Barun Sobti returns with a murder mystery on Prime Video; Babita Singh Reporting's release date announced

Barun Sobti is set to return to the screen with a story that blends crime, personal conflict and an emotional journey. Prime Video has announced August 28 as the premiere date for Babita Singh Reporting, an investigative drama that brings together Nimisha Sajayan, Barun Sobti and Anshumaan Pushkar. The Prime Original will stream in Hindi with English subtitles across India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Barun Sobti joins Nimisha Sajayan in a layered crime drama

Directed by Ambiecka Pandit and written by Amita Vyas, Babita Singh Reporting is set in a small Indian town and revolves around Babita, fondly called Baby, a suspended police officer played by Nimisha Sajayan. Unlike the stereotypical tough cop often seen in crime dramas, Baby is described as someone who has spent much of her life adjusting to other people and seeking their approval.

Her world changes after the murder of a childhood friend. Determined to find out what really happened, she begins investigating the case, only to find herself confronting uncomfortable truths about her own life along the way.

Barun Sobti and Anshumaan Pushkar play pivotal characters in this world, adding further layers to the investigation and the people surrounding Baby. The film promises to keep its crime narrative closely tied to its characters, relationships and emotional conflicts.

A new outing

For Barun Sobti, the project also marks another association with Prime Video after his work in Paatal Lok. With its darker setting and character-driven narrative, Babita Singh Reporting gives the actor another opportunity to explore a layered part within an ensemble rather than simply playing a conventional hero.

The film is produced by Saurabh Malhotra, Manuj Mittra and Tina Tharwani under Film Squad Productions in association with Act Three. Sudip Sharma serves as executive producer, bringing together a creative team known for grounded and emotionally driven storytelling.

The film premieres on Prime Video on August 28, giving fans a fresh glimpse of Barun Sobti in a world filled with secrets, grief and difficult choices.
