,
Did you like it that Madhu did not make any place for Radha Bhatia in her new home with her hubby which is now all in all a Kundra house with the Mohan Kundra's rocking chair symbolizing the ancient heritage of Rishabh Kundra her husband in their new home ?

Two major scenes today...

Rishbala scene and removal of mangalsutra by Paddy.

@marathimulgi (nice name, reminds me of my home town, Mumbai) - It's ok, don't blush😳. I loved the romantic scene too. So typical of a newly married couple, dreams unlimited, rosy future. And I loved DVD enacting it, her expressions matching his dialogues and towards the end, her perceptive understanding of his fears.
What struck me about the scene :
  • RK's immense insecurity, at the back of his mind, he is always concerned that she may back off, this time he knows it's not because she does'nt love him enough but because her love for her family, her strong ties may make it diificult for her to leave
  • Madhu's understanding of the intense desire he has to live his anonymous life, the dreams he's woven around their life, dreams that are similar to hers
  • When he asks her if their house wil ever match up to what he's dreaming about, without skipping a beat, she answers his question and his deepest fears ...

I loved the scene...loved the hug😳

Second important scene--Madhu asks Paddy to let go of her past, her previous marriage, the symbols of which she has held on to for 20 years. And in another beautifully enacted scene, madhu helps her mother shed all the remaining vestiges of her marriage with Balraj...she unties the mangalsutra for her. Paddy removes her sindoor, washes it away. And falls into Madhu's arms in relief. Roles were reversed, paddy seemed like the child and Madhu seemed like her mother figure, supporting her, encouraging her, and holding her to comfort her.

Trishna goes to meet Balraj and he 's eating an apple, tries to psyche her with it, now knowing fully well the efffect he can have on her. This scene was rather abrupt, with no ending to it, probably will continue tomorrow.

Zorica - Mangalsutra is one of the symbols of marriage, almost all the states of India have some form of the mangalsutra..black beads or gold chain. At the time of marriage, the groom puts it on his bride. And generally, the wife does'nt remove it at all, through her life. It is removed only when the husband passes away. (These days, this is not followed through as strictly by the young generation. Though my mother, my aunts still wear it daily)

The sindoor, that Paddy removes from parting is another symbol of a married woman, again it is washed off only on the death of the husband.
